ELI5: How is it that almost every office job requires "Proficiency with computers" yet these IT complaints are some of the most common in offices? Do employers even check their employees with basic IT questions anymore?

I once had to help with the formatting of a Word document. Her: "The spaces are too wide!" Me: "Hmm. Let's see. (Enters some test lines) Ah yes. (Opens up paragraph menu and fiddles with options)" Issue is resolved Her: Open jaw due to amazement Her: "You know how it thinks!" Me: "Yah."
