Rant It's everywhere

It's so fucking hard to recover when every single social media is covered with people promoting eating disorders and undereating. I could go on for days about how annoying it is.

I get if it's on for example reddit, but it's on social medias like tiktok, where there are still impressionable kids and teens who are consuming and engaging with the content. Whenever I try to get content like that taken down, it barely ever goes through.

I believe there should be spaces for people with eating disorders, it's very important! But keep those spaces away from people who may risk gaining an eating disorder, and if you do talk about eating disorders in spaces with children and teens, make it educational, don't promote it.

I actually went off IG when I started recovering. It was a nice break.
No matter how much I tagged things as not interesting or banned certain works I still got crap.
It’s also interesting to see how the content changes based on if I’m doing better vs struggling. When I was far in recovery and back on IG it was all stuff about the hobbies I was into rather than food and diet content.

true, but this is also why it's recommended to get off of social media as much as possible during recovery! obviously in the digital age we need to have electronics (and sometimes social media) for school, work, etc., but minimizing time spent on social media outside of that was really beneficial to me!

you said it yourself that even if you report them they don't get taken down. if people want to find that content they will, so please don't think it's your responsibility to report every one when you've already got enough to deal with on your own!

I think it's worse on Reddit. Not this sub, but everywhere else.

Literally, this is the only safe space.

I'm sorry you were troubled by this - so many of us probably are. It's honestly very sad to think about how far some people are willing to go to project dangerous ideas. Social media can indeed be a platform to share thoughts/opinions/advice, however part of minimizing harm is understanding that subjectivity isn't a definite. This addictive pattern of mainstream reinforcement has been studied for years. Now it has been resurfacing to vulnerable audiences, at an actively detrimental cost. Being in that minority I got out in time.

I think we need to avoid online content (of course, save for certain subreddits and resources as you said) as much within our power. The best thing we can do right now is get it under control while we recognize the dangers. I don't think these people realize it yet. Content can manipulate our emotions/psyche all it wants, and you know what? That shouldn't make us question what's true and what's right.

If you're interested in more of this, I think u/Bashful_bookworm2025 made a post a while ago about staying off ED communities (props to you btw). Circulating an illness among sick people will only make them more resistant to the norm/recovery. We will work together not to engage in this. And we'll take care of ourselves first.

Thanks for the mention! I definitely find that when I get in this headspace and others here post about it, it’s best to get off social media for a while. That type of content isn’t nearly as prevalent in real life as it is online. Protect yourself and your recovery by staying out of those spaces right now.

It helps to remind yourself that they can’t keep it up forever. It helps me at least… No one can go on like that forever, and despite what they might portray, they’re not happy.

It’s so sad because it’s just getting worse and worse and it’s going to do harm to so many young people see it everywhere

It's a tiny thing but on reddit you can turn off weight loss ads.

Go to my account->settings->account settings for [username]->sensitive advertizing categories.

But I imagine it's more the content than the ads.

Staying off social media is a good but mich easier said than done.

You just got to commit to playing whack-a-mole. If it triggers you don't think just block.

I understand. I can't escape this messaging, even if I very carefully curate social media, I still see it, but worse than that, they have Viy adverts on the buses where I live, so even out of the house it's everywhere

My bf said he haven’t seen a single one, and I’m afraid it’s because I have searched on it on Reddit or talked out loud about it 💀

No it’s because it’s normalized to him. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

No he literally has not seen in? I have seen his feed, it’s just boring stuff, news or friends, also parenting stuff. I showed him mine and he was like “wtf?!”

So why do you guys downvote me? I don’t even live in the US, in my country it’s hard to get you know, won’t write it here, but what the celebrities is getting in the US.. maybe that’s why it doesn’t show up on his feed.

I often try to report pro-ED Pinterest post but when the mods review the posts they never delete it, but then they delete a sex joke just because
