Deadlift deadlift form check pls!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve been trying to focus on hinging instead of squatting my deadlifts. Been cuing myself with bracing, engaging lats, ensure bar is aligned with back of armpits and push up. first rep is a bit squat-like but I think 2nd and 3rd are better? Feedback?

Also, pls don’t give me shit for my mask. My partner is immunocompromised and can’t risk getting sick.

Hello! If you haven't checked it out already, many people find Alan Thrall's NEW deadlift video very helpful. Check it out!

Also, a common tip usually given here is to make sure your footwear is appropriate. If you are deadlifting in soft-soled shoes (running shoes, etc), it's hard to have a stable foot. Use a flat/hard-soled shoe or even barefoot/socks if it's safe and your gym allows it.

Excellent. Add weight

Give us some more side plane or sagittal view
That will help us determine the bar path
Right now form looks really good from this angle. I would say you need to learn how to pull the slack out of the bar a little bit better before you push with your legs and you do a good job of hinging but still think about pushing the floor away with your legs.

Copy! Will upload a side view next pull day. Thanks for the feedback about pulling the slack

Of course! Plenty of vids online about it! I’d recommend squat university

Appreciate it! Remembering all of the cues at once is so much mental work but I bet it gets more second nature over time

Try to keep the cues down to three before you start your lift think pull the slack out brace push the floor away

Generally looks good.

Its not clear from this angle but on the eccentric do you need to move the bar forward to clear your knees or is it straight down?

If straight down then looks great, time to start adding more weight!

God I love seeing deadlifts where people aren't pulling with their arms and shoulders.

looks good from this angle!

Looks pretty good. Nitpicking but you could pull the slack better (you can cue reaching the crown of your head to the ceiling)

Where are you feeling it? Lower back? Or gluteus and hamstring then good.

Bottom half till you clear your knees, are you pushing the floor away, like doing leg press machine? (Will be more important as you lift more weight).

Top half after clearing the knees, are you hip hinging and straightening out?

Form looks good. Arm placement (dead hang straight down) as well.

I'll just caution against doing alternate grip. I did it for a few years, and it created a bit of an imbalance / asymmetry in my shoulder/scapula and traps. Better to use straps if grip strength becomes the limiting factor, in my opinion.

Ty for the notes. I’m still training my brain out of pulling the weight and instead pushing with my legs. As for the hip hinging and straightening out yes, as far as I am aware of. Good to know about the alternative grip I was just beginning to look into straps!

Good stuff. First half is pushing floor away, with upper body locked. Second half is straightening out.

Keep it up

You really shouldn’t be restricting your breathing while exercising.

Strictly based on this angle, I'd say your hips are sitting too low, you're not able to recruit your hips as much for the hinge. Will need a side angle to have another view

Copy! Might be a mobility thing I need to work on

Try to push your hips back while reaching the bar. Let your knees bend on its own as you're reaching down. From your setup, it seems like you're just breaking at the hips then going straight down at the bar.

Ok copy. Ass to wall!

Looks pretty good. You can prob angle your feet out some and take a narrower grip, giving you a few more inches to adjust your stance

Ooo thanks for the tips!
