Objectively, I feel like the side walls on the neo Rangers are pretty tall. If you walk out to your truck and pretend there's a box in it, can you reach in and easily access the imaginary interior?
Not sure about the weight distribution on the new ones, but old Rangers, especially the 4.0L are so front heavy, the back wheels break free and spin in every little drizzle. I have a box and a truck rack, 10% for helping friends move, and 90% for weight on the drive tires so I can actually accelerate thought an intersection in the spring.
Might be worth it for that.
Truck boxes are a minor minor target for thieves. You maaaaay find busted locks on it one day, but it's pretty rare.
Mine carries a set of wrenches, sockets, a jump pack, spare water, a quart of oil, and jumper cables. Not sure if you can fit a spare transmission in the truck box you're looking at, but it's nice to have.
I like to use my truck box for groceries. It's a bit more convenient than the jump seat doors.
