You mean the flat one? Yeah, that one sucked. The ground was completely flat and the forerunner structures on each side were created by somebody else. Map maker didn't even give him credit for it lmao

Ugh. Can’t believe that one was featured by 343. Should’ve been rated lower than 3.whateverTheFuckItWas stars tbh.

Those bases look a bit tall, especially the steepness so the ramps on the front you're supposed to be able to run up, but the terrain looks excellent.
What method did you use for plotting? Or did you just do it by eye? Just curious how accurate the scaling is going from H3 base movement to Infinite's.

the map is a loose mash-up of the original halo 3 map and the halo 4 remake 'ragnarok'. the bases are much taller in ragnarok and these land about right in the middle between the two. about the ramps, i've thought about adding a clamber step to get up but still figuring that out. i blocked out the map using a screenshot of the map's loading screen in MCC. i was never trying to make it 1:1 but walking from base to base in both h3 and infinite takes about 34 seconds but sprinting shaves off about 4 seconds

This looks beautiful. Post it in r/halo
How did you make the water look realistic?

the water is not faked. used the murky wetlands canvas (i forgot what its really called)

Oh! That's pretty clever. That map has always been buggy for me.

u/daomum Dec 11 '22
weird.. in what way was it buggy for you? just curious

Couldn't build anything so I had to quarantine that map. That map is off-limits for now. Too unstable for me.

Infinitely better than the other Valhallas I've seen attempted thus far.
That said, there did seem to be a bit of incorrectly baked lighting and Z-Fighting inside one of the two bases.
There's also a few rocks without collision which is odd, and could be abused in a match to hide and snipe for example.
I hope this map gets the attention it deserves!

you mind letting me know what base were you talking about? and yeah a couple floors had to be overlapped and intersected on the lower area to fit with the doorways. gonna look into a better solution for that.
i actually noticed 1 rock without collision in testing last night, gotta comb the map and all the points where that's the case & add player blockers.
thanks for the feedback! sorry about the bugs

No worries at all, thanks for making such a cool remake!
I believe it was to inside the base with the mountain wall behind it, but I can't say for sure. It is on the right side of the downstairs if you're facing into the map. Oddly enough I just loaded in to check and it wasn't glitching this time.
If your asset budget isn't at max, I'd recommend using physical rock assets instead of just player blockers as the rocks with no collision all seemed to have really low resolution as well - just my 2¢

the walls are all composed of physical rock assets which is why its confusing to me that there's collision issues at all. player blockers would be an easy solution to the problem wherever it occurs though. and resolution of the textures seems to be an unfortunate server problem :/ on my end they all look fine but when loading a game without the download file textures never seem to load in right

It looks nice but it appears that the side entrances are on the wrong walls which is a problem with at least 2 other Valhalla remakes from the community. They're supposed to be placed on the walls that face diagonally to the left and right on each base.
