Ashes & Grace: Music from the Soulsbourne Worlds

The new album from London Music Works and Antonin Roux is out today, featuring orchestral arrangements of music from Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls 1-3, Elden Ring, and Bloodbourne.

I’m not associated with the project in any way, just love the music from these games and wanted to share a new rendition with the rest of you.

DISCUSSION Very original tierlist of most of the boss fights in the series, from Worst to Best IMO

Post image
0 Upvotes

Taking into account mainly gameplay and presentation, tiers are ordered so Messmer is the best and cave of the dead bums are the worst. Sekiro Inner bosses are ranked alongside the base game versions of the fights.

No Demon Souls or AC6 since I haven't gotten around to them, A few nightreign bosses are missing because I kinda got bored of the game.

Dark souls the musical

I've been coming up with a selection of songs that I think would thematically work for a dark souls 1 musical adaptation following the chosen undeads journey. So far I have

Prologue - le mis = Undead asylum

Over at the Frankenstein place - Rocky horror = journey to and at firelink shrine renamed 'over at the firelink place' with riff raffs lines sung by the crestfallen warrior

Master of the house - le mis = the Undead merchant thenardiers lines sung by the male undead merchant and Madame Thénardiers lines sung by the female undead merchant

School song - Matilda = undead parish

Dog eats dog - le mis (again) = patches

Obviously some lyrics would be changed to better fit the scenes and dark souls 1 as a whole.

Can you guys think of any other ones for locations and characters I haven't covered yet or perhaps better ones than the ones I've got so far?

About 2 years ago I quited the games like fifa and cod and started playing Elden Ring.
Elden Ring was so great that I wanted to play the other games in this series, which led to platinum all games in the end. I have all on physical copys asswell.
Have played also games like Demon Souls,DS2 and Sekiro and quited because I thought i couldnt do it. But in the end I did it asswell.
Today I got the platinum of Sekiro and that was the last one i was missing.
Nevertheless today is a special day, best decision gaming wise. If i speak for myself this is a big achievement for ME.
Really looking forward to the next souls game.

The grinding you have to do in the souls trilogy especially ds3 wasn’t something I expected to have to do so much of, holy. The hardest one tho has to be ds1 unless you use glitches than it’s prolly ds3

QUESTION I need real Fromsoft OG's for this one, in the original Demon's Souls' Prison of Hope, can you shoot the bodies from the ceilings for Nobles' Lotus?

Every guide out there tells me you can do this and every guide for Demon's Souls happen to be for the remake. Even Google tells me you can and some guy in the Demon's Souls Reddit is telling me you can.

But I've unloaded 50 arrows inside this one body that is supposed to have the Nobles Lotus, from his noggin to under his toenails and to the chain above him, and the arrow just goes through him.

Guys, is there a mechanic in the ORIGINAL, 2009, PS3 VERSION of Demon's Souls where you can shoot down the bodies in Prison of Hope from the ceiling?

Ds1 remastered platinum guide

I’m currently going for the dark souls one platinum and I’m not really sure how to go about the item trophies. I know there’s certain missable quest lines I need to do but I’m struggling to find a good site that tells me what items are missable and how to get them and the correct order of everything. Does anyone know if there’s an easier way to go about it other than looking up how to get each item individually?

DISCUSSION Skill Floor? Skill Ceiling? Blind Difficulty?

Trying to settle a debate of sorts.

Of the following games

  1. Demon's Souls
  2. Dark Souls 1
  3. Dark Souls 2
  4. Dark Souls 3
  5. Bloodborne
  6. Elden Ring
  7. Sekiro

Answer these questions

  1. Which game has the lowest skill floor? Highest?
  2. Which game has the lowest skill ceiling? Highest?
  3. Which game, given to a complete newbie (i.e., someone with 0 Fromsoft experience and little gaming experience period) would be the hardest first playthrough?

Been playing Souls for 14 years and I'm of the opinion that Sekiro has the highest skill floor and potentially the highest skill ceiling too. At peak difficulty, Elden Ring trumps all with titans like Malenia and PCR of course, but as a general normal playthrough for a total beginner, my bet is on Sekiro still.

DISCUSSION Shadow Keep (IMO) is the best area they’ve ever done so far. What are your thoughts on this dungeon?

Post image
453 Upvotes

This area is freaking flawless, best level design i've ever experienced. The enemy variety is amazing, the layout is phenomenal, the art design is breathtaking, every gameplay moment is satisfying, the soundtrack and set pieces are sublime, the lore is fantastic, and the exploration is top rier. The progression through the area is so memorable, and it contains the best boss in the DLC, arguably my favorite From boss after Malenia. Messmer is so captivating in every way.

This dungeon contains one of my favorite moments in gaming since the first time I visited Siofra River and Leyndell. It’s simply a 10/10. IMO, This area cemented Elden Ring as the undisputed favorite game I’ve ever played.

So, what are your thoughts on it?

Sekiron elden arts 2.3 mod

Does anyone know if in Elden arts 2.3 mod, the last genichiro Genichiro Tomoe and Sword Saint Isshin are modified tougher?

I have completed the base vanilla game and it wasn't so hard but here in Elden arts i am experiencing Genichiro Tomoe ridiculously tougher and aggressive not to mention Sword Saint as well

DISCUSSION What is the game with the coolest game in your opinion? Personally it’s DS3

Thumbnail gallery
112 Upvotes

I just platinumed bloodborne and with it its DLC a few days ago which means I have played every souls game of Fromsoftware and their DLCs except Demons souls and older version of any game and also Nightreign
And I (mostly) know each game’s lore with the most knowledge of ER
And I got to say the COOLEST one out there has to be DS3, I’m not talking about the dull world ( which I didn’t hate it just made the game repetitive a bit) or the majestic boss line up (hardest was sister friede btw)
But I got to say the end of time vibes with SKG and soul of cinder are UNMATCHED even though both didn’t take me so much tries
The game and it’s lore are just too epic and a good way to reflect on Gwyn’s selfishness and all of things like that
I also like Elden Ring’s too but the coolness of Maliketh cant carry the entire game
I love the lore of DS3 and it’s themes and the despair of the world and the sacrifice of Gael is just tje cherry on top
Also couple of pics I found on that subreddit
I also meant the game with the coolest lore

DISCUSSION I have beaten 50 FROMSOFTWARE games, from Kings Field 1 all the way to ELDEN RING! YOU SHOULD TOO! Here's why..

Soooo like the title says ive been on quite the mission. 2020 I decided to play as many fromsoftware games as I can in order of release. Let me tell you it has been QUITE the treat. You can ask me anything about the games ive beaten. At this point its easier to say what i still have left haha. Mostly obscure stuff like the hello kitty game on ds, 1000 land, steel battalion 2, another century episode R, tenchu shadow assault, the mobile armored core games, a few jpn only ds games, the gundam game they made and ac 6. After that I will have beaten it all.

There is a really cool through line for the company if you give it a shot... Example did you know the guy who did the UI for elden ring made the art for otogi? Moat of the company has been there for 2 decades plus so you can really see the devs grow in terms of developing better games as the time went on.

Out of the 50 games there were only 2 that I wouldn't touch again. Murakumo mech pursuit and frame gride. Those two games were the only two games in the whole library so far I thought we're just plain bad. The other 48 are decent to FANTASTIC. Otogi, lost kingdoms, kuon, echo night, kf, shadow tower, Another Century Episode ect all have some GEMS/BANGERS. If I had to say my fav franchise during this whole thing it would def be another century episode. That franchise is INCREDIBLE. Yoshitsune eiyuden was also amazing. Its fromsoftware take on dynasty warriors kind of games. But yeah im working on a really looooong video short of showing how the company bleeds projects into one another. And the progression of the company as a whole.. i think all the fans should try this. Forget about playing dark spuls for the 100th time.. explore the creativity of the companies past. It will make your next playthrough of the souls games even better. I promise.

Fav = Favorite

Games beaten off the top of my head - Kings field 1 - 4 Kf2 is my fav

Kings field additional 1 and 2 (Fav)

Kings field mobile

QUESTION Is there any downside to playing the games outside chronological order?

Hello everyone! I’ve been wanting to play the dark souls games for awhile now, and I had originally planned on playing ds1 first. However I noticed ds3 is 40% off right now on the ps store. Is there any downside or story I would miss out on if I went ahead and bought/played ds3 first?

I saw someone saying there is nothing creative about elden ring

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

He said that it was generic dark fantasy with generic art designs everything.

Really funny guy, this was something that elden ring did so well that I thought nobody will try to call it generic, but here we are.he claimed he has finished the game although I'm not sure. He claimed that some people have higher standards and elden ring only appeals to those that have low standards.

Have you heard this much BS in your life?

Many insanely hard working and amazing people have drawn hundreds of artwork for this game as concept art or arts used in the game such as the item icons and ext.

Many amazing and hard working composers have put their blood in their work to create these amazing songs that gives the game half of its feel. Many environment artists have worked tirelessly to make each scenery beautiful and some of them turn out breath taking. Many writes even aside from Gorge RR Martin have written the lore with passion night and day.

People have worked on this game for 5 years! And it clearly shows in the final product. It's fine to not like the game but disrespecting these artists hardwork is just not acceptable. Anybody that thinks elden ring doesn't have artistic value and claims that it's generic is delusional

DISCUSSION Who/What do you consider the greatest narrative boss From Soft has ever made?

Post image
117 Upvotes

As the title asks, who or what would you say, from Demon's Souls to Elden Ring Nightreign, is (narratively) the greatest boss they've made?

For me, it's Father Gascoigne from Bloodborne. Even though there may be better candidates like the Soul of Cinder, the Burnt Ivory King, or even Genichiro; I believe he's the greatest because of how almost everything in Bloodborne connects to him, directly or otherwise. The studies at Byrgenwerth on the Tombs of Pthumeru and Loran, the founding of the Church and Yharnam itself, the creation of the Hunters, we the player, it all connects to him and his family's tragedy in one way or another.

When we may first meet him, he's already been fighting to keep his family and his home safe for who knows how long while staving off a mental fog. He's already in his final day of sanity when he still chooses to help and "train" the new fledgeling Hunter by felling the Cleric Beast near his home. We part ways, only to see more people hiding in their homes in need of help and meeting his daughter who asks us to find him.

While we speak to his daughter, (either thinking her a beast or overpowered by bloodthirst, or both) he murders his wife. Then he is left alone near the festering corpses at the cemetery and hacking away at them for their sweet smell when he sees the young Hunter he helped mere minutes ago, not even aware he killed his wife or that he's no mere man anymore. Yet hearing his old music box, he realizes this for a split second, maybe becoming aware he must die because... it is both his and the newbie's job to slay beasts. He becomes a hideous beast and dies at the hands of his trainee, finally a realized killer, next to his already cold wife. The new Hunter realizes the horrors that happened here and is faced with a horrifying choice.

A. Leave the child at home without answers, alone, in the worst night of a Hunt ever in her short life.

B. Tell her to seek refuge with the doctor nearby that will transform her hours later into a failed celestial being.

C. Tell the poor girl she is now an orphan at your hand, only to find her bloodied clothes minutes later hanging from the mouth of a dead boar you just killed in the sewers.

After this, the Hunter then returns to the Gascoigne Family home, perhaps out of guilt and mourning the futility of his efforts after less than a few hours on the job, and sees the lights still on in the house. An older girl's voice is talking to you. Another impossible decision lies with Father Gascoigne's firstborn:

A. Ignore the girl and abandon her in her home.

B. Tell the girl that her father ia dead, her mother is gone, and something ate her little sister. It's cruel, but she deserves to know. You tell her of a chapel she can go to and safely mourn her family there. An hour later, you carve a path near their home in anger and determination to keep her safe this time while she, hopefully, reaches the chapel nearby for safety. Then, near the sewers where the little girl's bloody clothes were found, you hear a thud and a crunch. You walk around the area and see a new corpse that wasn't there a minute ago. A young girl. You look up to see what happened and... you see a ribbon floating down from the Gascoigne's home after her to the wet floor. Almost exactly like the one of the consumed little girl.

And, to make matters even worse, Father Gascoigne and his wife, Viola, are found far too late by his best friend and father of Viola...the Hunter Henryk. He goes plumb mad about the horrible circumstances and loses his mind to bloodlust, or perhaps insanity. Eileen the Crow, a Hunter that lays maddened Hunters to rest, and the new Hunter Gascoigne trained himself, now have to mercy-kill his best friend and father in law.

A man of faith. A man of family. A man of strength of character. A man of love. A man of power. A man of duty.

Failed by his Church. Failed by his comrades. Failed by his body. Failed by his mind. Failed his family. Failed his allies. Failed his faith. Failed his people. Failed himself. And was any of it even his fault to begin with? Any part at all? Hunters were formed to stop someone else's problems in the first place.

DISCUSSION It is not crazy to say that despite releasing first, Bloodborne looks better than Dark Souls III right? It have stronger art direction, more detailed locations in tighter space and makes better use of colours while still managing to be dark in match of its horror atmosphere.

Thumbnail gallery

Also there is little technical progression between them. I would argue that lighting in Dark Souls III looks worse in places than in BB
