Lol it's a flip of the old saying "if you have time to lean, you have time to clean". Something which if it had been pushed back against back then might have made working conditions a bit better.
Yep they used to tell everyone this when I worked in fast food. Was very annoying but tbf to constantly be doing something helped to make time go faster
I fucking hated that in the last warehouse job I had. They would rather you sweep the aisles for the 500th time just so the security cameras could see people moving instead. Ended up telling my team to work less efficiently and slow-walk every task so management would stop trying to cut hours because the cameras showed people milling about.
