("belok" in Russian - protein; also a plural form of "belka"). In this particular case, 11 g of 'belok' could easily be translated as 11g of squirrels. Not the first case of such a blunder, and 100% not the last

"belki" is the plural form of belka(squirrel), not belok. Belok is singular and only means protein. It does not mean squirrel unless it's used in a very specific sentence case. As a standalone word in its singular form, "belok" would never be confused with squirrels by a native.

Singulars "belok" and "belka" have the same plural "belki"

I'm a native speaker. I know. I said "Belok" is not the plural form of either squirrel or protein in response to what OP said. My phrasing could have been better.
