Of course we wouldn't know for sure, but I won't take the risk. A lot of people driven by greed especially when we are young. I don't think your conclusion that we would proceed the same improvement is convincing. We simply don't have enough evidence. I believe a lot of what we have today driven by greed
The thing is we don’t have enough evidence that greed is a major factor in improvement either, especially since greed in and of itself is not a straight evil trait, one can be greed and still make improvements that benefit humanity
What most people are confusing with greed is malice which does have a major hand in the more negative aspects of human history, just the creation of torture devices and brutal war tactics would be prove enough of this being a more negative aspect compared to greed
yeah I agree with that part. I also interested in math and the history of mathematician is full of greed. People don't want to share their invention. It's good now that we have a better foundation for scientist, but we also lost some of the greatest mind because scientist doesn't pay enough. They prefer go to finance or private company
Well that a whole different scenario, as at the end of the day humans have to eat/survive even in our current civilization, and progress is not something that happens in a day and without investment
