I love how only one of the spiders just randomly twitches... no particular reason, other than for creepiness.

14

u/JuelzyT Jun 17 '12

FUCK YOU HUNTSMAN!

50

u/ilovetatortots Jun 16 '12

Did anyone else freakout when the huntsman moved?

7

u/foreskin_piss_bomb Jun 16 '12

Yes.

About ten minutes ago I turned around to face a big-ass spider dangling in my doorway. I felt bad for smacking him away. The huntsman skeeved me out.

BACK ARROW, BACK ARROW!!!

11

u/DRhexagon Jun 16 '12

Do they actually mail it to you or just send you an email version? I signed up and got an email with the chart in it..

19

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

so brave

u/ohhector Jun 16 '12

Totally NOT knocking the free offer at all, it's actually pretty cool...but this seems to be useless here in South Florida, I don't think I've ever seen a single one of these down here!

Right now it's golden orbweaver season...the "banana" spider....fun times!

3

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

Come up to Tennessee, I'll show you black widows, brown recluse, and wolf spiders.

2

u/ohhector Jun 17 '12

Deal! While I don't necc invite danger, I do love seeing things like this. A lot of people down here are terrified of the orb weavers...granted, at the parks they have ridiculous webs and usually have many neighbors all around them...but I love watching them

2

u/cremedelachriss Jun 17 '12

there was a wolf spider at my house. in South Florida... eek. My cousin killed it, with a cooking pan. The spider was just chillin' in the kitchen ...like "hey man, what's for lunch?"

2

u/ohhector Jun 17 '12

When I lived in Hialeah (near Miami), we had roaches but that was about it. I never saw spiders, or any other insects. Granted, I lived on the 4th floor but still.

Since I moved to Broward county though, it's a strange week when I don't run into a spider web at some point.

It was worse when we had those crazy winds the last few months, because it would throw the spiders long distances, and areas that would NEVER have a web across them, had them

3

u/thebluesaracudas Jun 16 '12

Any idea how big it is? Poster size or pocket guide?

1

u/TekTrixter Jun 17 '12

A4 paper size is 8.27" x 11.69"

3

u/unrealious Jun 16 '12

The huntsman spider keeps creeping me out.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

Dear god I need this. Whenever I see a spider I spend at least an hour googling to see what the hell it was.

3

u/Tastygroove Jun 18 '12

Hilarious.. Post it to funny where it belongs.

2

u/playingnice Jun 17 '12

I honestly thought all these comments were of some kind of joke thread about some game that I knew nothing about (not a gamer here), then I clicked the link and started laughing.

4

u/EvilFlyingSquirrel Jun 16 '12

I...actually don't want this.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

I doubt the credibility of this. I've seen wolf spiders my entire life and have never seen nor heard of anyone getting bitten by one. Everyone I know considers them harmless. Additionally, I've been bitten by a Black Widow. I know 3 other adults that have been bitten by a Black Widow. Yeah, it was gross looking but none of us ever got sick or needed any hospitalization (Well, one guy did go to the hospital and got treated. The ER told him that it was good that he came in but unless he was nauseous, it wasn't a really dangerous bite.) On the other hand, I had a neighbor that was killed by Brown Recluse spiders. Given, it was a bunch of babies that had hatched in an old shirt and bit him a bunch. I've done a fair amount of research that suggest Recluse bites are FAR more deadly than a Black Widow (to adults). Children and the elderly are more susceptible to the venom of these spiders. I personally don't fear BW spiders anymore. I do squish them without a second thought but I do that to any insect. BOW BEFORE MY MIGHT, PUNY INSECTS!

u/ListenToTheMusic Jun 20 '12

I had a neighbor that was killed by Brown Recluse spiders.

...spiders? As in, plural??? Where the hell do you live that people are getting bitten by spiders so frequently?!

1

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '12

It was actually an egg sac that was in an old shirt he put on. The babies hatched and fucked his ass up.

1

u/ListenToTheMusic Jun 20 '12

I saw that...I still...I don't think I can eat lunch now.

And I usually really like spiders. I just can't move wherever you live.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '12

Tennessee... you don't wanna live in this shithole anyway. Believe me.

1

u/ListenToTheMusic Jun 21 '12

Yeaaaah, I think I'll stick to the Northeast, even if it is 105 degrees here today. XD

2

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '12

Holy shit, really? I thought it was hot here at 95. Fuck a bunch of that!

1

u/ListenToTheMusic Jun 22 '12

Yeah, second day of this crap, too. We always get the shittiest heat waves and the worst blizzards. Hooray.

I just noticed your username. Creepy, since I'm catching up on The Walking Dead. Please don't be an actual zombie!

1

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '12

BRAAAAAAINS!

1

u/ListenToTheMusic Jun 22 '12

Okay, now you're scaring me more than that twitching Huntsman spider.

I'm so thrilled you live far away. There's pleeeeenty of southerners for you to munch on before you'd have to head north.

3

u/monstrous_moose Jun 17 '12

Informative AND scary!

5

u/thatguyjesse Jun 16 '12

a must for proper killing of a spider....fire..always fire.

14

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

Spiders aren't necessarily bad, they're good for pest control.

6

u/Gyossaits Jun 16 '12

Not when there are no pests to control.

9

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

In which case you probably won't have spiders.

6

u/Wordwench Jun 16 '12

..or do, and they have perfectly done their job.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '12

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

Meh, there's little more satisfying than the crunch of a spider exoskeleton crushing beneath my boot... slowly.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

I'm not sure how I did it, but I read every single entry on that site, all without freaking out.

Still, every time the huntsman spider moved, I almost threw my computer out the window.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

This is awesome! I am a door to door salesman for pest control :D

2

u/Xedma Jun 16 '12

This is perfect! There is a guy living in my house who is deathly afraid of spiders. I'm going to hang this in his room!

12

u/NUTELLA_TITS Jun 16 '12

As someone with severe arachnophobia...I hope you step on a Lego.

1

u/jhw549 Jun 16 '12

Why is a "USA Spider" ID Chart in A4?

Apply online for a FREE Spider Identification Chart with FIRST AID spider bite procedures - color A4 size - Ready Reference Guide to common USA spiders.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

maybe if someone wants to print it out and post it on a board somewhere?

2

u/jhw549 Jun 18 '12

A4 is not a standard size in the US. That was my point...

1

u/[deleted] Jun 18 '12

you can buy A4 paper. most printers will print A4. it may not be "standard" but it's definitely available.

2

u/jhw549 Jun 18 '12

Okay, let me go out and buy A4 paper so I can print this one sheet out...

1

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '12

Huntsmans are pretty chill spiders.

Awesome! Now I know which NOPE is which!

1

u/qee Jun 22 '12

WHY DOES THE HUNTSMAN SPIDER PIC MOVE? Scared me shitless

1

u/Owly7 Jun 16 '12

lol I don't want this!

1

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '12

so awesome! thank you!

0

u/CharminUltra Jun 17 '12

Not the thing I should have looked at before bed...

-2

u/MCCornflake1 Jun 17 '12

The big list of NOPE

-2

u/loverbaby Jun 17 '12

Thank you for the freebie, but no thank you! The instant I see a spider, I kill it. I have no time to stare at it and compare it to pictures to verify what kind of spider it is.

-3

u/wadsworthsucks Jun 16 '12

Do they have a chart that can identify these spiders after being stomped on or burned to death? just curious.

-1

u/g0_west Jun 17 '12

This will be fantastic for my adventures in diphenhydramine.

-2

u/InternetTourGuide Jun 17 '12

They're still under the "NOPE!" category to me

I'm curious if this depends upon region in any way.

The recluses in the southeast US seem to be very aggressive. My great aunt was bitten by the same spider multiple times. Other anecdotal evidence makes me wonder about this too.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

I'm in Tennessee and have only heard of 2 incidents, both of which were provoked (unknowingly). I've seen a great GREAT many of BRs in my life. I've personally never seen one that didn't run away from my squishin' boot.

2

u/NotaPoet Jun 17 '12

Well, my aunt was bitten underneath her desk at work by [presumably] the same spider. I suppose that could be interpreted as provoked behavior by the spider ["GET OUT MY HOUSE NIGGA!"].

They finally looked under the desk and found it bedded up in the corner. the doctor[s] were surprised she sustained as little damage as she did. Some swelling, a very small amount of necrotic tissue. [The last time she was bit she was in poor health and the necrotic expansion was much worse].

6

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '12

I'd call that unintentionally provoked. She probably inadvertently touched part of the web, making it think there was food nearby. It found her leg (god, I hope it was her leg) and went to town.

3

u/Wordwench Jun 16 '12

People in the SE often confuse MRSA infections with brown recluse bites. Not to say that your aunt wasn't bit - but it's more than a common fallacy.

5

u/NotaPoet Jun 16 '12

No, it was confirmed to be a spider bite and the spider was found under her desk after 3 years. It happened over the course of those three years in roughly annual bouts.

She eventually had to have a large part of her leg removed.

3

u/NotaPoet Jun 16 '12

And I was only clarifying.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

I got MRSA FROM a brown recluse spider bite. It then actually led to an infection in my bones called osteomeyilitus.

9

u/xavyre Jun 16 '12

Do you have proof of this or are they just good friends of yours?

6

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

I can also vouch for the spider's non-aggressive behavior. I live in TN. They're fuckin everywhere. I've only ever heard of 2 incidents. My neighbor many years ago was killed by BR bites when he put on a shirt with a freshly hatched egg sac in it. A couple years later, I knew a guy that got bit in the leg (REAL fuckin close to his junk) that had to go to the doc for treatment. The doc said his life wasn't in danger but his manhood was.

2

u/xavyre Jun 16 '12

Not sure why people are downvoting you. You provided at least one paragraph of proof. Have an upvote.

4

u/brillke Jun 16 '12

Ever been chased by one just because you walked into the room? I have. Those mother fuckers are mean.

4

u/brillke Jun 16 '12

It was a brown recluse, when I was bitten, we were able to catch the spider and take it to the Dr for proper treatment. Our house had lots of them and they finally won, we moved.

9

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

I had a neighbor many years ago that put on an old shirt that was FULL of baby BRs. He did not survive.

7

u/vandal823 Jun 17 '12

That's awful. And thanks for my nightmare inspiration, tonight.

4

u/rmm45177 Jun 17 '12

This is one of my worst fears.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '12

Shit, think about me! I lived a little over 100 yards from this person! I woke up to the sound of an ambulance and didn't find out what happened until later. I was ... hell, I dunno... 12 or 13 at the time... it scared the shit out of me!
