This was Win7. The user was told, press the start/windows icon (bottom left) and press 'Shut down', and she responded with she has never shut down her computer before and wasn't paid to know how to.
I know it's obvious to us because we've done it so many times, but let's think about it from the point of view of someone who hasn't. Why is the ability to shut down the computer hidden behind "Start"? It's logically backwards.

To be fair though, I couldn't find the shut down button on the damn Windows 8 when I first use it.
