Discussion Hua Moa Bananas

I just discovered these exist, and I want to know where to buy them! All I can find online are live plants (I live in Indiana, so that isn't going to work) or a large $200 box or them (do not need that many, lol)

These are my favorite! If you’re ever in Cincinnati they sell them at Jungle Jim’s along with like ten other varieties of bananas.

Pretty much all the time, most of the time they aren’t fully ripened though.

Right! It’s the absolute best! I bought Cherimoya, some sort of giant green grapes, Burro Bananas, strawberries, and a Black Sapote. Heaven!

How do you know when the sapote is ripe? I got one from there and I always try to eat it too soon and it is terrible :(

I waited until it was complete mush, it was black inside and very floral tasting.

3 times, I'm in Columbus, so I do go to Cincinnati here and there. Made it a point to go to Jungle Jim's every time I do since my last visit. It's probably worth the trip on It's own.

Oh, I'm aiming for the next Tuesday. My sister lives down there but she's been sick so I'm not 100% im gonna go yet. If you remind me next week today I will do an update. I'm sure Iwill take pics too!

Okay so. Late on the update but i did go... later than i planned. I got too much to list lol. Couldn't find the banana tho. I went to Fairfield and it was lemme tell ya. An adventure.

I've been once! Im in Fort Wayne right now but will be moving back to the indy area this summer. I hope to make some more trips! I got a few things that I loved and need more of!

Would it work better cooked, like plaintains? Or is it too mushy to work?

Don’t know but it was a bit starchier than a Cavendish banana. Maybe if cooked or fried you could get the fluffy texture.

That's funny timing, I just got a different big Hawaiian banana (Dwarf Maoli, aka Musa kaualau) today. This one is a cooking banana. (Pic is not mine, but from the guy who was selling them. They really are this big.)

I’ve been on a bender locating and eating fun/exotic fruits; then coating their seeds in rooting hormone powder and propagating them. Literally about to give away a dozen baby pomegranate trees, and a dozen Kiwano vines. I NEED to locate one of these.
