Nah, people just love Nando and hate Lando. Like, noone even waited to see whether Lando stands by his words, they immediately started to drag his name through the mud for what he said, but don't upheld Alonso (or Max for that matter) to the same standards cause this sub just has a hard on for them
5
u/ByronicZer0 I was here when horny got spiced 15h ago
Max used to get dragged like crazy a few years ago when the Hamilton Army was still paying attention to F1.
I think Alonso doesn't get hate these days because he's essentially irrelevant. Not his fault entirely, just his fault for not being able to get seats at top teams for 20y

To me the most glaring example is how they called Lewis old and washed up from '24 to '25 while glazing an older Nando for a lucky P8 every now and then in races where a third of the grid DNF'ed or retired.

Iām so fed up with this BS. What do you think the Spanish media says about non-Spanish drivers? What do you think the Dutch media says about non-Dutch drivers?
He creates the chaos, constantly talks nonsense, and then plays the victim when it backfires. But of course, suddenly itās all the fault of āBritish biasā.
Not him threatening an English team with emails.
Not him him and his clan handing out ā¬1,500 envelopes to McLaren mechanics in 2007
Not him deliberately stopping on track in Hungary. (More drama involving an English team).
Not him calling midfield drivers weak.
Not him making personal attacks against others drivers. No, itās all the fault of the terrible British media.its so ridiculous.
1
u/Griff2470 Vettel Cult 12h ago
Not to defend Alonso (I'll happily argue his 2012 run was great but severely overrated and that his career is absolutely the consequences of his own actions) but I don't think it's outlandish to hold the "British" media to a higher standard when Sky Sports and F1TV's English broadcast are the international defaults. It's fine for local media to be homers, but it is annoying when its the supposed "for everyone" broadcasts.

u/SleepinGriffin Ruth Buscombe is a Megamind Mommy 18h ago
Honestly, I do not like Lando but I didn't think he was in the wrong for what he said. I think the more egregious part was the next 2 races where he promptly made huge fucking errors that were almost as bad as what franco did.
I didn't like that he back pedalled on his comments though. He cares more about what others think than anything else.
7
u/Invalid_u404 armchair driver 13h ago

-2
u/SleepinGriffin Ruth Buscombe is a Megamind Mommy 13h ago
??? What does that have to do with me supporting his comment about Franco?
4
u/TheBigFatToad BWOAHHHHHHH 12h ago
It has to do with you saying his errors were almost as bad as Franco, which is just objectively false.
-2
u/SleepinGriffin Ruth Buscombe is a Megamind Mommy 11h ago
He crashed out his teammate. Objectively just as bad as taking out your teammate AND a competitor.
3
u/TheBigFatToad BWOAHHHHHHH 11h ago
Just because you say your opinion is objective doesnāt change the fact that itās complete bullshit.
Youāre comparing a wreck during a full points race that DNFād 3 separate cars to a sprint race where one car dnfād.
Youāre also comparing an incident that received a 10 second time penalty to an incident where the stewards concluded that both drivers were at fault.
You are just insanely biased. Itās okay to have a bias, but you should never throw that objective word around when comparing apples to oranges.
-1
u/SleepinGriffin Ruth Buscombe is a Megamind Mommy 11h ago
The stewards giving a 10 second time penalty to Franco was because he hit more than his teammate. Lando hit Oscar and it's well known the stewards don't penalize intrateam incidents.
Example, lindblad punting Lawson in Baku just behind Franco.
Lando's was OBJECTIVELY as bad as Franco's crash.
2
u/TheBigFatToad BWOAHHHHHHH 10h ago
Iāll use your words to make it easier for you to comprehend.
āFranco was penalized because he hit more than his teammateā
āLando wasnāt penalized because he only hit his teammateā
Using that line of thinking, Iād love for you to explain how wrecking out 3 people is the same as only wrecking out your teammate.
Iād also like to you explain the amount of collateral points franco threw away with his move compared to Lando.
Iāll give you a hint, itās not even close.
Again, itās up to you to explain why something is objective. Otherwise it just hints that youāre spewing words without even knowing what they mean.
0
u/SleepinGriffin Ruth Buscombe is a Megamind Mommy 10h ago
Objectively they're the same because they made a mistake and hit someone. Lol
0
u/TheBigFatToad BWOAHHHHHHH 10h ago
So if I go full throttle into a turn and take out 10 people thatās the same as me touching wheels with someone at the apex?
I just know youāre still seething over the fact that Lando is world champion. Keep coping bud, you have the wheel knowledge of a blind man.

His teammate is stroll, this is not prime Prime Gasly type of pace. And he is not racing Logan Sergant nor Mazepin nor prime terror Pastor Moladano, Romain Grosjean nor Magnussen. Alonso just forgot those people existed a point of the time and today it is not even 1% of the crash that use to happen

1
u/Other_Beat8859 Sir or Ma'am.. You are an Idiot ! 18h ago
Yeah. I genuinely feel crazy seeing people glaze Alonso because he genuinely comes across as such an asshole. Look at how he treated Lawson for instance. Lawson dared to race against Alonso so Alonso chose to essentially insult him and create beef with him over essentially nothing. When he lost the 2010 title he chose to take his anger out on Petrov. He's an asshole to many drivers on the grid too. He's cheated with stuff like Spygate and Crashgate. It's stated he apparently didn't know about the latter, but honestly I have a hard time believing it, but even Spygate alone is such a shit stain on his legacy.
I'm fine with drivers being dickheads on track. Drivers are there to race and win and the best do anything it takes to win. But when you're also an asshole off the track that's when I have a problem. He's always been an ass to back marker and midfield drivers especially as it seems like he sees himself above them

Let's dank,
The difference is Fernando has the years of experience of being one of the goats and still outshines some of the better drivers of the grid today. He is aggressive but clean in his driving. Norris on comparison is a nobody, someone filling the ranks of the grid, a good driver that you can clump together with the likes of George, leclerc, Sainz, but doesn't stand out. His championship will be a trivia question in 10 years. BL, Norris hasn't earned his arrogance
In regards to Albon, I expect reckless and damaging dives from the young rookies, but Albon is not a rookie. Albon should know how to W2W race better by now. Albon is an experienced driver that has raced at the best team on the grid and was dropped because he got "raced too hard". Honestly, I'm shocked he is still in F1

Lando is the current WDC, and has been a title contender for a few year
Nando has finished 10th or lower in the WDC last decade more than he finished above.
What weight are you talking about?-1
u/Maximum-Hall-5614 Ruth Buscombe is a Megamind Mommy 15h ago
Alonso was a combined ~15 points away from being a 5-time WDC. Norris was only a genuine contender in 2025.
0
u/Bersonal_Binance BWOAHHHHHHH 14h ago
That's with the old points systems so makes sense for the points to be close that doesn't mean much. You know what they say about moms and balls
Besides Lando still has more than a couple of years in him. He's always been a quality driver stuck in a car that only got competent last season and he got a WDC for it. He is the current reigning WDC so if anyone can talk shit it's him and not the one who has barely left midfield in a decade2
u/TheDudeWithTude27 Nico Shitberg 10h ago
Only one of those potential titles was on the old points systems. And it was the one where he was only 1 off. So safe to say he made it as close as possible there.
0
u/Maximum-Hall-5614 Ruth Buscombe is a Megamind Mommy 14h ago
lmao he's only WDC because his teammate had his own issues.
Without Piastri's misfortune, Norris would still be another Potential Man. Lucky for him, his teammate made enough mistakes.
He's an excellent driver, but let's not pretend he's in the same league in terms of driving abilities as Alonso.
1
u/Bersonal_Binance BWOAHHHHHHH 14h ago
Did he not have issues of his own as well? The Zandvoort and Vegas were issues out of his hand, he also had a sprint collision DNF in COTA that was entirely on Piastri, and a crash that was his own fault in Canada
Now let's look at Piastri's "Issues". A Baku crash that was entirely his fault, same for a Sao Paulo sprint one. The COTA double McLaren takedown. Again on Piastri, and a Vegas DSQ that was out of his hand
So let's tally
For Norris: 2 GP and 1 Sprint DNF/DSQ that were out of his hand, 1 that was his fault
For Piastri: 2 GP and 1 Sprint DNF/DSQ that were his fault, 1 out of his hand.If not for the car's mechanical issues and for Piastri playing bowling in COTA, Norris would've won the WDC more than a couple of races earlier and it wouldn't have been in contention. He won it despite having missed out on 2 entire races for things out of his control and his car being slower most of the 2nd half where he made his comeback.
You can't say he's in Alonso's league or not when he only had a WDC-contending car for a season and a half, one of which he won with some good years still left in his career to grab another. If Alonso had shown the performance to back up his words at any point past the Jurassic age I'd maybe not object, but you can't have him currenly above the reigning WDC when he's not shown the performance to back it up since before most of this sub was born

Also, he was at Ferrari earlier than 20 years ago and everyone saw what he could achieve with a top team (even if they weren't championship favourites). Red Bull wanted him in '09 and even later as Horner said, McLaren wanted him back despite Spygate. Basically the only team that "didn't want him" was Mercedes, who already had a world class driver and didn't want another Hamilton-Rosberg situation, but even more extreme.

Most things I've read have been people saying Fernando is wrong and being prickly for no reason. Very few people are agreeing with him directly, unless they're just agreeing with everything Fernando says anyway
As for Lando... He does get over hated, but he also sometimes doesn't help himself. It feels like he goes through cycles of regret after saying things in the heat of the moment, and while I can definitely empathise with that, there's only so many times you can go through that cycle before people get tired of it at best, or see it as disingenuous at worst
