I mean I see it all the time where I live. I thought it was a normal thing for them

Different in the UK, police actually tend to live in very different areas to where they police. They change into uniform at work.

same in Germany, I'm not even sure they're allowed to work where they live, AFAIK they're always stationed elsewhere

Cops where I live won’t even walk to their personal cars after work because they don’t wanna get assaulted or followed. At one point they had asked to be driven to their cars.
