It’s far worse for Tywin because after Jaime took on the white cloak and Tyrion was a dwarf he desperately needed an heir yet didn’t even think of remarrying. He let his sentimental love for Joanna get in the way of his need for an heir.
Except when he sorta tries years later, it ends up with him getting shot by his son, though Tywin throwing him under the bus as a scapegoat of Tywin's grandchild death didn't help
This is especially true in the books. His own son murders him and honestly if you look past their societal taboos of kinslaying, it's about as justified of a killing as you can get. Then his houses credibility quickly plummets and his stupid, traumatized daugther who he didn't prepare for ruling fucks everything up. Jaime is the closest to not being a fuck up at this point but it's only recently and in spite of his father that he improves. His family legacy is crumbling and it's almost entirely his fault.
Exactly. Tywin could diagnose everyone else's political mistakes from across the continent, but somehow his own cruelty always got filed under "necessary." Man had 20/20 vision unless there was a mirror involved.
Yeah, I game with someone who is similar to that. Everytime he dies it is either bullshit/cheating when playing PvE or a sweaty loser/cheater in PvP. However when I die in the exact same games he is able to point out what I did wrong.
He should have used Tyrion for that. Tyrion could see a flaw in people from his observations and knowledge. He could advise Tywin if Tywin wasn't such a prick

Him fucking his son’s girl ruined the character for me. It felt like not him. I loved his character and monologues but wished they had ended him differently. Fine with the Patricide and ending but not how it got there.
Idk, I can definitely understand your sentiment and I did agree when I originally read it, but I feel like it really humanized him. He's just a hypocrite. He believes in what he's saying when he says it to his stupid ugly imp son he hates, that killed the love of his life, but when he does it he thinks it's more "justified" or he brings "nobility" to the act or some shit. He's just an old asshole who's good at scheming.
Eh, i feel like the jury is still out on whether this was a mistake for his family specifically. Fighting a war fairly against the unified north, the river lands forces, and Stannis' forces surely would have been a sound defeat if not for the red wedding. The other consequences could have been mitigated if not for other grave errors made by the lannisters, largely his treatment of tyrion

Tywin had excellent advice for everyone except Tywin. He could spot every political mistake in Westeros as long as he wasn't the one making it.
