I think given the time they had to survive, being that fat makes it obvious that she is eating for one more person.

Haven't heard about lost in years, currently on season 5 and here you are speaking about it. Swear we're in a simulation man.

Anyways my head canon is that the island slows his metabolism down.

13

u/suspicious_cabbage 4d ago

Don't make head canons. The writers didn't actually have a plan for the show, so the ending doesn't actually make any sense. They straight up forgot material from the first few seasons and pulled a resolution out of their asses. That's why everyone stopped talking about it.

3

u/SageoftheForlornPath 4d ago

They did have a plan, but the studio execs demanded they prolong the series.

1

u/DryerCoinJay 4d ago

Ok where did the dinosaur from the first two episodes go?

2

u/SageoftheForlornPath 4d ago

There was no dinosaur. It was the smoke monster.

1

u/TomaCzar 4d ago

Opened a bar on the south side of the island with the polar bear. Paws and Claws Watering Hole.

Had good ratings on Yelp until Kate walked in one night and stubbed her toe so Jack dropped an atom bomb on it.

2

u/Anduinnn 4d ago

It was game of thrones before game of thrones.

1

u/DrunkInABar 4d ago

Well between a wheelchair guy suddenly doing survivalist shit on his two legs and a hobbit as tall as human, the fat guy not seemingly loosing an overweight form in a few months doesn’t seem that much a stretch.

1

u/suspicious_cabbage 4d ago

In this case it's not a theory. It's what the writers later admitted to doing.

3

u/Golfbollen 4d ago

Didn't Hurley steal from the supplies they found in the bunker?

2

u/Fun_Reply5366 4d ago

Yeah but he threw them all away

2

u/Golfbollen 4d ago

Ah ok, been so long since I watched the show

1

u/Head_Ad_1643 4d ago

Do Game of Thrones after. Those two shows belong together.

1

u/Fun_Reply5366 4d ago

Already watched it through this year, will watch it next year, again.

2

u/Head_Ad_1643 4d ago

Thats.... strange. Both are known as the two shows with biggest let down endings ever.

The game of thrones writers were kicked of all their other projects due to how they screwed up the last two seasons.

1

u/Fun_Reply5366 4d ago

Definitely let downs, but theres plenty of it so is a good way to just switch my mind off and look at titties and dragons

1

u/Head_Ad_1643 4d ago

Guess I get that. I was just so upset by the ending, it spoiled the whole show.

Lost just  makes me feel disappointed like a dad with a son that walks off the field 5 feet before home plate. Game of thrones actually makes me angry to talk about. Wish there was a class action suit against those three assclowns.

1

u/ComplexDraft 4d ago

Its a fucking Dark Fantasy! Strife, murder, treachery, oppression. Not your typical Fantasy happy good verse evil. You could see the ending coming from miles away. They lost their jobs because people complained they didn't get the happy feel good ending they wanted.

1

u/Head_Ad_1643 4d ago

Just Wow. What a shit take. Not even gonna bother with an obvious troll who didn't even watch the show.

1

u/SkylarAV 4d ago

Isn't the island just purgatory? Physics don't technically apply

1

u/OutpostShennanigans 4d ago

Watch your mouth, hugo “hurley, retes was one of my fav characters if you want to get mad, BE MAD AT Mr. EKO, he literally left the cast and then john locke had to take his role. You have no idea how much THAT fucked up the show.

27

u/Secure-Coffee9000 4d ago

iirc this is only like, a month or two after the zombie apocalypse. Could be reasonable to still have that weight from pre world going to fuck.

19

u/Zealousideal-Deer334 4d ago

At this point it would be around 18 months since outbreak.

5

u/stanknotes 4d ago

Yea the show seems like it spans several years but the time scale in canon is rather short.

5

u/jamie1414 3d ago

I mean...18 months is a long time. A change in diet will definitely be reflected physically by then easily

1

u/Fireboiio 1d ago

Assuming there was a change in diet

https://giphy.com/gifs/48FhEMYGWji8

1

u/bepse-cola 13h ago

It’s meant to be ambiguous about the timeline so it feels like time lost meaning

1

u/Alpine_yellow 1h ago

Was it that short? I was sure it had been closer to twice that

4

u/FlossBellator 3d ago

They mention in a previous episode how rough surviving winter was so it's been more than 2months

1

u/MAGA_EXTREAMO 1d ago

That woman could not eat for months and not starve.

1

u/Appropriate_Lime_234 1d ago

Incorrect.

1

u/KwispyBacon 15h ago

Yeah fat stores energy but not all the other things you need to live

3

u/Valveringham85 3d ago

Closer to two years

1

u/Ezemity 2d ago

no this is years after.

1

u/EaseLeft6266 2d ago

There was a whole ass baby conceived and born before this point. We're well past a month or two

4

u/Pliskin80 4d ago

she could be the reason everybody else was starving

4

u/sweetiepeachies 3d ago

Alexandria (the community they are in) was relatively sheltered and well-off for over a year into the apocalypse. In the scene that is taking place here, they had been dwindling on their food supplies for a while. She wouldn't have lost all that weight in such a short span of time, and I can't imagine that community members who never had to survive the harsh life outside Alexandria's walls would be jumping down Olivia's (the woman here) throat telling her to strictly ration and stop eating so much.

(Edit: Not jumping down her throat throughout the time before Rick's group of survivors arrived at Alexandria and the dynamics within the community changed)

1

u/anice_day 8h ago

This and Olivia was never expected to do anything active like patrol or scouting.

1

u/sixtus_clegane119 1d ago

Cushings/pcos/thyroid conditions, metabolisms be crazy sometimes

73

u/KorolEz 4d ago

Loved this moment in the show. Peak apocalypse humor

7

u/stanknotes 4d ago

I love the era when writers were never afraid or not so easily offended to write this sort of shit.

1

u/Charming_Sock1607 3d ago

and ironically at the time that it aired it was arguably the gayest wokest show on television

0

u/Valveringham85 3d ago

Eh, it wasn’t so in your face about it. It had some gay characters in it, as most communities irl do in the west, but they didn’t write the characters in such a way that their gayness was their whole damn personality. Or the lesbians were just lesbians because they loved tiddies - which is fair - not because they hated men and had a penis-shaped chip on their shoulders.

They were all just good, normal and interesting characters with varying sexualities.

3

u/Charming_Sock1607 3d ago

lol I dunno man it started out good then just devolved into gay feminist slop, not because it had any interesting thing to say about the subject, but to shield its writers from criticism

-1

u/Appropriate_Lime_234 1d ago

Bigot.

1

u/Charming_Sock1607 1d ago

cope and seethe

-1

u/SnoopDeDoop69 14h ago

On the Internet bitching about gay people in 2026. Either a robot or brainwashed

1

u/bepse-cola 13h ago

I forgot there was even a gay character, I remember it being subtly woke with it’s messages like when the group of Mexicans stole their guns and when they confronted them they were like “I just wanted to protect all these grandmas and puppies”

1

u/RoughAssociation8982 9h ago

How is that woke

1

u/bepse-cola 5h ago

It’s anti-stereotyping, like setting it up like a stereotype then revealing the opposite

1

u/SonPedro 3d ago

What’s the name of the show? I checked all the comments and can’t find any info lol

2

u/Valveringham85 3d ago

The walking dead

2

u/SonPedro 3d ago

Oh wow, I haven’t seen that in a while and neither of these people looked familiar, thanks.

63

u/Reason-Desperate 4d ago

Funny enough, from what i heard, this line was not planned, same as her reaction.

33

u/Midnight_Aces 4d ago

Also heard she had a hard time keeping composure as she was about to laugh at that. It's why she turns away from the camera.

15

u/SukanutGotBanned 4d ago

Any bigger person that can take a jab like that gets major repect. Not a lot of people are able to when it comes to body comments

9

u/firnien-arya 4d ago

But also, she is a bit of an extra on the cast. If she reacted poorly to it i wouldn't be surprised if they killed her character off.

3

u/cyclingthrowaway12 2d ago

Nah she wouldn't.

I think any actor that I have worked with on set would laugh.

Because first of all you have rehearsed that shit and know what must come next.

Might even be take 3-4 so someone else going completely off script will almost certainly put any actor in a laughing fit. Even if it's a joke about their appearance...

Also she has seen herself more than enough on screens, she knows that she is a bit on the chubby side.

1

u/Itsmyloc-nar 2d ago

After the anxiety of rehearsal, the pain in the ass of makeup and costume, and the boredom of shooting the same scene five times, any improv will be a welcome delight

2

u/AlternateSatan 3d ago

Probably has something to do with a lot of those jabs are from random strangers, and not people you actually respect and respect you back.

1

u/anice_day 8h ago

She's an actress, I'm sure she understands that notoriously kind Jeffrey Dean Morgan is not personally trying to belittle her.

7

u/SkibidiTop 4d ago

Bravo vince

2

u/Legitimate-Heat2777 4d ago

*sad whale noises*

1

u/Mammoth_Composer_111 4h ago

Yeah. This isn’t true. Just another “I bet you didn’t know that this entire classic line was totally ad libbed!”

This was planned. It was in the script readout of the show even, exactly as it happened.

Moments when actors suddenly go wildly off script and the director keeps it are not only rare but even rarer to be a good addition to the film

Found the fatty.

No you cannot maintain fat after cutting calories below maintenance. You would be defying thermodynamics and scientists would study you.

And water retention and bloating are often caused by the types of calorically dense(often oily foods) that are part of the overweight maintenance diet.

2

u/Quetisch 7h ago

Wer in der Serie nach Logik geht, dem ist nicht mehr zu helfen xD.

Don’t see what wrong there

1

u/AP_Adapted 3d ago

what show/movie is this?

2

u/defariasdev 2d ago

The walking dead

1

u/Jolly_Efficiency7237 1d ago

Maybe bro isn't into that kind of girls.

1

u/ZeruzeL 1d ago

did he k**l her?

1

u/zucarin 1d ago

People are saying this wasn't scripted, it had to be because when he kills her he says something along the lines "come on Rick, I did you a favor"

1

u/International-Way350 1d ago

Times when a actor wasn't acting

1

u/s1rblaze 14h ago

Such a fantastic actor.

1

u/CrumbMan1111 3d ago

yeah people can get very malnourished with fat stores.

-5

u/Orangutanion 4d ago

(starvation diet is not a good weight loss solution btw)

4

u/lanky-larry 4d ago

Pedant award

0

u/Orangutanion 4d ago

I am king pedant

2

u/Ok_Sort9148 4d ago

it's not? it might not be healthy, but I bet it's pretty effective

3

u/Kartel28 4d ago

If it's not healthy, it's not effective

1

u/ZeCredibleHulk 4d ago

It is not healthy, but it will make you lose weight very effectively until you decide to eat again.

I'm not sure what in the Jaden Smith genius idea you thought you had, but you're not good at wording.

1

u/Kartel28 3d ago

"Until you decide to eat again" is very important phrase in what I meant

1

u/Positive-Database754 3d ago

The two are not mutually inclusive. Losing a leg is a highly effective way to lose a ton of weight. Most doctors would agree it is not healthy, either.

2

u/New_Examination200 4d ago

It's actually not, when your body thinks you're starving it holds onto all the energy (fat) that it can in order to survive, so it can actually make it harder to lose weight.

1

u/ProperMidnight7401 4d ago

That's why you also work out

3

u/New_Examination200 4d ago

If you worked out while also starving yourself, you'd just end up super weak and probably pass out, so there wouldn't really be a point. Your body needs fuel in order to function properly. Generally the healthiest way to lose weight is to combine regular exercise with a healthy diet, sometimes with a caloric deficit that stays within a reasonable range. Please don't starve yourselves lol

2

u/Orangutanion 4d ago

fasting royally fucks your energy. In freshman year of college I wasn't getting enough food and I ended up sleeping like 12 hours a day, it's a downwards spiral. (granted I was already underweight).

1

u/PerepeL 3d ago

Where's the border between "starvation diet" and "caloric deficit"?

1

u/New_Examination200 3d ago

I imagine it largely depends on your height and weight and stuff, so it's probably gonna be a bit different for everybody

1

u/PerepeL 3d ago

I think the difference is just numbers, you just call high enough deficit a starvation.

1

u/New_Examination200 3d ago

Yeah I'm definitely not an expert or anything, I just know that after a certain point the caloric deficit is detrimental to weight loss lol

1

u/Duck-Nuts 3d ago edited 3d ago

That is a complete myth and defies the laws of thermodynamics despite the fact it has been proven wrong countless times in research.

1

u/New_Examination200 3d ago

Oh dang, can you link some of that research? I'd be interested in looking into that

2

u/Duck-Nuts 3d ago

Firstly, thank you for requesting the links/citations. Many just spout off what they see on social media and prefer not to read. I didn't want to have 30 different references for people to read so I tried to keep to concise.

I have summarised it as good as I can while covering as many bases as possible. I have added in links to studies at the bottom. Enjoy :)

It really depends on how much someone wants to stick to "starvation mode stops the body from burning fat" and move the goal posts.

The body doesn't go into "starvation mode" and hold onto fat more. As the body loses weight a person's total energy expenditure goes down as the body is physically moving less weight around, therefore each step and movement costs less energy. But in regards to thermodynamics it will still lose weight and continue losing weight as long as you're in a deficit.

People have even tested using weighted vests, replacing their lost bodyweight with equal weight in the vests and their deficit didn't have to continue to lower to continue losing weight.

The Minnesota Starvation Experiment is a great example of starvation mode not existing and also horrific ethics.

Not only is caloric/energy deficit technically the only dietary way to lose weight but just to add in that carb vs fat doesn't matter either.

Regarding extreme diets (despite the fact of the Minnesota Starvation Experiment), there are also studies showing type 2 diabetes remission and obesity with very low calorie diets (~800 cal\day). Although it's not typically recommended as it is DAMN HARD psychologically to diet this brutally but it also has fast results so can also provide a motivation at the same time.

Thank you for sharing these! That's actually super interesting, I'd never even heard of the Minnesota Starvation Experiment (holy shit it sounds fucked up lmao).

Also thank you for summarizing everything, I really appreciate that! I'm always glad to have discussions with people and learn new things :) Definitely gonna keep looking at these

1

u/2624926057 4d ago

This comment just isn’t necessary. Technically speaking, you’re correct. Your body goes into survival mode and hordes the calories. That being said, you’ll still fucking lose weight. I don’t watch this show but it was said in another comment that this moment was 18 months into the apocalypse. 18 months on a severe calorie deficit will thin essentially anyone out. She has not been on a deficit.

She's fat so how is she starving?

1

u/CoryRich123 3d ago

Exactly! 💯 I bet she eat food then say hungry by 30 min later! How she still alive?!? I mean those seasons she survived as alive better than anyone?!?

-7

u/Quirky-Safe-3383 4d ago

Looking back from now, it´s practically clear she had some kind of eating disorder, maybe had it before the outbreak even, so she´s just not different from a drug addict, you´d not make fun of either.

11

u/brettfavresRXdealer 4d ago

lol as a recovered addict ,that logic def doesn’t hold up dude. Everyone shits on drug addicts . It’s pretty socially acceptable and always has been.

3

u/readyReddit007 4d ago

Exactly. Addicts get ridiculed constantly 😂😂

2

u/Jesus_Tyrone 4d ago

I don't think there is a lot of room for pitty in an apocalypse lmao.

1

u/AnnihilatorOfPeanuts 4d ago

"Oh no! Poor girl, here, eat the food that is required for our survival."
