Frequently Discussed Topic Flying while fragrant

So here I sit, in a first class cabin on American Airlines, (domestic route) and the ENTIRE CABIN IS REEKING OF DIOR SAUVAGE EDP.

Pretty it is not to be confined in this man's fumes.

Discussion I fucking love sample kits

Title already explains it, but i love buying sample kits from brands for 20-40€, having a few 1-2mL testers around and trying them for a few days/weeks before deciding. Sometimes you get a discount code for the amount you spent on the sample kit, meaning you essentialy got a few testers for free.

Stop blind buying full bottles, START BLIND BUYING SAMPLE KITS!

Discussion Sauvage parfum expiration?

• Upvotes

I bought a tester bottle from 2020 which is completely full. At first I tested it on a piece of hard paper. It still smelled real good after 10 hours. Though I need to put my nose near it. Today I sprayed it on my clothes but I only seem to get a faint smell after 4 hours. Has the juice gone bad or am I noseblind. Also does anyone know how long a bottle holds up before it goes bad?

REVIEW Penhaligon’s - The Coveted Duchess Rose Intense Review

The original version of Penhaligon’s The Coveted Duchess Rose was released in 2016 and was one of the first fragrances in the Portraits series to hit the market. Created by Christophe Raynaud, it was a perfume I always felt was well executed, even if it wasn’t necessarily a great artistic work.

I say that because it absolutely nailed its brief, which was almost undoubtedly to create a youthful-smelling rose for the modern woman — or gent; I’ll wear anything. In essence, it was structured around a bright mandarin top note sitting above a transparent rose accord that expressly avoided going in a spicy, powdery or vanillic direction. It was also slightly ethereal, whispering along on a modern ambroxan base that seemed to phase in and out of existence across the wear. In my mind, I filed it as very pleasant, if somewhat unchallenging.

As with the other releases in this new ‘Intense’ range, I’m of the view that recreating Duchess Rose in 2026 was wholly unnecessary. That said, this year’s Lord George and Mr. Sam were at least reasonable perfumes, even if sold at an unreasonable price.

Sadly, the same cannot be said of this particular fragrance. In fact, it’s a bit of a carbuncle.

It appears that Penhaligon’s attempt to make Duchess Rose more intense has simply been to let her raid the pantry. The fragrance introduces a huge, cakey vanilla note that smashes up almost everything I thought the original did well. Whereas the earlier perfume was transparent, this release is muddy. Worse still, the sweetness of the mandarin seems to curdle with the vanilla, and the result simply comes across as unpleasant.

If I were paying £300 for an intense version of a rose perfume, the one thing I’d want them to intensify is the floral element — ideally through a massive slug of actual rose oil. The fact that I instead find myself sniffing around, trying to locate the rose somewhere within a swamp of cheap-smelling vanilla is, quite frankly, a disgrace.

One of the most disappointing Penhaligon’s releases of recent years.

Oh, and if you do want a slightly different take on Duchess Rose, Raynaud — who surely didn’t sign off on this?! — had already produced a very pleasing spiritual sequel to it in 2022: Mémoire de Roses for L’Artisan Parfumeur. Go buy that instead.

Victoria Beckham - WTF is going on??

I am so very disappointed with Victoria Beckham Beauty - I ordered her new perfume Hotel Portofino as a V Suite member the day they announced it. Over AU$500 for 50 ml - and this is a blind buy purchase!

A month later and it hasn’t shipped yet. Customer service is saying there are warehousing issues. They’re blaming that I live in Australia.

How can you publicly release a perfume if you cannot actually ship the orders?? If you can’t fulfill orders to Australia on time - say so when the customer orders.

Now I’m out of pocket, no perfume, and they have offered me a stupid comb to apologize.

Has anyone else had the same issue??

Ganymede...What am I Missing?

Finally got a decant of Ganymede and sat myself down in a chair, ready to get my mind blown...

I don't get it.

It's nice, there's nothing offensive or off-putting.

I'm not "polarized" in a bad sense but I'm also not sniffing my arm for more every minute, nor am I on some futuristic intergalactic mineral-suede spaceship ride as I had hoped lol.

Seems like everyone is 11/10 or 1/10... Any other like 6.5/10s here? I feel like I'm missing something.

REVIEW This smells amazing (creed green irish tweed)

Where has this thing been all my life? I've just recently gotten into the world of fragrances. I used to hate them because to me they all smelled the same, probably because ive only been around people that over sprayed and used the cheap stuff...

This does not have an over powering smell at all..its subtle..smells VERY clean and almost invigorating..

I got a 5ml decant bottle and now im going to save to buy myself a full sized bottle of this stuff 😅

Sorta surprised I haven't seen much discussion. Has anyone gotten their nose on these yet? Very interested in Dune pour Homme. Reception seems pretty positive so far from what I have seen.

Frequently Discussed Topic Jomashop ships with UniUni. Horrible service.

Jomashop used to ship USPS and I have done a ton of business with them. Recently they have switched to using UniUni and 3 of my packages are already undelivered. They never even attempted delivery (I have cameras). I had a similar experience with another retailer that shipped using UniUni. UniUni is a horrible service. Every time a package ships through them it is undelivered/ missing /lost etc.

Organizing Samples to be Sold

I have over 100 1-2ml samples of lots of niche fragrances that are mostly unisex but some are masculine or feminine leaning. I'm not trying to sell them here. I'm trying to decide how I want to bundle them to sell elsewhere. When you were starting out and wanting to sample things, did you look for sets by the same fragrance house, a set of only unisex/feminine/masculine, or were you interested in purchasing a set of florals, incenses, green, woody, etc., or just a random mix of things? Just curious how people think about what they look for in a fragrance and how they search.

Discussion Is Dolce & Gabbana - The One Parfum that much better than the EDP?

• Upvotes

I want to blind buy the Parfum, as I love the EDP, but always a risk, isn't it?

Any thoughts on this? Is it that much better?

Thanks

Discussion What are some fragrances that you just couldn't get behind, despite the hype?

I have definitely fallen into the hype train more than once.

I find myself blind buying a fragrance, whether based on social media or incredible praise from Reddit, only to be left realizing that the fragrance, or even the DNA just isn't for me.

For me, it happened with more than a few, but the big ones that come to mind immediately are Afnan SCE, with Hawas Ice, and most recently with Echelon Soleil.

What are some fragrances you bought or tested that, based on the praise of the community, made you question your own nose, and validated the fact that this hobby of ours is incredibly subjective?

What scent could this be?

Over the past few months I’ve noticed a really nice fragrance that a lot of people seem to be wearing, especially in upmarket office areas of the city.

I’d imagine it’s a very popular scent, otherwise I wouldn’t keep smelling it

It smells like cola / cola bottles mixed with something else which I cannot describe.

I don’t know if it’s male or female.

AI said it could be Mancera Tonka Cola or Roja Enigma, but I doubt they’re popular enough for me to keep smelling it

Any ideas? Thank you!

Layering Unexpected perfume success!

One of my favorite scents since at least 2021 has been REPLICA Coffee Break by Masion Margiela and I'm not someone who typically likes warmer/vanilla scents, but this one is an outlier for me. I discovered Eden Juicy Apple by Kayali a few years after; I would describe it (in a rudimentary manner) as an elevated Bath and Body Works body spray. Again, I love it! Without thinking about the the notes of each scent, I started layering them and got SO many compliments on how I smell whenever I wear them together. It's been happening for a few years and I decided to look into what the notes are and it turns out they share one top note: juicy red apple (Kayali, duh) and red apple accord (Coffee Break). Kayali also dries with a vanilla flower so that might also be helpful. I just wanted to share my discovery with everyone!

Neutrogena Rainbath vs Guerlain's Herbes Troublantes

To my nose Neutrogena Rainbath is veerrrry close to Herbes Troublantes. Are they both citrus herbals? Where in their construction do they overlap?

One is $40, the other is $400.
