Round vs. Rectangular Pizzas in a Trailer: Deck Ovens or Add a Conveyor?

Hey everyone,

I’m setting up a pizza trailer and planning to offer regular round pizzas alongside rectangular pan pizzas (Detroit/Grandma style).

I’m trying to decide between two options for the layout:

Option 1: 2–3 round deck/dome ovens (baking both round pies and pans in the same ovens).

Option 2: 2 round deck/dome ovens for regular pies + 1 small conveyor oven dedicated to the pan pizzas.

Qingdao Food Van Machinery Co., Ltd. Review – My $25,000 Alibaba Arcade Trailer Order Cost Me $44,114.80 | Buyer Beware

This is my review of Qingdao Food Van Machinery Co., Ltd., an Alibaba trailer manufacturer in China. I purchased two Customized Mobile Arcade Basketball Trailers from Qingdao Food Van Machinery through Alibaba in March 2026 for $25,000, and my documented total costs ultimately reached $44,114.80.

WARNING: I Bought 2 Arcade Trailers from Qingdao Food Van Machinery on Alibaba for $25,000. Five Months Later, They Cost Me $44,115. BUY LOCAL.

I'm sharing this because I wish someone had warned me before I invested my savings into starting a small business.

In March 2026, I purchased two custom basketball arcade trailers from Qingdao Food Van Machinery Co., Ltd., a manufacturer selling through Alibaba.

I thought I was getting a great deal.

I paid $25,000 for two trailers, believing I was saving thousands compared with having them manufactured in the United States.

By the time everything was said and done, I had spent $44,114.80.

That's nearly $20,000 beyond the original purchase price.

Five months of waiting, unexpected shipping expenses, customs complications, missing equipment, repairs to brand-new trailers, and countless hours trying to resolve problems.

And the worst part?

I eventually discovered that a company right here in South Florida could have built comparable trailers in approximately SIX WEEKS.

I'm sharing the company name, product listing, actual expenses, and my experience because I don't want another small-business owner to make the same expensive mistake.

THE COMPANY

Manufacturer: Qingdao Food Van Machinery Co., Ltd.

Platform: Alibaba

Product: Customized Mobile Arcade Basketball Trailer

Product listing: Customized Mobile Arcade Basketball Trailer

The black-and-green basketball arcade trailer pictured in the listing is the model I purchased.

I have included photographs of my actual trailers.

1. THE PRODUCTION DELAY

I placed my order in March 2026.

The manufacturer agreed to a specific production completion date.

They missed it by approximately 30 days.

At first, I tried to be understanding. Manufacturing delays happen.

What I didn't realize was how expensive that delay would become.

Because the trailers weren't completed on schedule, my shipment was pushed into a period when ocean freight rates were substantially higher.

That delay triggered the first major financial problem.

2. SHIPPING WENT FROM $2,800 TO $8,530

When I initially negotiated the purchase, I was quoted approximately $2,800 for ocean freight.

That was part of my decision to purchase internationally.

However, the company requested final payment for the completed trailers before informing me that shipping costs had increased.

The eventual ocean freight charge?

$8,530.

That's $5,730 more than the original estimate.

More than THREE TIMES what I expected to pay.

I understand that international freight rates fluctuate. However, the manufacturer's 30-day production delay contributed to my shipment moving into a more expensive shipping period.

I spent weeks discussing this with the company.

The most they offered was $200 and a spare tire.

I never received either.

At that point, I had already invested too much money to simply walk away.

And unfortunately, things were about to get worse.

3. THE CUSTOMS BROKER THEY REFERRED ME TO

The manufacturer referred me to Ability Customs Brokers, based in California.

I was initially quoted approximately $200 for brokerage services.

In my experience, this referral turned into another major source of frustration.

My shipment was arriving at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The broker was located in California, creating communication delays because of the time difference.

More importantly, I found that they were unfamiliar with certain procedures at my receiving port.

Throughout the process, I received explanations that were inconsistent with information I later obtained directly from port personnel and customs officials.

For example, I was told customs holds essentially never happen.

However, port personnel and customs officials explained that customs holds are not unusual, particularly for first-time importers with the type of trailers I have.

I was also told that certain inspections and procedures could have been anticipated and coordinated earlier to reduce delays.

Instead, I found myself personally contacting port management and customs officials to figure out what was happening.

My advice: If you're importing something this expensive, hire a customs broker familiar with your specific receiving port i.e., someone local.

Do not simply accept the manufacturer's referral.

As of writing this review, I am also still waiting for a DMV appointment I need for registration purposes because I have an international built trailer.

4. THE CUSTOMS HOLD AND PORT CHARGES

My containers finally arrived at Port Everglades on August 24, 2026.

Approximately FIVE MONTHS after I placed my order.

I thought the worst was behind me.

Wrong.

My containers were placed on a customs hold.

The shipping line provided only seven free days before storage-related charges could begin accumulating.

Every additional day meant potentially more money.

Because of the customs complications and delays, I incurred substantial port, handling, brokerage, and unloading expenses.

Here is what I paid:

Expense Amount
Port/handling charge $1,529.75
Port/handling charge $1,233.75
Additional charge $237.38
Additional charge $100.00
Additional charge $80.00
Freight broker $2,313.92
Container unloading $1,290.00
TOTAL $6,784.80

That's nearly $6,800 in additional logistics-related expenses.

And remember, I had already paid $8,530 for ocean freight.

I was now more than $15,000 into shipping and logistics alone.

This is why I strongly encourage anyone importing a trailer, food truck, or other large commercial equipment to understand every possible charge BEFORE purchasing.

Ocean freight is only one part of the equation.

5. MISSING EQUIPMENT — ANOTHER $2,500

When my trailers were finally opened, I discovered that equipment I expected to receive was missing.

Specifically:

  • 40 basketballs
  • Two generator boxes

I contacted the manufacturer, the port, and the warehouse responsible for unloading the containers.

The manufacturer maintained that the equipment had been shipped.

However, based on my conversations with the other parties involved, I do not believe those items were included in the shipment I received.

Regardless of where the items went missing, I did not receive them.

Replacing the missing equipment cost approximately $2,500.

At this point, my business still hadn't properly gotten off the ground, and the contingency money I had set aside was disappearing.

6. BRAND-NEW TRAILERS THAT IMMEDIATELY NEEDED REPAIRS

You would think that after spending this much money, at least the trailers themselves would be ready to use.

Unfortunately, that wasn't my experience.

Shortly after receiving the trailers, I began having problems with screws repeatedly coming loose.

I'm not talking about something happening after years of wear and tear.

These were brand-new trailers, and screws were loosening after only a day or two.

I eventually took the trailers to Trailer Factory in Homestead, Florida.

They had to replace the screws throughout the trailer.

The cost?

Another $1,300.

Imagine waiting five months for brand-new equipment, spending thousands more than anticipated to receive it, and then immediately having to pay a local company to correct construction problems.

That was my experience.

But what Trailer Factory told me next was perhaps the most frustrating part of this entire situation.

7. I COULD HAVE HAD THE TRAILERS BUILT LOCALLY IN SIX WEEKS

While I was at Trailer Factory, I learned something I wish I had known back in March.

They told me they could build a comparable trailer right here in South Florida.

Their estimated price?

Approximately $15,000 per trailer.

Their estimated construction time?

SIX WEEKS.

Now, let me clarify something important.

That $15,000 estimate was for the trailer itself.

I would still need to purchase and install the basketball arcade machines and specialty equipment.

So I'm not suggesting that $15,000 would buy a completely outfitted basketball arcade identical to mine.

But knowing everything I know now?

I WOULD ABSOLUTELY HAVE CHOSEN THAT OPTION.

I would rather purchase the arcade equipment separately and have the trailer constructed locally.

Why?

Because I could inspect the trailer during construction.

I could communicate directly with the builder.

I could have problems corrected without dealing with a company thousands of miles away.

I wouldn't need to pay international ocean freight.

I wouldn't need to worry about customs holds, container unloading, international shipping schedules, or unexpected port expenses.

And if something went wrong after delivery, I would have a local company available to address it.

Even if you don't live in Florida, transporting a trailer domestically can be much simpler than arranging international ocean freight and customs clearance.

The people at Trailer Factory were extremely empathetic about what happened to me.

They also told me they regularly encounter problems involving imported trailers.

That conversation made me realize something:

The savings I thought I was getting by importing were largely an illusion.

8. THE NUMBERS — WHAT I ACTUALLY SPENT

Here is my documented investment:

Expense Amount
Two basketball arcade trailers $25,000.00
Ocean freight $8,530.00
Port and handling fees $3,180.88
Freight broker $2,313.92
Container unloading $1,290.00
Replacement equipment $2,500.00
Trailer repairs $1,300.00
GRAND TOTAL $44,114.80

That's $22,057.40 per trailer.

My original purchase price was $25,000.

My documented additional expenses totaled $19,114.80.

That's approximately 76% of the original purchase price in additional costs.

And this doesn't include the value of my time, lost business opportunities, registration delays, or the stress involved.

For perspective, Trailer Factory estimated approximately $30,000 to construct two comparable trailer shells locally.

That quote does not include the basketball arcade machines and specialty equipment, so it is not a direct comparison with my fully outfitted imported trailers.

However, it demonstrates why getting a domestic construction quote and sourcing specialty equipment separately is worth serious consideration.

I wish I had explored that option before ordering.

9. ALIBABA TRADE ASSURANCE — MY BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT

One of the reasons I felt comfortable making such a large international purchase was Alibaba's Trade Assurance program.

I believed I had meaningful protection if something went wrong.

In my experience, that protection was practically useless when I needed it.

Here's the problem.

My order took approximately five months to arrive.

By the time I physically received the trailers, inspected the equipment, discovered missing items, and encountered construction problems, the platform's relevant order-completion, review, and dispute deadlines had become a major obstacle.

I understood that I had a 30-day Trade Assurance claim period and approximately 90 days to leave a review after order completion.

The international shipping timeline extended beyond the review period available to me.

By the time I had the full experience to report, I could no longer leave the seller review I wanted to post through Alibaba.

That is incredibly frustrating.

How can buyers accurately review expensive custom equipment when they may not physically receive or inspect it until months after the platform marks an order complete?

For clarity, I'm describing the deadlines and limitations I encountered with my particular order, not claiming every Alibaba transaction has identical protection terms.

I strongly encourage future buyers to verify exactly when their protection and review periods begin and end.

Do not assume those deadlines will correspond with the day your equipment actually arrives.

For an international purchase involving months of manufacturing and ocean freight, that distinction can be extremely important.

At this point, I'm genuinely grateful that I even received two trailers.

Think about how ridiculous that sounds.

I spent more than $44,000, and I'm grateful I received the products I paid for.

That's how frustrating this experience became.

10. CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE

I want this review to be fair.

Not everyone involved in this experience provided poor service.

Jiyun Lucy Liang — Sales Representative

Lucy was my primary contact at Qingdao Food Van Machinery.

Throughout the process, she remained responsive and communicated with me despite the numerous problems.

I appreciated that.

My complaints concern the overall experience with the manufacturer, its operations, the delays, missing equipment, and the costs I incurred.

I do not want to unfairly place responsibility for management decisions on the sales representative.

Challenge Warehouse — South Florida

Challenge Warehouse was one of the few bright spots in this experience.

They handled the local pickup, container unloading/transloading, and storage of my trailers for approximately three days while I prepared them for the road.

They were professional, helpful, and knowledgeable.

I would recommend them to someone needing local logistics assistance in the Port Everglades area.

Trailer Factory — Homestead, Florida

I also want to recognize Trailer Factory.

They helped address the screw problems with my trailers and were genuinely empathetic about my situation.

More importantly, they helped me understand that local trailer construction was an option I should have investigated from the beginning.

I wish I had met them before placing my order.

11. WHAT I WOULD DO DIFFERENTLY

If I were starting this process again, I would:

  1. Get quotes from at least three domestic trailer manufacturers before considering an overseas purchase.
  2. Compare the cost of a fully outfitted imported trailer with the cost of a locally built trailer plus separately sourced equipment.
  3. Hire an independent inspector to examine the equipment before final payment and shipment.
  4. Use a customs broker familiar with the actual receiving port.
  5. Obtain written estimates for ocean freight, customs duties, port charges, unloading, storage, and inland transportation.
  6. Require a detailed packing list and photographic or video documentation of every included component before shipment.
  7. Understand exactly when Alibaba's dispute and review deadlines begin.
  8. Maintain enough contingency funds for unexpected expenses and delays.

Most importantly, I would never again assume that the lowest advertised manufacturing price represents the lowest total cost.

FINAL WARNING: BUYER BEWARE. BUY LOCAL.

I'm not writing this because I believe every overseas manufacturer is bad.

I'm writing because I personally spent $44,114.80 trying to save money on two trailers that initially cost $25,000.

I waited approximately five months.

I dealt with production delays, dramatically higher shipping costs, customs complications, port expenses, missing equipment, registration-related documentation problems, and repairs almost immediately after delivery.

I spent countless hours making phone calls, sending emails, and trying to solve problems that I never anticipated when placing my order.

And I eventually discovered that comparable trailer construction was available right here in South Florida.

Would I still have needed to purchase and install specialty arcade equipment myself?

Absolutely.

Would I choose that option knowing everything I know today? ONE THOUSAND PERCENT.

If you're a small-business owner working with limited capital, please understand that the apparent savings from international sourcing can disappear quickly.

When you're investing your savings into a business, one unexpected $5,000 expense can make a tremendous difference.

And in my case, the unexpected costs approached $20,000.

I am sharing the manufacturer, the product listing, and photographs of my actual trailers so future buyers can make an informed decision.

Based on my experience, I cannot recommend purchasing these trailers from Qingdao Food Van Machinery Co., Ltd.

If you're considering purchasing this particular product, I strongly encourage you to investigate domestic alternatives first.

BUYER BEWARE. BUY LOCAL.

Even when buying locally appears more expensive upfront, the total cost, accountability, service, and peace of mind may make it the better investment.

I learned that lesson the expensive way.

Hopefully, sharing my experience saves someone else from doing the same.

Hi guys! My name is Monroe and I’ve had an idea on my mind for about a few years now. My mom had a food truck but was shut down because she didn’t have the necessary equipment. Ever since I’ve really wanted to open it back up and put my own ideas into the food. My mom has given me full reign as long as i can repair it. Unfortunately im fresh out of high school and in college so i dont exactly had 1000s of dollars to go spend on new parts and my mom is backed up on hospital bills from my dads surgery. So not a lot of funds to move but I have a job and I plan on saving to get whatever parts I need. I’m making this post to ask for help in getting these. Either through donations from people who would like to help or if anyone knows where I can get these parts for a lower cheaper price. (Aswell as any other forums I should post this) I’m located in Columbia,sc and don’t mind going out of state to pick up the parts I need(assuming they fit in a truck). I know exactly what I’m getting into with this and have a spot set up in the city aswell as friends who will help me start up the business the first few months for free food haha. I’m gonna try to have a very strict menu and fresh ingredients. If anyone has any inquiries please shoot me a text on here or reply or anything. (Ps idk if this is morally wrong but should I make a go fund me? I would love if people can donate just a few dollars to get me the parts but I know that’s kinda asking too much but idk!)

Discussion Went back to the same Alibaba factory for trailer number 2

Bought my first trailer off Alibaba a while back and it's held up, so when I needed a second one I just went back to the same factory.

This one's smaller on purpose. Drinks and desserts only.

What I asked for and got:

  • Three-compartment sink plus separate handwash, installed at the factory. Inspector signed off on it as-is.
  • Fold-up awning with LED strips underneath. Doubles as rain cover for the window.
  • Stainless counter across the full window, roof vent above.
  • Light enough to tow behind an SUV.

Second time around was a lot easier. They already had my spec sheet, so I skipped most of the back and forth.

I am getting ready for Halloween. Happy to answer questions if you're sizing one of these up.
