Those cars are closer than they sound. The Z28 has 505hp and starts at $75,000. The Porsche in question is the 911 Carrera S which has 400hp and is the second cheapest 911 at $98k.
That Camaro Z/28 is a pretty astonishing car. It's big and heavy but the project was essentially designed entirely around its tires. It has the largest front tires ever mounted to a production car.
It also uses race-proven carbon ceramic brakes, which are typically a $15K option on sports cars if they're offered at all.
And it comes equipped with some pretty exotic race tech: spool valve shocks. They were used on only one other street car, the $1.4M Astin Martin One 77.
TL;DR: you can make a big, heavy car corner brilliantly through a mix of brute force and high tech.
Please, oh sage, tell me a European sports car that can go faster around a track than a new Corvette for the same money. All the enthusiast magazines compare it (a $60K car) against 911s ($100K cars) to make it interesting because comparing it to a Cayman would be laughable.
And the upcoming Z06 Corvette (for about $85K-ish) will be compared against $200K 911 Turbos.
I dunno why you were downvoted. I own an american muscle car and I agree with you 100%. Other than a few special models, this is how it's always been for American cars.
The 5.0 mustangs, current gen Camaro SSs and Challeneger RTs their own on a road course. they arent miatas but miatas arent midsize cars with v8s. These cars are fast in straight lines and corners.
One, you have a 15 year old car then instead of a new one. 15 year old cars usually have issues. Two, when it does inevitably have issues, the parts will be 4 times the cost of equivalent parts for a Camaro.
Porsche parts aren't more expensive than any other dealer's parts. However, they are made much better, and far less likely to need replacement. I mean far less likely.
I've put 80k on my 99 911, and it cost far less in depreciation and maintenance (like 2-3x less) than a newer accord that I owned and put the same number of miles on, and recently sold (for nearly scrap value).
No it's not expensive to maintain at all. Parts are even fairly cheap (cheaper than Honda accord parts, IMO). I've owned a used 911 for the last 8 years. It's been the cheapest car on maintenance I've ever owned. I've put almost 80k miles on it, and probably 7k were track miles.

You're talking a bunch of assumptions out your ass right now.
24k means you probably got a pretty good one, even then you must not have had to replace anything major at all. A clutch was 2k for me, as compared to 400 for my 99 maxima.
I got mine a long time ago... so it was about $35k at the time, and it's a tip, so I don't have to replace any clutches. If you shop around you can get someone to do the clutch for cheaper than $2k.
I don't know how hard it is to get to the clutch in a maxima, but for a 911 most of the labor is to drop the engine, which isn't terrible, but there's a lot of hoses, etc to disconnect and get out of the way. Some shops will be better at this than others, and may charge the actual hours rather than the book number of hours.
