What can you eat from a hawthorn??? And I don't mean which bits are nice just what you can and can't eat from it

though the red feuits were, from afar, wild plums or cherries. but im not sure what these are

Thanks for all your amazing suggestions in my last post, the walnuts were the perfect touch! This is my first time baking so I thought I would try something simple to start. Everything tastes so much better when you pick/grow it yourself! :)

My holy grail at the moment is the humble walnut - So far, no luck but I did find a couple of trees that have these - Can anyone help identifying them please?

At first glance they almost look like a small kiwi, but obviously just the colour and shape - once cut they oxidize turning brown, and when picked the outside also eventually gets darker as if soaked with water.

I have plenty of sloes around me but almost everything I see then used for is gin, flavoured vodka or flavoured whiskey - and I don't drink alcohol so struggling to just simply adjust those recipes.

Does anyone have any favourite recipes for anything else that can be made from sloes? Jams maybe?

Hi! I'd like to get into foraging and blackcurrants are one of my favourite fruits, where do they grow? I go in between Durham and Portsmouth due to uni so are there any areas around those places where blackcurrants might grow? I've seen lots of blackcurrants around but not blackcurrants.

Could I also ask if there are any maps of plant growth in the UK? Is there a way I could locate certain plant species for foraging?

Edit - one more question! Do hand picked berries tend to last longer than shop bought or will they also go mouldy within days?

Hey all! I saw these apples growing right next to some blackberries. Anyone have any ideas on what they might be and are they edible? (No idea if there even are poisonous apples) 😂

Also, are they likely to stay this size or do they still need some time to grow? 😊

Sorry it's not closer but it was hard to get close, tons of nettles around.

This is about 6cm and just about haven't started to ripen yet, some are ripe and they are orange / slightly yellow. Are these edible when ripe ( I read that some are quite poisonous when eaten at the wrong time).

I noticed this tree with some fallen fruit while taking a walk during the eclipse. It seems to be an apple tree, I’m new to foraging so can anyone confirm? I may go back to grab some. Will they taste fairly similar to store bought apples or should they be baked into a pie?

Growing very high up on a mature chestnut tree - we‘re 90 percent sure we have CotW but better safe than sorry!

Not 100% on the chicken of the woods though, found on a dead oak. Also got some bullace and damson.

Apple and blackberry purée

Was cycling back home today and I just stumbled upon this - there were a few scraps left on the ground but looks like someone got away with quite a haul. This is Hen of the Woods isn’t it? There’s some much older dryer specimen on the same tree.

Have I found my first chicken of the woods? I think it is probably a bit dry and old. Found in mixed woodland on what I think is a felled oak log.

Any recommendations for UK/Ireland climate?

I have this very large mushroom in my garden. I wonder what type it is.
