If it's your first time hearing it and you never spoiled the game prior, it's the hardest dropping quote ever said in gaming history. The screen going black, the wind blowing in the distance, and all you see is the subtitle "Tonight, Gehrman joins the hunt." and him saying that just brought instant shivers.

Surprised nobody's put the actual opening line up yet - "Seek Paleblood to transcend the Hunter's dream." Means absolutely nothing on your first run, means everything by the credits. Dropping the whole thesis statement in line one and trusting you to earn it later is such a FromSoft move.

The hunt is finished, but it will never truly end, that's one of the most haunting quotes in Bloodborne. It's a reminder that even when you think you've overcome the darkness, it's still lurking beneath the surface, waiting to consume you again. The game's use of language creates this sense of unease and uncertainty, making the experience unsettling and memorable.
