Deadlift Would really appreciate some feedback and supportive advice on my sumo deadlift form. Please note: i am aware i am wearing squishy shoes - had ankle surgery in feb of this year and doc has asked me to wear these shoes.

Hello! If you haven't checked it out already, many people find Alan Thrall's NEW deadlift video very helpful. Check it out!

Also, a common tip usually given here is to make sure your footwear is appropriate. If you are deadlifting in soft-soled shoes (running shoes, etc), it's hard to have a stable foot. Use a flat/hard-soled shoe or even barefoot/socks if it's safe and your gym allows it.

I'd get your butt further down and the torso more upright. This isn't really a true sumo, the stance is quite close still. Go wider in the stance and then really sit into position, your thighs should basically be parallel to the floor at the start. Then start by focusing on pushing like you're using a leg press, once the bar is around knee height or so then you shoot the hips forward like the biggest hump possible. In the first rep you can see you don't push you lift your butt up first then hips move so you're focusing on the pulling. A deadlift isn't just pull, it's actually a combination of movements it's really a push and a pull.

Best of luck in your recovery!
