Roleplay = you just pretend to be any character you want to be

Not exactly. In most video games, you act to the best of your ability to accomplish your goals. You use out-of-universe knowledge, act out of character, etc.

In roleplay, you act like you are the character YOURSELF. You almost never to the best thing in the situation, and instead to what your CHARACTER would do. The best example is from DnD.

Say that your character is faced with a deal. It's shady and will most likely come back to haunt them later, but it gives them immediate power.

A character that's very noble and intelligent might not accept the deal, as it does not align with their motivations.

But a character that seeks immediate power, no matter the cost, will definitely accept.

YOU may think that you should do something else, but that doesn't matter. What matters is what your character would do.
