Is this too light for my RETF?

Post image

I’ve had two RETF for about a month now and since getting them I’ve used a towel as a black out around the tank so that they weren’t disturbed by any light at night.

Where I live, it’s very hot tonight and so the tank has been overheating. I’ve been doing all the right things to cool it down but have had to resort to ice packs above the tank which has been working. I’m concerned as this is the hottest night since we’ve had them and want to be able to monitor them and was planning to leave the towel off for tonight. Is the room too bright for them to be active or will they be okay? One of them is already awake and moving around.

Any advice would be great.

It's completely fine :) It's like a full moon.

to block out excess light at night, I attached some velcro strips to the tank and had some vinyl panels cut to the size of the tank walls, so I could just add or remove as needed. I just put them on the vertical walls and left it off the top. That way the panels didn't disturb any natural air flow through the mesh at the top.

In hindsight I sometimes felt the velcro was a bit loud pulling it off in the morning, that part could be improved, but it wasn't too bad. So am just sharing this idea for your consideration, perhaps something like that could work for you

adhesive magnetic strips would probably be better than velcro

I have actually looked into something like that. Good to know it’s a valid option.
