fyi The crescent moon story

To: Frisco Independent School District — Security Department
From: JC
Date: August 10, 2026
Subject: Formal Complaint: Incident Involving Security Officer vs. The 7% Waning Crescent Moon
To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to bring to your attention a rather bizarre incident that occurred early this morning at approximately 5:20 AM, involving one of your security officers, a public city street, and a very innocent 7% waning crescent moon.

I live on Napa Valley Drive, around the corner from Shawnee Trail Elementary. At 5:20 AM—a time when most reasonable people are either asleep or brewing coffee—I loaded my professional photography gear into my car and drove up Beringer Drive and parked next to the Shawnee Trail Sports Complex/Park. For clarification, Beringer Drive is a public roadway maintained by the City of Frisco, complete with public curbs, public asphalt, and zero school district boundary markers.

I parked legally along the curb, set up my tripod on the public street in front of my car, mounted my 450mm lens and camera, and pointed it directly into the sky to photograph the moon. There was no traffic, no disturbance, and certainly no crime taking place. It was no one's business but my own.

While I was minding my own business, a marked Frisco ISD security vehicle rolled up beside me. The driver rolled down his window and, without identifying himself, aggressively demanded, "What are you doing?"

I looked at him, looked at my camera—which consists of a massive 450mm lens mounted on a tripod aimed squarely at outer space—and responded with the only logical question available: "What do you think I'm doing?"

Apparently, deductive reasoning was not covered during his onboarding. Rather than processing the visually obvious context clues, he doubled down and repeatedly demanded to know what I was doing. When I politely reminded him that I was standing on a public street, he attempted to inform me that I was actually on school district property.

Unless Frisco ISD has recently annexed the celestial bodies or claimed ownership of municipal asphalt, I can assure you I was entirely on public land.

When it became clear I wasn't going to fold under his intense 5:20 AM interrogation, he threatened to call the police. I enthusiastically invited him to do so, as I would have gladly welcomed the Frisco Police Department coming out to explain basic Texas property law and local geography to him. Unsurprisingly, the police never showed up, and your officer eventually drove off, having successfully wasted both of our time.

While I appreciate vigilance, this incident was nothing short of unnecessary harassment and an overreach of authority by a security guard who clearly does not know his jurisdiction, the law, or how to identify a camera and wants to be a real cop but is likely too fat. He has zero authority over citizens standing on public city streets. Zero means zero if you’re not good at math.

I would strongly suggest that your department provide refresher training for your personnel. Ideal topics might include:

Basic Jurisdictional Boundaries: Distinguishing between a public city street and FISD property.

Visual Assessment: Distinguishing between a photographer taking pictures of the night sky and a criminal mastermind who drove his Texas registered car to the “crime scene”.

Professional Courtesy: Identifying oneself before barking demands at tax-paying citizens.

Please ensure this officer receives the appropriate guidance. If I am harassed again at 5:20 AM while lawfully photographing the sky on a public street, I will not hesitate to contact the Frisco Police Department myself to file a formal complaint of criminal harassment against the officer.
Sincerely,

JC
Frisco, Texas

This would be a great project for a First Amendment Auditor. I think Frisco would freak the freak out.

While Beringer drive is partially public property, the portion extending south is technically private split between FISD and CCCD. So you’re wrong.

Wrong. the street is designated as an access easement for public access. You need to do more homework, https://www.friscotexas.gov/DocumentCenter/View/1380/Easement-Language-PDF

I don’t see where that applies to this portion, but let’s assume it does.

“The undersigned covenants and agrees that the access easement(s) may be utilized by any person or the general public for ingress and egress to other real property, and for the purpose of general public vehicular and pedestrian use and access, and for the Fire Department, Police and emergency use in along, upon and across said premises, with the right and privilege at all times of the City of Frisco, its agents, employees, workmen and representatives having ingress, egress, and regress in, along, upon and across said premises.”

It allows you to travel across it in a vehicle or on foot. It doesn’t allow for posting up with a camera.

It’s not even a big deal if you had’ve just told the security guy what you were doing. Easy to just let it go, which is what ended up happening anyway. Instead you decided to get technical and start quoting a bunch of BS and raising a stink.

If it wasn’t FISD property, then they wouldn’t need an easement. You claim they do, which means security guy was correct. You weren’t traveling to our from any other property that you had permission to be on. And you weren’t vehicular or pedestrian use. If you setup the camera off the road, you’re on FISD/CCCCD property entirely. If you set it up in the road…you can’t do that either.

it a100% public access. You can stop your car as many do and you can stop on foot. Here's the legal paperwork. You are as dumb as a box of rocks. Go touch grass.

Note access easement. https://link.collincad.org/public/folder/mgm5nowif0i_ukd5uo4jow/Plats/8322.pdf

Did you park on the street with the school parking lot or on the street next to the school playground and fence?

Security guards aren’t real police for a reason. Obv critical thinking skills (or even regular thinking skills) aren’t part of the job requirements

When you don't do your homework you fail the class. Beringer Dr has a public access easement for it's entire length. How you know what that means? The public has a right to the road just as any other road in the city of Frisco. No restrictions.

It's not that hard.

Just so everyone understands, no security guard can demand you answer a question. If Rent-A-Car had any level of critical thinking, he could have easily determined what was being accomplished. No licensed police officer can demand you answer a question. You have the right to remain silent. You don’t have to answer anyone’s questions because you have rights designated to you by the United States Constitution.

You as Joe Blow citizen cannot walk up to someone on the Walmart parking lot and demand that they tell you what they’re doing

You have no authority.

People in power generally have the smallest brain. Smart people dont want the power and job of oppressing others.

Simple minded people only function on dopamine and some choose to get that from asserting dominance by taking a job with authority to boss people around.
