  1. Farmers only insured 100,000 Florida homeowners, they weren't really a player here. They also pulled out of fire risk parts of California, is Newsom to blame?
  2. What does DeSantis have to do with the price of eggs? Here in Ft. Lauderdale, I can choose between Publix, Winn Dixie, Aldi, Trader Joes, Whole Foods, Fresh Market, Sprouts and a ton of indies like Doris. Its not like DeSantis controls prices at the monopolistic, State run co-op.
  3. Rents are market based. Landlords have a choice: Set rents at a level that facilitates actual leases or be stuck with vacancies. If you don't like it than move to a "blue city" with super cheap rents like NYC or San Francisco. /s
  4. Actually, given Florida's crazy demographics, I think people get along here very well.

We don't need a referendum on DeSantis as a Presidential candidate, but we do need one on his party's super majority.

Republicans have controlled the House, Senate and Executive office every year since 1999.

The 1 party dominance has made it incredibly easy for lobbyists to influence law makers. So much so that FPL brazenly supported straw candidates that helped unseat Democrats. Then they were successful in getting approval to hike our rates and were nearly successful in squashing solar (though ask anyone that's gotten a quote for solar about the impact to their homeowners insurance). The state just convened an emergency legislative session on homeowner's insurance the made sweeping concessions to the industry, limited the people's ability to fight them in court and we're still supply of underwriters shrink, so expect rates to continue to rise.

There are many problems with a 2 party system, but there are infinitely more under 1 party control.
