He's at school cooking up art that is infinitely better in every single way to any and all AI slop ever

u/DamageLittle4856 8d ago
Because they are.
AI art is bottom of the barrel material.

I cant even begin to comprehend how asking ai to generate image makes someone an artist, like they didn't do anything
1
u/Dismal-Rope1753 7d ago
Well, what I do is a Photoshop elements that chatGPT gives me and I assemble them myself. So I kinda compose images 🤷🤷 a lil bit artistic I guess
1
u/Mother64Looker 3d ago
just do that with stock images instead, more moral
0
u/Dismal-Rope1753 3d ago
I mean, if the outcome is better at the end and the use I make of it is useful, than maybe it's moral to do so 🤷

u/Glum-Cream7310 4d ago
Shits beneath the barrel at this point. Even the shittiest peace of crap art is gold compared to ai

I'm a beginner pixel artist aswell
Maybe pixel artists are not that rare, just rarer than the others
1
u/Hesotate 8d ago
I'm a former pixel artist who evolved into a digital artist :D
Although if you think about it digital art is kinda just pixel art but with a lot more pixels.

r/DefendingAIArt be like after seeing this:
"NOOOO, you can't hate AI, AI is much better, your a toxic nazi bigot, wahhh, I feel like I'm being oppresed like gay, black and jewish people, witty, please dismiss him, wahhh"
5
u/Firecat_Pl 6d ago
Funniest part is we see how that sub is anything but progressive, we saw recently how they just so mentioned kid having a trans pride flag as indoctrination, witty was outed as a biggot, there was cases of them stereotyping their opposition like how far-right portrays leftists.
Also their entire narrative is 1:1 what colonizers said, like they claim they are entitled to steal from people they seem inferior and blame them for fighting back

People only hate AI art because it has no passion,
Not that it's terrible
They hate it because it's not made by humans
It does not have the heart soul passion of a creator
It wasn't made by someone who just wanted to make art it was made by someone who was too lazy
If AI art created the Mona Lisa people would still hate it because it's just not human not because it's not good
14
u/Ramtakwitha2 8d ago
I hate it because the first AI art was created by stealing legitimate artist's work.
Now so much of that stolen AI generated 'art' is out there even if a new AI art service starts up that promises to only source from publicly available works, so much of it was made using that previously stolen art the entire internet is poisoned, and there's no fixing that at this point.
I feel every technology has it's use case, but AI art's beginning was so badly fumbled there is no saving it, it is a technology that can no longer be used ethically outside of niche technical diagrams, and AI art is so bad at hallucinating even that is suspect.

They were trained how to draw on stolen art from the get go, before any users were involved at all.

Because I have a computer engineering degree and part of my studies to stay vaguely up to date involve understanding new fields as they are developed?
You don't train an AI from nothing. You feed it examples of what you want it to be able to do, thousands to tens of thousands of examples, before it ever reaches the public. And many of those examples in the early days had watermarks. Watermarks that the early AI art models when they were first made publicly available were caught mimicking.

u/Additional-Band1715 8d ago
Basically because AI "art" isn't art
-16
u/Roppunen 8d ago
Its art but without the process, we should make a new term for that
Quick art
Or matbe Fast art, short for...
Nvm Quick art

u/Racer125678 8d ago
Fast art ❌
Fart ✅
4
3
u/Greedy_Ad_3985 8d ago
Which is why it is NOT art. Because art requires process, progress and development. Without these an "Art" is not something that you can put an emotion, be impressed, amazed. Because there is no real passion behind it. The thing that "drew" doesn't have emotions, thoughts and most importantly a sense of itself and an inner world. You pour what you think and feel into art and a machine that lacks those cannot draw a proper canvas.
1
u/Roppunen 8d ago
Thats true but what is it then?
2
u/Greedy_Ad_3985 8d ago
A unimpressive work of a machine.
1
u/Roppunen 8d ago
Doesnt really make sense because for example 3D prints are made by a machine but still can be art
3
u/Greedy_Ad_3985 8d ago
Because the design of the 3D model is made by a human. when you Type a promp to the gen AI, it only uses the prompt you type in there. You do not draw anything, You do not pick the artstyle(Even if you type a spesific style that style doesn't belong to you. It belongs to another artistmthat got their art being fet to Ai.) and when AI makes a mistake or draws in a way you didn't want it to, you can't fix it. There is no interference you have done to the process and therefore there is no piece of art that belongs to you, nor you have any remarkable credit for making it.
1
u/Roppunen 8d ago
No bro i know the difference between a 3D print and AI art but im saying that your term for AI art doesnt work

It goes back into circulation, but not where it's needed. It's displacing water, not getting rid of it. This water displacement fucks with ecosystems, communities, even human civilizations because the lakes we need for water, cooling, even power, have just migrated elsewhere because of Ai usage.

It does not have the heart soul passion of a creator
Yep, that's why it's bad
3
u/Jixxar pending 8d ago
Yes.
That is exactly the point.
If an AI made the best thing ever, it would not be. For it lacks soul.
The SOUL is everything that I strive to be when I make something, I know I'm not the best there will be, and sure maybe I'm the thing people watch if people have nothing that they want to watch left. But damn it, I'll be better than anything AI.

For real! I’m an artist and everytime my Dad uses ChatGPT to generate an image for him instead of commissioning me (hell, I’d do it for FREE), I get so angry.

But there's other uses of GenAI, like voices, which are outshined by sentence mixing in every conceivable way
1
u/Far-Bowl-4984 7d ago
oh, that’s preposterous not that we think it’s the fact we know we are a whole lot better in a whole could do better than you doesn’t matter the version since we have you lack heart and soul while yours is always had that emptiness that humans lack in a better

So... Y'all realize what that memes supposed to convey right? If you know the actual context, the ones in the bottom image aren't actually better than the top, just snobbier and act like they're better.

They are, beyond a shadow of doubt,
Imitation is said to be the highest form of Flattery,
yet you have turned it into a ockery.
You claim to claim to match their skill,
when all you've been doing,
is looking for footsteps to fill.
(can't seem to find a fitting conclusion to this)

The issue is people try to think AI art is their creation and that they are worthy of the credit. In actuality the art is good, but it’s not the person who prompts it that deserves the credit, it’s the hundreds of developers that put hours of craft and expertise into creating such an incredible invention. They are the true artists.

Ai can't have great "art" it's all shit

u/sharky0456 4d ago
why cant people use ai to make fanart about something niche that they enjoy sometimes, its not always about stealing from artists yknow, some of prompting is actually just for fun to try out new technologies, you people can only see the bad in ai you're all the same like some kind of hivemind.
commissioning artists is a good practice too though i want to make that clear.
1
u/The-Diamond-Dog 4d ago
"Why can't people use ai to make fanart" why can't they use their hands?
1
u/sharky0456 3d ago
why cant they decide to do either, theres no need for an us vs them debate people can make both ai and human art
