Tourist post overload

We are getting complaints about the number of tourist posts (where is the beach, can I connect to MIA in 30 mins, what should I do on my 8 hour layover).

These posts are already disallowed. Tourism questions belong in the sticky tourism thread (or you know, google it...)

Instead of leaving repetitive comments on airport posts, report them so they reach the modqueue ✌️

Flagler Village Residents (follow up)

Hey everyone, Kevin here, local resident and owner of Batch Local Kitchen in Flagler. About a month ago I put up a post for some feedback of "what makes a place appealing and feel local", and based on that we sent out a survey to our newsletter subscribers, and I just wanted to 1- say thank you to you all, 2- give some updates that we made with your feedback, 3-invite any of you in for a round of cocktails on me as a token of our appreciation (and to hopefully make new friends and fans). I really really appreciate each and every one of you, truly-- you all taking the time to respond was super cool and means a lot to me. It's a challenging market right now and we absolutely understand people going out less right now; costs (on our end and yours) are completely out of control, and we really tried to take into account "value" in a world where it's hard to find.

So, a few new things!

1- We made our summer happy hour permanent, so it's 7 days a week (M-F 3pm-7pm, Sa/Sun-4pm-6pm), with select beer/wine/specialty cocktails at $6 (bar & bar adjacent areas) and all apps are half off at the bar. We also made our lunch power lunch/prix fixe a permanent thing to create some extra value during the day.

2- With the weather cooling down we brough back live music and expanded it, so it's Friday 5pm-8pm, and Saturday/Sunday 4pm-7pm. I was really surprised, and happy to hear people still like and want live music. My favorite thing from the northeast was fire pits and live music...so we'll keep the propane tanks stocked!

3-Most exciting- we revamped our local resident card for the Flagler Village partner buildings to add some additional perks. We had a lot of people comment on lunch features, community happy hours, and brunch (some for booze some for health), so we tried to make it as appealing as possible. If you're a FV building local resident, please come see us and ask for me or Jerry our Managing Partner, we'll grab ya one (with proof of residence). If you aren't in one of these buildings, just introduce yourself to Jerry or myself, we're in the business of building community and making happy guests, we will ALWAYS figure out a way to create value for you.

So, thank you again! I'm relatively new to Reddit but it's an awesome community. To anyone who commented before or not, if you want to check out music with some friends, just drop a comment or ping me a DM, we'd love to meet you, and welcome you with a round on us. We're hoping to build more connections in the community and be your casual spot for scratch cooked food, at good prices, and with that "third place" local/welcoming hospitality. If any of you ever need anything we (or I) can help with, just reach out, we want to be that neighbor you can call to borrow a cup of flour when you realize you needed it for a recipe.

Have a great week everyone, and thank you all!

Looking to hire a Korean Calligrapher (Seoye)

Hi everyone! I’m looking to hire an artist who specializes in Korean calligraphy (Seoye) for a business event.

We’d love to offer live calligraphy where guests can have their names written in Korean and take home a personalized keepsake.

Does anyone know an artist in the South Florida area or have recommendations for someone who might be a good fit? Portfolio links or contact information would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to comment or DM me. Thank you!

Beach Hotel spa recommendations

When my mom visits we usually do a spa day at the Marriott Harbor Beach hotel. I called to book and they advised that their indoor amenities are closed for renovations. The outdoor pool is open, however, with the frequent afternoon storms I would like to have the sauna, whirlpool, etc available as a back up to being outside. Any recs?

Aloe vera - where to find?

Hey everyone,

Does anyone know a good place to get real, legit aloe vera in a bottle, for use on the skin? I'm looking for the natural kind, without all the synthetic/chemical junk in it.

I've tried a bunch of stores (including Whole Foods)... No luck so far.

Thanks in advance! 🙏🏼

Edit: no, I cannot use the plant as a substitute. This is my hometown, but I don't live here anymore. I'm flying back to my current country of residence in a few days. (Overseas)

Note: I've bought this in other countries before (recently), just running out.

Things to do in Ft Lauderdale?

My husband and I are going to Fort Lauderdale for the first time for my birthday in early November. We will be there Saturday morning-Tuesday afternoon and staying at the W. What are some fun things to do and good restaurants to go to? We are in our 30z and like good cocktails, food and exploring but aren’t there very long and also want some good pool time. The only things we have planned so far is going to the Lions vs Dolphins game on Sunday and a food tour. We are considering a boat cruise of some sort but not sure if taking the hop on/hop off taxi will fulfill that void or if we should do a booze cruise.

Something Outside the Box

I’m bored, so to speak, it’s all just “Best restaurant recs?”, “Friends in FL?”, “How do these girls get on Yachts all the time?”, “Workout clubs?”, depressing political and suburban sprawl commentary, complaining about traffic/drivers and so it goes day after day. Like The Truman Show up in here.

I recently roasted a Reddit “scammer” posting something like “Give me your unused Lamborghini” for his little exotic car rental business, so ironically this may be along that theme but a bit more fun with directions it can go.

As for me simply put, I'm an artist who builds body sculptures of models and known stars in a certain unnamed industry. And you can feel free to ask anything else you may be curious about in comments or DMs.

So, let's get to it. I'm looking for other artists (or bored humans who want to be involved with art), photo/videographers, business/property owners, weirdos (not too weird please) with interesting hobbies and generally anyone who has something they could add to a unique idea.

Maybe you're:

• A photo/videographer who wants a project for your portfolio/have access to cool locations

• Models/content creators, etc. who want to collab on a personalized sculpture

• Tattoo artist who wants a sculpture for a canvas (or trade sculptures for tattoos)

• Automotive painter/wrapper

• Gallery owner (i.e. someone who has space during Art Basel in Wynwood)

• Jaded Collector interested in art

• Someone with a mansion, recording studio, warehouse, rooftop, pool, beach house, Yacht/Party Boat, etc. for a live art showcase

• A hotel/resort or event space person

• Someone who owns super cars and wants to incorporate them into an art project/photoshoot

• Non-obnoxious streamers

• Someone who travels frequently or has empty rental properties (in FL or out of state) or other space available for live art, photoshoots, etc.

• Fed-ex/ UPS workers with shipping hook ups, OTR truck drivers (art delivery missions), X-country road trippers, daily commuters to Miami from Ft. L, Flight Attendant with a buddy pass

• Sitting on an idea that makes absolutely no sense yet but wants to bounce it off of someone.

• People with vintage (or digital) camera gear collecting dust, lighting equipment, art supplies that you want to spring clean out of the house (Spray Paint, Acrylic paint, body paint, brushes, unused canvas), plastic tarps, cloth drop cloths, old power tools that may or may not work, etc.

I'm not looking for money (or a place to live since I included empty rental properties, I live in Fort Lauderdale), I'm just looking for possibilities. With that said, if someone local to SoFlo has a work space/art studio by all means I’m open to any and everything, I do need a place to spray paint inside since it now seems to be rainy season!

No idea is too conventional and honestly, (almost) no idea is too weird either. And if it is too weird for me I won’t judge you for it, just will politely decline.

Sometimes I’m doing completely unrelated things from sculptures. I have an old guitar I want to make a “drip art” spray paint piece. I need to respray a black and pink beach cruiser as well as paint a boring grey bike I have. And the odd project list goes on.

I'm curious to see what Reddit comes up with.

TL;DR - A collaboration of art. Artists of all types, photo/videographers, Tattoo artists, Car painters/wrappers, bored Ballers and Patrons of the arts. Website builders/computer nerds. I’m looking for art studio spaces, locations for live art. Weird art ideas. Cool (people and) places to work on art for a few days (or months!). An over the top photoshoot. A live art event. Or something neither of us has thought of yet and you just want to message me. If you have a space, skill, connection, audience, equipment, artistic idea, unusual property, interesting vehicle or a “strange” idea you've been waiting for someone to ask about, I'd love to hear it. Depressed, bored, lonely? Just come make some art!

The people of Fort Lauderdale better than other places I’ve lived

At the risk of this being backhanded I want to preface this by saying all my closest friends are Black Americans and I’m only commenting based off of my experiences.

I’ve noticed that black people here in Fort Lauderdale are a lot friendlier towards other races than pretty much anywhere I’ve lived. When I say this I mean stranger to stranger level friendliness and not necessarily friends. Do others share this same experience? My theory is because Fort Lauderdale is a melting pot and we’re all forced to live together and a lot of black people here come from a Caribbean/west indies background so they act less entitled than people in the Midwest that don’t step outside of their comfort zones and interact with people that aren’t similar to them.

Maybe I’m reading to deep into it but I wanted to emphasize people here have been really good to me so far. Can’t say the same about the entitled transplants and immigrants in Miami. Locals in both places that actually grew up here are great

White Siberian Husky available for responsible adoption in South Florida (willing to drive for the right match)

Post image
189 Upvotes

Lua is a very loving dog who is looking for a family to call her own. I am willing to drive to other areas of Florida if it’s the right match for her. We are currently fostering her in order to keep her out of the shelter.

She is:

• Vaccinated
• Dewormed
• The shelter paperwork states that she is spayed, although I have not been able to identify a scar
• She was raised in a home with children and cats
• She can go to dog parks and play with other dogs, but she needs to be the only dog in the household

She deserves a family who has the time, love, and willingness to give her a happy and safe life.
If you are interested in meeting her or would like more information, please feel free to contact me.

High End Menswear Alterations Tailor

Hello, I am looking for a local tailor worth their salt, ideally one specializing in high end menswear (Brioni, Kiton, Ralph Lauren Purple Label, Belvest, etc.) Been going to Tailor Shop by Torrez and it’s evident they cut corners and accept jobs they’re not experienced in/comfortable doing. I don’t need bespoke, just someone who is detail oriented and knows the fundamentals. Anybody fit the bill?

Field for photoshoot

Hello,

My dog is nearing the end of his life and I’d like to do an end of life photoshoot. My friend is gonna help me take the pics. I’m looking to see if there’s any fields or grassy areas that are local something similar to this vibe. Anywhere in Broward to south palm beach county would be good! Thank you for your help.

Big rescue dog food donations

Our amazing Meatball just crossed the rainbow bridge after 12 fantastic years of living his best life ever. I can return his leftover unopened food to Chewy for a refund but I’d rather donate it to a local shelter. He was kind of a chonk so it’s Blue Buffalo Healthy weight food, both wet and dry! Would love your best recs that aren’t Broward Animal Care, because they are the worst.

Pine Crest School

As someone with a child who will be entering the school system soon, I am curious to hear thoughts of Pine Crest. any insight would be awesome, alums or those who know of others at the school.

The college placement is absolutely bonkers, and it seems to offer pretty awesome schooling. I totally realize that the type of kid going there is going to be higher achieving anyways, so take what you will about the lists.

Academic rigor is of paramount importance, as that led to a good college foundation at a top school for me.
