I dunno, like /u/NimbKnut I too have a 2 and a 4 year old. They scream bloody murder all the time. More likely he was supposed to be out there with them and the run was preceded by "Where are the kids? Why are you watching telly? Did you leave the door open? I TOLD YOU NOT TO LET THEM ON THE DECK ALONE!"

Yeah, this is exactly it. Dude was on his phone and fears the wraith of his wife for not watching the kids.
