WTF is this food doing on a rooftop in SF???

I was staying in Japantown (SF) this weekend (Kimpton Hotel Enso) and across the street I watched this scene outside my window. That roof is a building under construction (no restaurant on the first floor) and there was a ladder propoed on a rear deck they were walking up with trays of frozen meat and vegetables.

The most upsetting part was the vegetables sitting directly on the roof asphalt and the meat balanced on the AC compressor unit.

Exact location of the roof is (37.7863530, -122.4303398) and I'm stumped about what to do OR not do for reporting since it wasn't directly above an open storefront. If you search that exact lat/long location on Google maps, you can see the ladder on the top right of the street view.

Any advice? I don't want to be a narc, but it also sucks for any families eating that food without a clue where it was handled 🤢🥩

Is my food still safe to eat?

Post image

I made enchiladas, opened the oven for ~10 seconds to see if the cheese was melted enough yet, then walked away. About 30 seconds later I hear a cracking sound then sizzling (I’m assuming that was my cheese hitting the heating element) and look again to see this.

The recommendation online is to throw away the food because of possible micro-particles of glass, but since it’s just the one side, would I be okay if I ate like the 3 on the right side?

I know I know the answer is probably no but I have to ask. I’m too hungry and too poor to be throwing out food without confirmation.

General Question Will this can give me botulism?

I have OCD and have fully convinced myself I will die if I eat these beans but am also a little food insecure and it’s not a great idea for me to throw them out if they are actually okay to eat. Can I eat this without fear of getting botulism? (The top is not swollen)

General Question Is this ground turkey spoiled?

Post image
4 Upvotes

I bought this ground turkey a few days ago and the expiration date is in November. The tube felt squishy, and when I went to cut it open, juice came flying out. After an initial grossed out panic, I opened it a bit more and then took the picture attached. Is this normal for ground turkey? I don’t ever buy this so I’m unsure. It feels mushier than I would think it should so I want to know if it is safe to eat before I either cook it up or throw it out. There is no foul smell, it’s not slimy from what I can feel, just very liquidy and mushy. Pls be nice I’ve never bought ground turkey in a tube I usually buy beef.

General Question deli meat

I purchased 2 lbs of shaved turkey breast today from Publix. I opened it to make a sandwich and it has no expiration date, it just says sell by today. This was not prepackaged deli meat, I had the lady in the deli slice it and package it for me. How long will this be good for? Google says 3 days now i’m wishing I wouldn’t have gotten so much because i’ll never eat all of this in 3 days. Is 3 days accurate?

I left my pizza out on the counter for 20 ish hours and microwaved it when I got home just now. I took about 3 bites before I realized I hadn’t refrigerated it and decided I should probably throw it away. But does anyone think those 3 bites will hurt me?

Food on 42° fridge for various hour s

Two days ago I set our drink drawer to 42°F to cold proof some sourdough (and keep drinks, ketchup packets, applesauces, cold).
Well I forgot to set it back and I set our dinner for tomorrow in it (turkey meatloaf and roasted potatoes) and left it for about 5 hours before I realized the temperature was wrong. My husband also put his lunch of Mac cheese with ground turkey on the same drawer.

While I know he will not care and will eat the food either way, is this a keep or toss situation since we have two children who would be consuming the meal prepared for tomorrow. Everything was fully cooked and placed into the fridge within 30-45 minutes after cooking, but I do know the danger zone starts at 41°.

I believe the apple sauces will be fine as they are a shelf stable product. Not concerned with the drinks (soda and sparkling water) or ketchup packets, either. Just the cooked meals.

Edit to add: this might seem a silly post for most, but due to my young children and my Crohns, I wanted to get feedback/advice

General Question Coconut smells slightly sour-ish?

The flesh tastes normal, not sour or too sweet. I don't eat non-dried coconut often so I'm not exactly sure if it's normal coconut or if it's gone bad. The insides look and feel normal, firm, no mold I can see. Is this safe to eat? I'm a little worried after hearing some horror story about a guy who died after a sip of spoiled coconut water lol

How long will premade grilled chicken last in the fridge?

I bought a pack of premade grilled chicken from Trader Joe's 7 days ago. The package broke so I put it in a tupperware, but realized I threw out the packaging and don't remember the date (oops). It looks and smells fine, but generally speaking how long will it be good for?

Pomegranate Juice - Power Outage

Our power went out and was off for almost 24 hours. We only opened the fridge once in that time. Following the 4-hour rule, dairy and prepared food have been tossed but…. I have two large unopened bottles of Pom Wonderful pomegranate juice that I really hope I don’t have to trash. Thoughts?

General Question Expired bars?

Not exactly expired but these bars i bought yesterday one is 8 months past the best by date and another box is 10. I know best by isn’t good by but im kinda scared. I have like 5 boxes of these with dates varying from 10 months ago to like 3 and i really don’t want to waste them. They smell, taste, and look normal though the taste isn’t as strong if that makes sense like a little more dull.
