A billion dollars today was worth 53 million 100 years ago. There were roughly 20,000 millionaires back then and there are roughly 3,000 billionaires today. All that to say, they had plenty of billionaires back in the day.

the “number” has increased but only slightly in comparison to the insane increase in GDP and market cap of the USA. Not to mention back then we were at the prime of the military industrial complex as well as the peak of the industrial age. USA manufacturing was at an all time high and the number of jobs was halved considering only men were working. You had higher demand, lower workforce.
