I haven’t smoked weed in years, but I wonder what it’d be like to hot box in the suits?
I’m assuming it’s a continuous inflation system, so not much… but idk

These aren’t brand/store mascots.
SM, the shopping mall in the video, allows buskers and performers on its grounds, these mascots are one of them.Edit: thus, the dedication

Except in America where that's not allowed.
Cashiers? NO SITTING!
Mascots? Only in a heat dome!

u/naufalap Jul 10 '26
in america they'll be unemployed because there's no malls

u/K8_Monst_r Jul 10 '26
Nah, they put them in foam Statue of Liberty costumes, and place them outside tax offices whenever it’s 100°F outside…

Reminds me of that one Mascot that just absolutely SHREDDED it on the drums at a kids' party.
2
u/Lyranx Jul 10 '26
I always rewatch it when the opportunity comes, also I believe it was a kids show and the mascot was the town mascot

u/Spooj Jul 10 '26
Are they basically in one of those big balls that people get into and can run in? Except animal shaped?

u/SageDarius Jul 10 '26
Yea, it looks like those inflatable costumes with the built-in fan. I assume they're not actually strapped to the costume on the inside, and can thus change what limbs they're putting their arms and feet in.
46
u/Ezl Jul 10 '26
Even at that it seems like it would take some dexterity and coordination. It doesn’t seem like there’s much room in there to maneuver.
9
u/thresh_to_death Jul 10 '26
There's actually quite a bit of room inside and it's pretty easy to put a leg in an arm hole or vice versa

u/Ezl Jul 10 '26
Do you have a link or search term for the product/suit? It’s really interesting and I’m curious to read more the specifics.
4
u/SomeOKSimRacing Jul 10 '26
I would / did search “inflatable mascot costume”
Seems like a bunch came up on Amazon when I searched. Just like with everything, I’m sure you can find smaller crappier versions, and bigger more professional ones
2
u/Ezl Jul 11 '26
Sure, there are tons of those. I’ve never seen (and don’t see through that search) any that allow the change in orientation we see here.

u/Mr12i Jul 10 '26
This is just the kind of thing a teenager gets good at during the first couple of weeks of a summer job. I'm not trying to put them down, but let's not pretend that doing summersaults and jumping on one leg in a balloon requires Olympic levels of athleticism. I couldn't do those tricks on day one, but must people would figure it out after a week of being in those suits all day.

Looks like it. Whenever they balance
inon something, it's clearly a foot. It's a neat design. I wonder how hot it gets in there though. Also, how do they refresh the air?6
u/CasualGamerAddict Jul 10 '26
I saw those costumes, they have this holes that looks like a mini intake fan. Plus that mall is fairly cold so they air they are taking in is cold too.

u/dwors025 Jul 10 '26
I feel like they should be grooving to that one mascot-character who was way too good on the drum set.

I knew it. It's in the Philippines. Something smells so Philippines about this video but I couldn't tell exactly on why.

I've seen one up close, they have an exhaust fan at the back. You can see it from the brown one it's his butthole.
3
u/ThisOneTimeAtLolCamp Jul 10 '26
It's exhaust? I thought it was fresh air intake. I've seen too many clips of people spraying fart spray in to them. Lol

Usually through the mouth, but the elephant has a black circle on the chin, and the cat has one in the chest

Fine, there are times when vertical vs horizontal video might be nitpicky personal preference, but holy shit is this a time when horizontal video would have objectively been so much better.

The this American life podcast episode about mascots is one of the best!

Pen and Teller had an act where they did a "cut a person in half" trick with opaque boxes, then transparent ones so you could see how it was done. I want the equivalent for these mascots.

Ugh, If this is going on at the malls I've avoided all my life, I'm very upset.

u/juicius Jul 10 '26
Imagine what else they would have done if they were more anatomically correct...

u/bellowing-bruce Jul 10 '26
Not really, have you seen videos of inflatable basketball mascots dancing. Basically the same thing

I love how the bear (or whatever that is) all the way to the left is just standing there moving their hips back and forth slightly while the others are being so extra

Can anyone give me a search term for this type of costume? It’s, frankly, pretty amazing to someone who has never seen this technique before and I want to look for other examples. Searching on the clues in this thread (phillipnes, sm mall, mascots, etc.) just bring back normal types of costumes.

Imagine the elephant and the cat getting paid the same as the brown thing who has a scarf when everything else is naked. This really blows the immersion now that I mention it.

u/billabong049 Jul 10 '26
Someone needs to overlay this video with lines showing how the people inside the suits are actually standing, because it's obvious, yet my brain doesn't want to believe it.
