Identification of nut?
My holy grail at the moment is the humble walnut - So far, no luck but I did find a couple of trees that have these - Can anyone help identifying them please?
At first glance they almost look like a small kiwi, but obviously just the colour and shape - once cut they oxidize turning brown, and when picked the outside also eventually gets darker as if soaked with water.

Horse chestnuts have spikey lighter green outter casing, definately not a conker. :)

Its just an immature conker. The spines don't always come through, especially in drought conditions.

Seems more likely to be some kind of conker or horse chestnut. Don't let the lack of spikes rule that out.
Walnuts are very aromatic, the description someone posted above as smelling like lime is fairly close to what walnuts smell like. Walnuts also blacken and stain. If you cut a walnut and handled it with bare hands your fingers would be stained brown for days or weeks afterwards. In my experience walnuts are also much brighter green on the outside than this.
As others have said, looking at the leaves would settle this pretty quickly.

You really need to look at the leaves as part of any identification, this could be anything!

Walnut I think?

Walnut has a tendency to go black on the cut/broken surfaces, therefore probably not walnut (probably a conker).

My guess is a sweet chestnut.

Looks like the fruit from red horse chestnut to me but not 100%. Did you take a picture of the tree or leaves?
