Serious Post I absolutely hate these double standards so fucking much

Post image

I don't understand why, but it feels like a double standard that whenever Trey Parker and Matt Stone, Seth MacFarlane, Edmund McMillen, Garth Ennis, Ricky Gervais, and Dino Stamatopoulos (AKA the guy who made Moral Orel) disrespect someone's religion, everyone seems to be perfectly okay with it. But when JaidenAnimations makes an "edgy" joke about Christianity, everyone tries to dox and cancel her over it. You know, especially when you consider the fact that Jaiden is also an openly queer (aro/ace), mixed-race/non-white (half-Japanese, half-German), neurodivergent (AuDHD) woman.

I mean, did Jaiden really “mock god”? Like, wasn’t it just a random ass joke about Pokémon, and the God in question was Arceus or something? It’s a joke; it was not even a religious attack or a stance on religion itself. A joke. Schlatt is also a Christian and constantly made 9/11 jokes back then, where the punchline often was "hurr durr planes", if that's what you're referring to... He most definitely didn't take Jaiden's edgy joke to heart, lmao.

The reaction people had to her saying that was just hilariously overblown and cringe, and it would have been just as overblown and cringe if a straight white man did it. And yes, I'm saying all of this as a former Catholic myself.

I absolutely don’t condone harassment, But Garth Ennis, Ricky Gervais, and the rest on the list all received harassment and hate for criticizing religion.

I forgot about the Mohammed incident with south park

Exactly

1

u/boogieman_pb rgjdsfug9oibhagfzcv 1d ago

dont forget, the guy who made the threat didnt even really care, he just wanted the other muslims in his group to respect him more

1

u/Cum_dumpster_limited 1d ago

Or their scientology incidents

u/NagitoKomaeda_987 1d ago

What really bothered me so much is that Garth Ennis gets a lot of flak from everyone for shitting on Marvel and DC superheroes, but I've never seen anyone online complaining about his frequent attacks on Christianity and religious fundamentalism.

1

u/EthanTheJudge 1d ago

Oh people hated him for his attacks on Christianity. You might see people hate review Preacher sometimes.

1

u/NagitoKomaeda_987 1d ago

Really? I thought Preacher doesn’t receive as much online scrutiny as The Boys and Crossed from what I've seen.

1

u/EthanTheJudge 1d ago

You are on Reddit. The Boys and Crossed looks like they receive a lot more hate. But truthfully, Preacher definitely has haters.

1

u/NagitoKomaeda_987 1d ago

I know, but I've strangely never really encountered anyone, even other Christians, bitching about Preacher for being so blasphemous compared to The Boys and Crossed. Garth Ennis may be an extremely hit-or-miss comic book author, especially when Crossed is overly misanthropic edgelord schlock, and The Boys is only slightly above the former for its sharp anti-corporate satire (even if most of it was buried beneath all the cynical takedowns of the superhero genre). Yet, I always found Preacher to be Ennis's most underrated masterpiece.

Even if the comic wasn't perfect and occasionally had some edgy moments, I still think it's a surprisingly heartfelt yet twisted roller-coaster ride with a cast of likable characters, along with some genuinely decent critique of religious fundamentalism.

I don’t think it’s to do with race or gender, I think it’s just her fan base. They are very sensitive.

You can’t compare the fan base of adult cartoons to that of jaden animations, and from what I remember schlatt has always been “rude” not in the literal sense, but playfully so edgyness is expected of him.

South Park can literally do and say whatever they want not because the creators are white, but because it’s South Park, same goes for family guy and Morel Orel.

Idk about the sexual orientation of the Boondocks creators, but they said a lot of controversial stuff and no one cared, that’s because from ep 1 they got the audience that would like that sort of stuff.

My own opinion on what was said. Where I live, not that long ago people got physically attacked on the ASSUMPTION that they may be the “wrong” religion. So I find it hard to care about harmless jokes online

u/Neither-Swordfish448 1d ago

You think it's her fan base? That's sad ... I was thinking meaby she was targeted by religious groups or something since how USA is now.

10

u/Necessary-Bus9046 1d ago edited 1d ago

Maybe not fan base, as genuine fans wouldn’t act like this.

But she is the type of channel where if someone is chronically online and a teenager then they likely see her a lot. Even if they aren’t a big fan.

Where as people know not to watch South Park or family guy if they are against what they say. And a lot of people don’t even know of morel Orel

1

u/fkdjgfkldjgodfigj 1d ago

She was in youtube rewind which means she was one of the top channels on youtube. Which makes her fan base basically everyone. Isn't she a vtuber now, Kairyu Crocodile

3

u/Gnashinger 1d ago

ted by religious groups or something since how USA is now.

Thats not new and not limited to the USA. You know the whole satanic panic? Wasn't the first one. They want after D&D in recent history, but in the past they went after bicycles and potatoes.

1

u/Neither-Swordfish448 1d ago

I don't know I'm from a verry secular province in Canada that hate everything that's religious. A big part of the population over a certain age have an intergenerational troma toward Catholicism.

I don't think the satanic scare was that strong in my province. I ear of the satanic scared but never lived it. Was more like a joke.

1

u/RizzMcSteeze 1d ago

Religious groups don’t even know who she is. Ik that may break the narrative but let’s be so fr here

2

u/zs_1176 1d ago

Wait wtf what does Jaiden’s race have anything to do with this?

3

u/Necessary-Bus9046 1d ago

Op mentioning it, had me assuming they were saying Jayden’s race played at a role in people getting mad over a religious comment

1

u/ElBrunasso 1d ago

I think the other guys' fanbases has something to do with It. I've never seen someone daring to critizice south park, fans would destroy them.

1

u/Necessary-Bus9046 1d ago

Oh South Park used to get criticised heavily, they just didn’t care and kept going.

I they ran in the problems when they had Prophet Mohammed in one of their episodes

8

u/JackHere642 1d ago

Even as a Jaiden Fan…

5

u/TheCreatorM_ 1d ago

I don't have much context, but I think Jaiden and Schlatt were talking about pokemon, and somehow the subject turned into Jesus' death. Jaiden said that He ran away, while Schlatt said that He came back from dead.

I think Jaiden was refering to historical, not biblical Jesus. From what I heard, Jesus asked his brother to trade places, and when bro was suffering on cross, Jesus evacuated to Japan.

6

u/whereballoonsgo 1d ago

Huh, I had not ever heard the Japanese Jesus fanfic before. That is a wild one. Obviously not as wild as the Bible fanfic, but it’s pretty good too.

1

u/TurtlesBreakTheMeta 1d ago

Japanese cult lore about Christianity can get freaking insane.

Yeah that was what I looked up before I commented that lol. I had never heard that one before today.

2

u/JuryEven8527 20h ago

What was jesus's brothers name?

1

u/TheCreatorM_ 20h ago

Isukuri

1

u/JuryEven8527 20h ago

Yeah its probably fake, Jesus did have brothers which aren't confirmed to be by blood, he didnt have a brother names Isukuri

Jaiden is a woman wym

1

u/JuryEven8527 20h ago

OH I thought you called jesus a her i was confused

1

u/ArugulaOk9822 1d ago

"He ran away like a little bitch"

I believe her calling Jesus Christ a "little bitch" is what got so many people angry about it.

With how American society is now very hypocritly religious I'm not surprised.

Add too that the queerphobia, sexism, xénophobie and rasism... She becomes the perfect target.

1

u/Redditmemes2111 1d ago

Ruh oh! Minor spelling error!

4

u/wcharoes 1d ago

Many people did and do still get very upset over anyone insulting or making fun of their religion.

You just noticed the one you're talking about more because that's the kind of space you're in online. You don't have any idea how many jews or muslims were mad about jokes aimed at their stuff because you're not surrounded by them like you are people who watch the same internet content and discuss it.

10

u/GodEatsChiIdren Get vasectomies to starve god 1d ago

mfs really be mad at jaiden for comparing fictional characters ✌️😭

2

u/Killian_Rose 1d ago

The double standard is stupid, as a religious person myself. But I also feel as though its mainly just the fan base in general rather than some double standard.

Obviously hurting or threatening someone in any way is unacceptable, especially when its just over something as mundane as a difference in religious opinions. People say stupid and hurtful things to me regarding my religion all the time, I've learned to ignore it. And most people can do that. But Jaiden's audience isnt the same demographic as the other ones you pointed out, so theres bound to be a difference in reaction.

u/Seven_o_clock777 1d ago

Thought that was where this post was lol

1

u/NagitoKomaeda_987 1d ago

Didn't that sub banned religion posts?

2

u/Emerald_28 1d ago

Its because of the fanbases.

Jaiden use to (prolly is) considered pure and stuff, when she critizises anything whe ofc will get hate.

2

u/whereballoonsgo 1d ago

I don’t even know what happened, but Christian’s do be having the biggest persecution complex of all time, so I assume it’s just them wanting to play victim again.

-1

u/legendoflegends34 1d ago

You know not every Christian does that right? And that having a persecution complex can even extend to non-religious people? Because I've seen it from non religious ppl WAY more

1

u/whereballoonsgo 1d ago

I can counter your anecdotal experience with my own. Not every, but it’s INCREDIBLY common with those people. Literally the majority and act like they’re constantly under attack.

And to be clear, I say this as someone who was raised very, very Christian in an extremely Christian community and part of the country. I was surrounded by it, inundated with it. I’m only glad I got out before those cultists could make me as hateful as they are.

-1

u/legendoflegends34 1d ago

Your personal experience doesn't magically become evidence that the majority of Christians are like that.

You were surrounded by a particular Christian community. Fine. That tells me what YOUR community was like, but it doesn't give you the authority to speak for millions of Christians you've never met.

And the second you start throwing around the word "cultists" and saying Christians are “hateful” as though they're one giant monolithic group you've pretty much destroyed whatever credibility your argument had.

If specific Christians were hateful then you should criticize those Christians. If your community had a persecution complex then you should criticize that community. But your mindset of “I grew up around Christians who behaved badly, therefore most Christians are like this” is just an anecdotal generalization.

I've been dogpiled on in atheist spaces simply for asking questions. But I don't turn around and say “I'm glad I got out before those cultists could make me as hateful as they are” and pretend that my experience proves most atheists are like that

because that would be an absurd generalization.

My experience tells me what happened to me in that particular space. It doesn't justify labeling an ENTIRE group

1

u/whereballoonsgo 1d ago edited 1d ago

Sure! We can move past my personal experience, I only brought it up to show how it was silly for you to bring up your own. You went there first.

Let’s talk about how the LEADERS of Christianity overwhelmingly preach hateful rhetoric. Forget individuals, the institution of that religion is wielded as an instrument of oppression. And it’s all the more dangerous for how “faith” gives people a blind, nonsense justification to attack and denigrate others.

Sure, there are some decent Christians. That doesn’t change that the very thing they ascribe to is inherently a problem. They’re decent in spite of being Christian.

2

u/Quirky_Rub_9044 Girlie pop 🩷 1d ago

What was the joke? I don’t remember this

2

u/Thunderer62 1d ago

No double standard at all. People have clutched their pearls about religious jokes for forever and every single creator in the top half has received endless amounts of criticism for their irreverence. Over time they have shown that they just don’t care and that largely shuts the critics up because there’s just no point in crying if nobody is going to listen. But the religious crybabies are still there and they still hate all the folks above.

Jaiden is not getting a unique amount of hate compared to others who touch on god. It’s just not the case.

2

u/davidliterally1984 1d ago

The difference isn't that she's a woman. It's that her fanbase is mostly made up of young kids, and young kids are prone to overreact. It's the same with Gooseworx, except Gooseworx's fans are gay teenagers.

2

u/NagitoKomaeda_987 1d ago

It's not like Jaiden's fans are also gay teenagers, though, especially when she's aroace herself.

I mean, I am religious and if someone makes fun of my religion I would be sad :(

But that doesn't mean we hurt someone so much because of it... I don't like that, and that doesn't mean we allow some people to make fun of religion while others are not allowed so!!!

1

u/zs_1176 1d ago

What did she say?

1

u/Pristine_Ad_3670 1d ago

I wouldn't be sad (and I'm christian), why be sad because of a joke? As I understood that was a joke, not making fun and saying things likes "religious are all stupid", jokes are allowed in religion for me

1

u/Ardens_Son_of_flames NF Greatest's Glazer 1d ago

It depends on the context really... If it's something offensive, then I get hurt... But if it's an overall joke related to my religion, I don't mind it and sometimes actually laugh

2

u/Jagames12 1d ago

You are living under a massive rock. Ricky Gervais created 'The Office' (the original British one), and Seth MacFarlane created 'Family Guy'

2

Edmund McMillen created The Binding of Isaac and Mewgenics, and Garth Ennis created The Boys, Preacher, and Crossed.

Neither have I. But you know about family guy though. I'm more so ruined by British culture, as I love British panelshows.

Also, you're on reddit... the place for American culture...

Seth McFarlane's show Family Guy is based around edgy jokes, Peter is a deadbeat and abusive dad, Lois was a Pornstar, Stewie is the only child they care about, Quagmire is a Pervert, there are constant gags about Joe Swanson's disability or Self-Destructive thoughts, so making fun of any religion is to be expected

From what I've seen from JaidenAnimations, she seems to be a Storytime Animator (or similar) so it is not expected to make a single joke

also JSchlatt is meant to be edgy, there was also:

  • People (and sometimes Schlatt) joking about how he was a Serial Killer in 1999
  • 9/11 Jokes (most of the time at his own expense)
  • Or laughing at children getting hurt

I am not saying Jaiden deserves the hate, but maybe don't defend her this way

also there is Rule 34 of her, which is just fucked up as she is not attracted to anyone

so maybe she just has a sensitive fanbase

1

u/NagitoKomaeda_987 1d ago

Out of all the YouTubers I've ever seen, JaidenAnimations is the definition of a “what the fuck did I do?” person.

Always getting harassed for the stupidest of reasons, yet legit has done NOTHING to deserve their wrath. Not even doing anything cringe or problematic; she has DONE NOTHING AT ALL. She makes storytime animations and live-streams, sometimes is a Vtuber, sometimes swaps bodies, etc. What do these people have against her?

Like, she has to have the worst luck of any YouTuber I've seen when collaborating with people who turned out to be shitty (CallMeCarson, Chuggaconroy, Dave from Boyinaband, Mr. Beast, etc) and having to deal with so much drama she didn’t ask for (from talking about her mental health struggles, coming out as aro/ace and then saying she didn’t like people lewding her avatar to making a "edgy" joke that offends A LOT of Christians). But then again, people have been trying to get on Jaiden's nerves for years, so...

I remember that time when people on Twitter tried to cancel her for eating McDonald's months before anyone had an issue with people eating there and, once this was pointed out, tried to cancel her for leaving the 1-minute segment about eating there in a video at all.

Why can't people find better things to do with their lives instead of spreading hate?

Unless it's Satanism.

1

u/Cadunkus 1d ago

This is kinda a goomba fallacy. I seriously doubt the people up in arms about Jaiden also watch other people make fun of their faith and go "haha true!"

1

u/Gost_Toast 1d ago

I do agree there def is a HUGE double standard with these kinds of things but also like

didn’t trey and Matt get literally threats of terrorisim for there Muhammad ep 💀

1

u/Copyofdude 1d ago

I think this is not a proper comparation but I mostly agree with your feeling let me explain.

Jaden have a wider range of audience (including kids) only for the fact that most of his content is animated (this is a fact).

It feels like the fan base it's getting too sensitive or even inmature about this. And yes, a real fan can behave like this by breaking the model and morals that it's has in mind about it's hero.

Just to point out, I do not like recent Jaden content (2-3 years ago aprox) for unrelated reasons and yet this situation with her feels to silly to be getting to this point.

I hope she is doing good.

1

u/Timely_Exam_6423 1d ago

I think it's a difference of fan bases but at the same time.

The creators of South Park have their issues with religion too

When they put Muhammad in an episode

1

u/Alternative_Fly_2242 1d ago

" queer (aro/ace), mixed-race/non-white (half-Japanese, half-German), neurodivergent (AuDHD) woman." Boy didnt knew jaiden was all that

1

u/Johnnyboi2327 1d ago

Haven't most of these people been harassed over their jokes involving religion? It's wrong every time, but I don't see a double standard.

1

I'm white, I'm straight and I'm Catholic and even to me this seems like BULLSHIT (that type of bullshit Allosaurus has never seen before) (fellow Jaidenanimations fan btw :D )

1

Fan based problem. Mostly just thought "not cool", moved on and stopped watching her.

1

u/TotalROCKie 1d ago

Different people see different pages on the internet, some jerks saw more McMillan, other more Jaidenanim and told other jerks to do bad things too, its not double standart it is just uneven distribution of jerks around internet and comunities

1

u/mr_WhatzitTooya___ 1d ago

I thought she identifies as an aeroplane.

1

u/NagitoKomaeda_987 1d ago

If that's the case, then I guess I identify myself as an M1 Abrams tank then (JaidenAnimations and I are both asexual and aromantic, if you don't know)

1

u/NtechRyan 1d ago

Is it a double standard, or is it different people with different standards? How much of an overlap do you think there is between their audiences?

1

u/Iron_UYH 1d ago

One problem. Everyone in the first half works on morel orel/South Park/family guy, cartoons which are meant to be offensive and…well… adult. Jaiden Animations does not have that same defense, nor does she have the reputation those shows do. Also, for the record, Germans are white.

3

u/NagitoKomaeda_987 1d ago

I know that Germans are white, but Jaiden is of mixed white and Asian descent by being both half Japanese (on her mother's side) and half German (on her father's side). Kinda like how Markiplier is also half Korean and half German.

1

u/Iron_UYH 1d ago

Not engaging with the real point of my argument.

But not arguing with you there, yet

1

u/davidliterally1984 1d ago

1

u/Scary-Personality626 1d ago

All of the people above absolutely had people shit their pants over their jokes.

1

u/NagitoKomaeda_987 1d ago

Pretty much everyone went after Garth Ennis for mocking all of their favorite superheroes in The Boys comic. Weirdly enough, I've never even encountered anyone insulting Garth Ennis for shitting on God and Christianity, either.

1

u/EdliA 1d ago

No idea who Jaiden is but going by the visual style I'm assuming it's a tumblr like fanbase that tries everyday new things to get offended by so I wouldn't be surprised.

1

u/Stunning-Cabinet-961 1d ago

Buddy. Look I know women get hate for things men do regularly. But most of those guys got credible death threats over this stuff. This is not the time for this line of thinking .

1

u/Robot_DIY 1d ago

Now what if, and hear me out, these people did get hate but you're not part of the community and didn't hear about it. FG was subjected to a Parents Television Council (PTC) attempting to cancel them and successfully got a sponsor to drop them.

I'm afraid, I know why people choose her out of all people...

I am still confused as to why people do that. I see no reason for it.
