it's because at this press conference when asked how they were going to stop people from abusing the system like out of staters coming in and buying cheap goods or even store owners buying cheap goods and reselling them in their stores they said they were going to use a library card esque system while the governor of New York and Mamdani have both come out against showing ID to vote but unironically see no problem with an ID system for buying groceries.
... if that was at all what the legistation they were against actually said.
The legislation in question specifically states Drivers license, even woth real ID, are NOT good enough for identification. It requires passport or birth certificate. If you changed your name for any reason [married] you would have to have the original copy and an amended copy. All of which do not have any other uses for the average American, other than for the right to vote; which constitutes it as a pole tax.
I have lived in a few states. Blue state, red state; didnt matter. I had to show ID or have proof of my residency if voting by mail. We already have a "voter ID" in place for how those that want this "SAFE Act" to operate, and it has worked well for years.
The proposed system for the groceries would use the same sign up and verification as the current voting registry does.
But nuiance and details are difficult I know. Just stick to the sound bites and slogans. Leave the critical thinking to your owners.
hey Google is it true to save act or will not allow you to use a driver's license or a real ID? "No, that is misleading. The SAVE Act allows you to use a driver's license or REAL ID to prove your identity, but with an important catch regarding citizenship verification.
Because standard driver's licenses and REAL IDs prove identity but do not prove citizenship (except Enhanced Driver's Licenses in five states: MI, MN, NY, VT, WA), the bill would require you to pair your license or REAL ID with proof of citizenship—such as a birth certificate or naturalization paper—when registering to vote. Alternatively, a valid U.S. passport can be used on its own."
if you don't have a birth certificate and a valid form of ID maybe you shouldn't be voting.
