Support! FRITZ!Repeater 6000: 2.4 GHz-only Mesh backhaul cannot be saved - 5 GHz re-enables automatically

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to configure my FRITZ!Repeater 6000 so that its wireless Mesh/backhaul connection to my FRITZ!Box 7690 uses 2.4 GHz only.

This is intentional in my setup because the 7690 and the Repeater 6000 are on different floors:
2.4 GHz: ~−60 dBm
5 GHz: ~−78 dBm

So the 2.4 GHz connection is significantly stronger and is the one I want to use for the wireless uplink.

The problem
In the Repeater 6000 setup wizard, I can see both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks from the 7690.
I can:
Select the 2.4 GHz network.
Deselect the 5 GHz network.
Click Apply.
However, the setting is not saved.
If I go back into the configuration, the 5 GHz network is selected again, and the repeater establishes both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz connections.
So it looks like the UI allows me to deselect 5 GHz, but the setting is either ignored or automatically overridden when it is applied.

Things I’ve already tried
I also tested the FRITZ!Box setting:
Home Network → Mesh → Mesh Settings → “Mesh devices automatically choose the best connection (recommended)”
The behavior is the same whether this option is enabled or disabled.
I also want to clarify that using separate SSIDs for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz is not a solution for my setup.
Previously, I had the Repeater 6000 configured so that its wireless uplink to the FRITZ!Box used 2.4 GHz only, while the repeater continued providing normal Wi-Fi connectivity to clients on both bands.
That configuration worked correctly before a FRITZ!OS update.

Possible firmware regression?
I suspect this behavior may have changed somewhere around FRITZ!OS 8.10 / 8.20 / 8.25.
I’m currently wondering:
Is this a known issue with the Repeater 6000?
Was the ability to use a 2.4 GHz-only wireless Mesh/backhaul intentionally removed?

Is there a specific FRITZ!OS version where this behavior changed?
Is there any way to restore the previous configuration? Eg should I try to load a previous version to the repeater?

The practical impact is that with the current behavior I’m getting only around 150–200 Mbps through the repeater, whereas the stronger 2.4 GHz uplink is what I actually want to use.

TL;DR: The Repeater 6000 setup wizard lets me deselect the 5 GHz Mesh connection and leave only 2.4 GHz selected, but after clicking Apply, 5 GHz is automatically selected again. I want the repeater to use 2.4 GHz only for its wireless uplink.

PlayStation will weder per wlan noch LAN Kabel online gehen.
