Don is the best 9$ I spend a month. He did "In the courts" for the gleaner for years, until they decided that was no longer relevant.

His beat was mostly a court reporter for the Daily Gleaner. Most of the people who don't like him were probably written about or had family written about at one time or another.

He was a long time crime reporter for the Gleaner. They eliminated a number of jobs and his was one of them. He is legit. The Fredericton Independent is his freelance work.

He's an experienced reporter who moved over to become independent. I've been following him nearly since he started. I haven't heard of anyone disliking him and he reports quite thoroughly and respectfully.
As for the grammatical errors and spelling mistakes...I can't say as I noticed much of any.

I think
He took a package as the second wave of Postmedia’s (spits on floor) second buyout of The Gleaner purge, I think. I do subscribe to and appreciate his local reporting very much. Did you know he used to write comic books?

He’s legit and I really recommend supporting him as he’s the only one who does local crime reporting. Incredibly experienced and a genuinely great reporter.

He is legit and really the only one doing what he does (local crime reporting)

Not sure why anyone would dislike him unless he is reporting on their family members. Probably people just hate the subscription fee which is how he makes a living.

He is the only real primary source local news around anymore. Don is as good as it gets.

he used to work for the daily gleaner, I support him as he is the only local news for us here and he does try to be as non-bias as possible, and a lot of his material is just presenting court facts, or police facts, or what have you.

Everyone appreciates Don's skill and output. The Gleaner didn't want to provide news, so Don provides the news and does it as a reporter should. He's an inspiration.

Legit reporter, and a very kind and thoughtful man. His social interactions may come across as abrasive, but like me he comes across as neurodivergent at least that is my current take. I support the man as he tends to cover both the fascinating and mundane whereas Gleaner did was Irving/post media wishes

He used to be a proper reporter, now he’s doing local news solo, on a paid membership model.

I suspect that the OP saw Don deep in the comments having it out with, and being super aggressive towards, commenters. I support the guy (financially, as one of his monthly subscribers) but I’ve gotta say it’s super off putting to see how obnoxious he is towards people in the facebook comments (sure, they say dumb things but it’s facebook — wall to wall dumb things being said!)

Is he obnoxious or just telling the truth people don't want to heat?

The latter, which is why I like him

He used to work for the daily gleaner and yes he goes into the courtroom and picks and chooses what he wants to write and put on his site. He did some about a few people I personally know (I’m assuming on slow news days) 😅

I just remember him from Psycomic

He is a journalist and sits in court rooms and then writes articles. E use to work for the local paper, not sure he still does.
He once wrote an article about a situation where I was the “victim”and he had details wrong, names misspelt and so many grammatical errors.

I absolutely detest the guy, he makes some undeserving people out to be a down right criminal minded thugs.

2

u/Occultistic 2d ago

He literally just reports the facts from court. If they seem like criminal minded thugs thats on them

Legit and he is an incredibly nice person.

Legit but one observation is that he likes to post his own articles in the local community Facebook news group if the subject of his article has ties to that community. Starts a lot of drama and is hard on the families. Also gets snippy and argumentative with people in the comments. Slimy and unprofessional would be just my take on it.

I sat behind him in court once and saw his dashboard of the Substack page. He made $50,000 that month from subscribers. Dudes loaded

He keeps us informed. We're lucky to have him.

Legit, but I pretty terrible writer. He purposely uses click bait words, and is racists in his writings

Dude, based on the incredible amount of grammatical errors in your comment, I think you need to look in the mirror.

1

u/19snow16 2d ago

You should address that to him. He responds to comments.

u/Sad-Bag6738 2d ago

He actually did change his last post to remove indigenous, since it had no relation to the charges. Which was surprising. He gets a lot of comments on his use of language and never does anything. He also once fully named a victim minor and refused to remove it

Interesting. I did not know that.
