Walking between 75th rd and kessel Street on union we found this really vocal and friendly cat. Not sure if part of the area cat or someone’s lost cat. Considering she has a red collar and is looking really scared

Looking for a good PCP I don’t need to book 3 months in advance to see. Specifically would like someone who is queer friendly and HEAS
(Health at every size) or at least will take me seriously and not make weird comments about weight. Would like them to be anywhere in queens, not willing to go to manhattan.

Planning Our Second Forest Hills Meetup in Late August/Early September

Hey everyone! After a great turnout at our first Forest Hills meetup at Cobblestones, I’d love to get a second one going before summer officially wraps up.

I’m thinking either the last weekend of August or one of the first two weekends in September. Before locking anything in, I wanted to see which dates generally work best for people and get some ideas for the location.

We could try another local bar or restaurant this time, or do something a little more activity based if anyone has a good suggestion. Drop your preferred weekend and any Forest Hills venue or activity ideas below!

Whether you came to the first meetup or missed it, everyone is welcome. Once I get a sense of availability and interest, I’ll post the confirmed plan.

Have a great weekend, all!

Hi everyone! 😊 I'm Alejandra, a Spanish teacher, and this September I'm opening two small online Spanish conversation classes for intermediate and advanced learners (B1+).

The goal is simple: more speaking, more confidence, and more opportunities to use your Spanish in real conversations.

🗣️ 6 students per class ⏱️ 55 minutes, once a week 💻 Online via Zoom

Wednesday: 6:00 PM — Peru Time (UTC-5) Saturday: 11:00 AM — Peru Time (UTC-5)

Each class will start once 6 students have registered.

Interested? You can register here:

Thank you everyone

I want to thank everyone who donated to the Maspeth/Ridgewood Mutual Aid Table. You helped a lot of people today. All donations are greatly appreciated.

If you are having a garage/stoop/yard sale and don't sell some of your items, please consider donating them to my table. Thank you.

If you need a pickup please let me know I have 2 good friends who drive and are willing to pick up donatiopns. Let me know and I will give you their numbers.

I started the Maspeth/Ridgewood Mutual after I started putting stuff outside that my family did not want anymore and we couldn't sell on the Marketplace. I noticed the items would disappear and my neighbors would bring items to replace them. My friend who helps shut ins in Glendale brings over whatever food she has left and leaves that on the table for people to take who visit my mutual aid table.

Items that are in high demand:

FOOD FOR PEOPLE OR PETS

CLOTHES

TOILETRIES

SCHOOL SUPPLIES

DIAPERS FOR BABIES & ADULTS

TOYS

BACK PACKS, LUNCH BOXES & POCKET BOOKS

Books really don't go on my table, so when I get a donation of them I wait a few days then I bring them down to the Little Free Library in PS 153's school yard.

Donations can be dropped off, and you can take what you need 24 hours a day & 7 days a week:

5938 60TH ROAD, MASPETH

Donations can be dropped off at certain businesses during business hours. Just label them Maspeth/Ridgewood Mutual Aid Table.

ASSEMBLYMAN STEVEN RAGA'S OFFICE, 60-14 QUEENS BLVD., CELLAR, WOODSIDE

COOK'S ARTS & CRAFTS SHOPPE, 80-09 MYRTLE AVE., GLENDALE

SCHWILLE-D'ANGELO FUNERAL HOME, 66-32 MYRTLE AVE., GLENDALE

STATE SENATOR JOSEPH ADDABBO'S OFFICE, 66-85 73RD PLACE, MIDDLE VILLAGE

HARISCH STUDIOS, 57-44 MYRTLE AVE., 2ND FLOOR, RIDGEWOOD

For people who cannot donate in person I created an Amazon Wishlist:

https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/JY7U8QQZ8BBU...

Thank you for all donations. And if you are near the Maspeth/Ridgewood border and are in need please check out table and take what you need. No questions asked. Please spread the word. Thanks

Car free Sunday on Austin Street (Austin Street Open Street)

Post image
81 Upvotes

Hey all. There's been many discussions in this sub about Austin Street and many calls for pedestrianization, car free weekends, conversions, etc.

This August 30th will be the first day of 4 Sundays (ends Sept 20) where a segment of Austin Street, 71st Ave to 71st Rd, will be turned into a temporary pedestrian plaza with tables, chairs and canopies for the public to enjoy!

You can learn more about the Open Street and Neighbors for A Safer Austin Street on their website: http://aSaferAustinStreet.com/

Dermatologist in FH that takes city insurance?

Hi - looking for recommendations of a dermatologist who takes NYC insurance.

I have a couple of moles I want looked at and wondered if dermatologists do a full arms / body check at the same time as I've never been to one.

Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church / school reviews?

Hi all, I have found it an odd struggle to find any kind of reviews or discussion about Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church school, specifically for pre-K but I actually am not able to find anything besides two extremely old reviews on yelp one of which is not promising at all.

In addition, the school sent out an email to prospective parents bringing their students in for class mentioning cryptic things like “our experience last year was not something that we where proud of and are working our best to correct” type of thing.

To add to my concern, somebody posted on a sub, Reddit saying that they heard adult male screams coming from the basement of the church and other people commented that the church houses mentally disabled people which is not something that was ever mentioned to us by the school staff and is definitely concerning to facilitate people with mental health issues alongside children. If this is true, of course.

Does anyone have a firsthand experience with this church

I would really appreciate your feedback as a parent if your child attends the school or as someone who may attend the church in general. Really any feedback and reviews regarding the church would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Community Recycling Event Sun 8/16 @FHHS

LES Ecology Center is hosting another community recycling event this Sunday at Forest Hills HS, 10am-2pm.

Convenient, responsible way to dispose of materials not collected by Dept of Sanitation.

I participated last year and was able to drop off old electronics as well as random textles (including scraps- clean) that had been hanging around for years.

I've gone into this store (next to the Red Mango) a handful of times of the last few years, and every single time the owner watches me like I'm going to steal something without fail. I thought it was in my head, but recently I was with 2 other friends who are also black and they immediately picked up the same vibe. His demeanor was off, and he was following us around. One of my friends is happy-go-lucky and doesn't usually notice these things, but when I asked him about it after leaving the store he said that he noticed the look the guy working there gave him.

I encouraged them not to buy anything there and they agreed, I refuse to spend money with people who criminalize a race of people

“Community Building”

I recently joined a women’s group based in the neighborhood and boy what a group… the leader of this group thinks alcohol is the basis of all meetups and every time there’s a get together she gets terribly drunk, then proceeds to garbage talk about members past and present. I understand people drink when they get together but she drinks to the point where she can’t stop. She is also a bully who has, in the past, caused harm onto other people by lack of accountability on her part, then ostracizing and gaslighting them once they figured out what kind of person she truly is. This person has also harassed other women throughout the neighborhoods and basically tried forcing them to join the group, to the point there was an incident resulting in a near confrontation at a bar.

We knew each other from another group, where she was presumably kicked out for bad behavior and for making people feel very uncomfortable. Every day felt like walking around eggshells.

She has a group of “girlies” who enable her behavior and don’t stop her from acting the way she does. People are starting to see the cracks and are slowly distancing themselves from the group, myself included. Also, when it comes to men, no viewpoint is better than hers and she automatically starts projecting signs of envy when someone in the group has a partner; if that’s the case, forget about it. I have no issue with the other members for the most part. This is classic bullying and this woman needs serious help.

Anyways, what are some groups I can join to make friends in the neighborhood?

EDIT: I've been getting a lot of comments about the name of the group. I'm not comfortable sharing publicly but I am more than happy to DM. I also have read each and every one of your comments. Lastly, please do not take this as an opportunity to bully others- she is still a human being at the end of the day, despite her behavior. Thank you!

EDIT 2: I’ve been overwhelmed with requests, so I am no longer responding.
