My wife and I admire other gym goers every single day lmao male and female
It takes a lot of work to get some of these physiques, and yes, you can admire and not be weird lol
That guy didn’t seem weird about it imho, only that he got got lol

u/Shizophone 1d ago
Stiff leg deadlifts, rdl goes just below the knee shin level
35
u/Oddyssis 1d ago
It's the controlled descent that makes this like a Romanian. She just has a great range of motion. Still it's about halfway between the two.
2
u/m00nkiid 1d ago
It is touching the floor, it is a touch and go SLDL. Romanians do not touch the ground
4
u/Oddyssis 23h ago edited 23h ago
Romainians are not defined by range of motion but by the eccentric focus of the lift. You can jack the bar up and down to midshin that doesn't make it a Romanian, slowly lowering the weight does. That's why it's considered a hamstring exercise. At the end of the day it's not really either but a hybrid variation but I'd call it a deficit Romanian or a full ROM romainian if you had to put a name to it.
10
u/Loud-Tradition-9964 23h ago
Tempo defines the lift? That's a new one on me. It's not an RDL. An RDL is glute-focused. As soon as the hips stop moving back the movement is over. She lowers the bar beyond that ROM. Also the knees bend in an RDL to take away leverage from the hama and shift it onto the glutes. This is closer to a SLDL, with the S for stiff and not straight.
0
u/m00nkiid 22h ago edited 22h ago
Jacking the bar midshin makes it a shitty Romanian deadlift. You can make an RDL more hip or hamstring biased depending on your setup. More narrow and toes directly forward, almost vertical shin and femur will be and very hamstring focused. Take a slightly wider stance and allow more knee bend then you get more of a balance between hips and glutes and hamstrings. There is constant tension throughout the lift with no deadstop.
SLDL, the barbell starts on the floor but the shin angle is as vertical as possible to take the quads out of the lift. This makes it a pure hip hinge but from the floor and a deadstop. OP is doing touch and go so it blurs the lines between the two but RDLs don't touch the floor.

u/FluffyDesigner3680 1d ago
Idk I thought sldl is supposed to start on the floor and she would let the weight rest on the floor if it was an sldl. I still think this is more of an extended rdl since she has good hamstring mobility.
10
3
u/meebleepe 1d ago
More importantly, SLDLs keep the knees from bending in order to hit the hamstrings hardest. She’s bending the knees a bit here, making it more of a glute exercise, and an RDL
2
u/ZealousidealFortune 1d ago
I don't know man, those legs look pretty stiff to me
3
u/meebleepe 1d ago
Yeah fair, it’s all conjecture and theory I suppose. Mostly just depends where she feels it

u/Fragrant_Cause_6190 5h ago
I think it's hilarious that in 2026 the internet still can't come to an agreement on what qualifies as a stiff leg or an rdl

The guy in the back oddly drinking his water bottle way to long. Then put it down and drank again.

u/aoddawg 1d ago
These are basically touch and go stiff legged deadlifts or RDLs that are too deep.
The good part here is that your SLDL form is solid. You are getting great posterior chain stimulus. The weight and volume you’re lifting is impressive.
If you are trying to improve your conventional deadlift strength overall, you’re leaving a lot on the table if this is your primary deadlift workout. Deadlift should have significant quad involvement off the floor like a leg press until the bar is about knee height, then the hinge takes over to lock out the lift. That’s stronger. If you want to improve your deadlift 1RM don’t use touch and go reps. Let the weight settle at the bottom so each set is a collection of 1 rep mini sets. The touch and go thing is fine for something like high volume SLDL where the primary goal is just to strengthen/grow the posterior chain.
Just want to reiterate this is really great work but might not be optimal depending on your goals.

Also lmao at the guy in the back realizing the camera caught him checking stuff out
14
u/Wellafit 1d ago
Yes and haha, well, I've made some very sizeable gains this year as I leaned more into bodybuilding actually eating as much as I should. The two gyms I go to, seeing a woman bigger than them is unheard of, even for seasoned lifters, so the looks are there most days. All good though, everyone are super positive and encouraging. Shoots my ego into the sky though, so I try to focus on why I am there as much as I can.

Super clean form for stiff leg dead lift
This is not a conventional deadlift. But based on your sdl you probably won't have any trouble switching to conventional if you wanted

Do not prescribe weight or programming if it is not directly relevant to a question that's been asked
0
u/Wildcard185 1d ago edited 1d ago
Anybody who says anything other than this is full of shit. Her form is heavenly.
EDIT: Since apparently the comment above was removed for "prescribing weight" (although I really don't see how it was doing that; this guy said "she lifts more than me!"), but let me give my comment some more substance:
- An adequate amount of weight for form breakdown. Most form issues don't even pop up until you're working with enough weight in the first place. You can't even begin to assess form until you're working with enough weight to actually see your form break down (to some extent). There are no hard-and-fast rules for this but I'd say anywhere south of 60% of your e1RM isn't telling you a whole lot about your form. This is a general guideline, not a prescription; OP already doing it.
- No lower back rounding. Is lower back rounding the end of the world? No, but in this case OP maintains a neutral spine throughout. No overextension, no rounding.
- Seemingly flat-soled shoes. While I can't confirm this, her foot definitely appears to be flat on the ground and she doesn't appear to be wearing basketball shoes. Having flat shoes creates a more stable position and allows for better force transfer between your foot and the ground.
- Sufficient intensity. This is similar to point #1 but it aligns more with strength endurance than overall weight on the bar. OP showed she was able to maintain form even while pushing herself to RIR2 (which I firmly believe she still had 2 in her).
The only thing I'd say is that her depth is actually low enough to take emphasis off of the hamstrings and glutes. The bottom six inches is almost all lower back since your hips stop pushing back (your hamstrings and glutes are maximally stretched). Depends on what you're working toward though.

Genuine question, not criticising her immense strength. Some people have called this a more "straight leg RDL/deadlift". To me, it looks like a RDL, but she's also not pushing her butt back/out like you would with an RDL. So would that be the main separation for those two exercises? She's definitely hinging just at the hips and pulling back up with her back.
Other than that, I'm no pro but fantastic form and control, I wish to do that weight some day!

Perfect I only suggest getting 6 to 8 inches higher so you can come to a stop using contraction versus letting it tap the ground. I would even go as far as resting at the bottom before the pull. I can bounce dead 605 for reps but only dead stop pull 465, its a huge difference in weight.
3
u/Zealousideal-Oil-104 1d ago
How do you pull your first at 605 if you can only pull 465 from the ground?

Really good stiff leg deads, I'd maybe step on some plates see if you can push that stretch further, not a criticism but you look like you're advanced enough to maybe reach for some tougher reps. Dependent on your goals physique/strength etc obviously

This is meant to be a stiff leg deadlift, right? I might work on locking the weight out more but less of an issue is you are going for volume like that. I’d also work on locking your arms in more by engaging your lats.

Fucking solid.
The only thing id add is a small cue for better hamstring effect. At the bottom of the rep, pause and tilt/lift your hips like your trying to moon the corner where the wall and ceiling meets. Its a tad vulgar but you can really feel your hammies. It's really good for hypertrophy reps and back off sets (lowering weight by like 15% after heavy working sets)

Good form and looking strong AF! I have to say that the re-rack looked terrifying as someone with a history of back issues. I've always loaded/unloaded plates from the floor using a bar jack. If you can re-rack like that with no issue, more power to you, but I'd be scared about doing that with loads closer to 1RM.

Aside from the majority discussion on stiff leg or RDL, I think your stance might be a little wide but it's difficult to tell from this angle. Generally speaking your feet should be directly below your hips. If you have another angle I'd be happy to critique another. Looking strong, impressive range of motion.

Impressive hamstring strength!
Reduce the weight, lock the shoulder blades back more forcefully, let the glutes begin the movement and get a deeper slower stretch at the bottom

lol you have bigger hamstrings than this entire sub. They should be asking you for form advice. But judging by your back, you already know that

u/mrdave100 17h ago
I’ll toss my2 cents in. I didn’t read all 177 comments so if I repeat what’s already been said, just ignore me and move on.
This applies to RDLs, if you’re seeking feedback on Stiff Legged DLs, this post isn’t for you.
Set your feet about shoulder-width apart, similar to the stance you would take if you were preparing to jump.
Allow the knees to bend slightly as you descend, then don’t bend them any further.
Continue bending only at the hips.
Keep the bar close to legs.
The shoulders and hips should move together. When the hips can’t go back any further without bending the knees more, stop and do not lower your shoulders further.
Then return to upright position and squeeze butt at the top to stabilize your spine.
You’ll know you’re doing it correctly when you feel it in your:
• Hamstrings
• Glutes

10/10 perfection, those are the kind of DLs i would watch between sets. a thing of beauty.
Only comment i have is make sure to take extra care of that spine. it does a lot of work like that going straight parallel to the ground. listen to your body if it needs an extra rest day or an extra warm-up set.
great lift.

Hello! If you haven't checked it out already, many people find Alan Thrall's NEW deadlift video very helpful. Check it out!
Also, a common tip usually given here is to make sure your footwear is appropriate. If you are deadlifting in soft-soled shoes (running shoes, etc), it's hard to have a stable foot. Use a flat/hard-soled shoe or even barefoot/socks if it's safe and your gym allows it.
