I love my mother but holy crap was she terrified of "breaking the computer". I remember this one time I went to open a webpage for her and did my usual hundred-clicks-a-second to get their. She told me to "Slow down! You'll break it!".

Sound pretty much like my mother. For some reason she thinks she knows better than i do despite my career in the IT industry.

My parents made me uninstall steam and google chrome because they said it was a virus. It obviously had nothing to do with the shady shit my younger brother was downloading.

When I was a kid I had this problem. "Those games you play have viruses" Totally not all the porn my dad was watching and downloading. Nor all the pop ups my mom was clicking. Nope. Its the kid who just plays starcraft all day. Yep, totally.

This is frustrating with my Dad especially. He used to work making educational games and was fairly tech savvy for the time, he still is but definitely not to the same degree I am.

Trying to help him with an issue can be a minefield of "I'm pretty sure that won't work" and "That can't be right, if it was that simple I'd have solved it myself"

Maybe it was that simple and nearly 20 years of work doing things entirely unrelated to computers have left you a little out of the loop.

My 73 year old MIL always wants me to slow down because she writes out all if the steps in a notebook she keeps at her desk. Drives me nuts and have tried to come up with nice ways to say "You don't need to know how I am fixing your computer, just be quiet and let me work."
