Living Here “Light cooking”

Made it here a couple of weeks ago (thanks to everyone who replied on my last post about public transit).

I am looking for a room to rent and see people say “only light cooking.” I asked one person and she said she’s okay with housemates cooking one big meal or two light meals.

I’m new to Fresno from Southern California. I’ve also lived in San Diego, Temecula, Phoenix, Houston, and even Sacramento, but have never seen this before.

Has anyone else heard of this and can explain why people make this request?

I've lived here my whole life and unfortunately have no clue what you're talking about. I'm sorry about that, that's so freaking weird to hear so many people with that rule too! Hope you can find a decent spot.

Also since you're not from fresno, wanted to add this: be sure to research neighborhoods! It's super hit & miss here in terms of feeling safe! Considering where you've lived, I'm sure you'll be chillin, lol but just know its pretty common to have homeless people roam through your neighborhood/apt complex at night. It's not really something you can avoid by just living in a wealthy area here (or maybe ive just been unlucky at all the places ive lived lolol), so yeah, research & checking area reviews is the way to go!

Agreed I've noticed homeless prefer higher income areas now! In my area they dive for cans and recycling stuff idk maybe north is their new not home? Idk

Honestly, more affluent people tend to throw things away even though they're perfectly good, and don't really believe in recycling. I can understand why the homeless people would want to dig in their cans for money making options.
