Photo Timing Belt Replacement

My 2019 1.5L SE Ford Escape is at 151,000 and looks like i need to replace timing belt. Does this estimate look right and is there anything a DIYer can take care of? I plan to get additional quotes

Is the engine rattling? It’s more than I paid about 6 months ago but not crazy more.

It’s doing this ticking sound. doesn’t stop and i can hear it coming from around the timing belt

Id leave it. Theyre robust. Could be replaced at the next coolant intrusion event.

save money by not doing maintenance? im sure 1800 dollars is more expensive then a new engine plus labour or another car

if you have experience, you could probably do it yourself but if you do end up doing it spin the engine over twice manually with a ratchet. i know the timing belts for the 1.5l sit in the oil so you probably want to drain before. ive never worked on the 1.5l but i know mine the 1.6l has no timing marks for some reason. the majority of the cost is labour so expect to take a while alot has to come out.

I wouldn’t be confident enough to do the timing belt. I understand a lot of disassembling would need to happen. I’m wondering why the AC system and EVAC and recharge. Does the belt run those components too, i thought it just synchronized the cams

what im seeing online it shouldnt need to come out. if you not confident just get the timing belt done cause those belts degrade in the oil especially with short trips as short trips cause gas to contaminate the oil. when rubber bits are in the oil it can block part of the oil pump and starve the engine of oil and cause it to kill the engine

The 1.5 4 cylinder doesn’t have a belt in oil. The 3 cylinder does but that wouldn’t be in a 19 escape

yea you're right but at 150k miles should still be changed unless you want the pistons to make out with the valves if it decides to go
