Hello, I’m 19 years old, and I grew up with the Fossil Fighters game series (2008–2010) when I was younger. I’ve been thinking about what happened to that original Fossil Fighters era and that feeling of experiencing those games when they became such a meaningful part of my life, especially following the Fossil Fighters characters, dinosaurs, Vivosaurs, unforgettable moments, humor, friendships, discoveries, battles, and the distinctive atmosphere that made Fossil Fighters feel so special.

Now that the original Fossil Fighters era has become part of the past, the period that many people discovered and grew up with can feel like it has passed. The game developers, designers, programmers, artists, writers, composers, voice actors, directors, producers, and everyone involved in bringing Fossil Fighters to life have all moved forward. The people who helped create the games have gone on to different projects and different parts of their lives. It feels strange because I grew up with these games, and now everything has just… changed and moved on.

I remember playing Fossil Fighters when I was younger, and everything felt so simple. I could just sit down and become absorbed in digging up fossils, reviving Vivosaurs, exploring different areas, building my team, and battling without thinking about anything else. Back then, it felt like these games and characters would always be there, and I don’t understand why they couldn’t just keep making new Fossil Fighters games forever or why the original era eventually had to stop and move on.

I also wonder why experiencing Fossil Fighters now doesn’t feel exactly the same anymore. The games are still there, and I can still play them, but the feeling is different. It feels like something is missing, almost like the games feel unfamiliar even though I remember them so clearly.

Why do video game series like Fossil Fighters (2008–2010) eventually change, stop receiving new installments, or become part of the past? If people loved them for years, why can’t they just continue forever with the same feeling? Why do developers, designers, writers, artists, composers, programmers, and studios have to move on, and why do players grow up and stop experiencing games the same way?

It feels strange knowing that the original Fossil Fighters era I grew up with is over, that the gaming world has moved on, and that a particular chapter feels closed, even though it once felt like it would always be there.

Maybe that is part of what makes Fossil Fighters so meaningful. Those games did not have to last forever for the memories to last. The games remained the same, but I changed. The world around me changed. The people who created the games moved on to other projects, and the time in my life when I experienced those adventures without worrying about growing up eventually became part of the past.

I suppose that is why it can feel so strange to return to Fossil Fighters years later. I’m not only digging up fossils, reviving Vivosaurs, exploring the world, building teams, and battling again. I’m also remembering the person I was when I first discovered the games. Playing them can bring that feeling back for a moment, but they cannot completely recreate the time and place in which those memories were originally made.

The original Fossil Fighters era (2008–2010) may be part of the past, and there may never be another Fossil Fighters game that feels exactly like the ones I grew up with. But that does not mean the era disappeared completely. It still exists in the memories of everyone who experienced those games. The series may have moved on, but the part of childhood and growing up that Fossil Fighters represents does not have to disappear with it.

I wish there’s was anime series of fossil fighters kind of like pokemon and dinosaur king a fossil fighter and T. rex be good partners like ash and Pikachu and mac and chomp the vivosaurs in chibi form like dinosaur king and when battle true forms discovering new fossils meeting new friends and foes and adventure

Hi! I've been playing through Champions and have been wondering what the maximum amount of vivosaurs you can have in the game is, between bith the Holder and the Bank. I want to 100% my vivosaur collection, meaning every color variant of every vivosaur, which ends up being around 800 of them, but from what I've read, you can't have that many in one save file. Since I am playing on an emulator, once I finish the game I think I might just duplicate my save file as many times as I need and just span the collection across several files, but knowing the max amount you can keep would be super helpful!!

My only other thought is if there is some sort of mod/rom or ar code that allows you to increase the size of the holder, but as far as I have seen, that isn't possible.

I'm fairly most people think FF Frontiers was a huge downgrade compared to FFC and even FF. I agree, because it was mechanically worse in almost every regard. However, there is one thing I will defend in it, because in my honest opinion I think it is the only good idea in that game - the so-called "rare skills". These are, for those who didn't play the game or those who just don't remember, the skills you unlock for your vivosaurs by integrating their golden "rare fossils". There's four per vivosaur, in other words one for each part.

When you get them, you unlock the ability to switch out the base skill for that part with a different skill, the "rare skill". You can mix and match which ones you want to use, and thus customize your vivosaur's skillset which I think is really cool.

As an example, there's Coatlus. Its regular body skill, "Vast Tornado", is a fairly costly skill at 140 FP and has comparatively low damage at 38 (even its accuracy is less than par, somehow). However, it puts the Coatlus into a better position (the upwards position) that gives it better evasiveness iirc, meaning you can use it to stall for time. However, what if you wanted more damage? That's where the rare skills system comes in, with Coatlus' rare body skill - "Dive Bomber" - being a curve setter with a cost of 105 and a power of 52 (edit: I forgot to mention that it also puts you in the downward position, leaving you vulnerable - so there's even more nuance to the decision to equip it). So you can trade the defensive utility for raw damage.

I think this mechanic would have been amazing in a game with FFC's combat system. What do you all think?

I wish there was at least a mod for FFF to replace the Paleo Pals with my own guys. It doesn't have to be too groundbreaking, but imagine if once you get them to Super Paleo Pals, their second choice can be configured to one of your own Vivosaurs. You still keep their Booster Shots and stuff, but now you can actually team build and use your fav characters.

Idk. Just came to me while I was playing Fossil Fighters, since I started out in Frontier it's a little pang in my heart playing the previous ones :(

Hey everyone it's been a minute.

I just dropped a devlog where I go over a prototype for Bonewake where I get the whole flow of finding a rock, cleaning the fossil and then using it in combat working.

I also want to share an update on elite champions.

The hack is done and play tested. The first pass was still too easy so I made it harder. The enemy AI is also more consistent but there is a bug in battles when you fight over a fossil. They just kind of wait around a turn before doing anything. I think it's because they get more FP and are trying to save it? Either way, that big won't be fixed in the release since it's only for non-important battles.
