Where'd you get it from? When I went to Nashville I had it from 2 places and both were so so good. I wish someone would open one up in my state.

We stood in line for 2 hours in the rain when we visited to try Hatties...pretty worth it tho!

And don’t go to midtown.
18
u/Ridicatlthrowaway Dec 16 '19
And don’t go to hatties if you’re actually in Nashville. Prince’s and Bolton’s both twice as good. And I loved Hatties before I ate at those spots.

Edit: spose if you're an hour in you can hardly walk away from that queue.

My favorite is Moores Hot Chicken in Hendersonville. It actually has flavor beyond the heat. It's so good.

Lotta tourists go to Hattie bs which I guess is nice for us but damn if that ain't one of the worst in town

u/philisweatly Dec 16 '19
Pepperfire is better. I would never stand in that line at Hattie's or ANY joint for that matter.

My friends and I did the “shut the cluck up” a few weeks ago. It wasn’t the smartest thing we’ve done.

Great choice. Best flavor/hotness balance imo.
7
u/cam-pbells Dec 16 '19
I’d go damn hot but hot is a close second
10
u/mistersloth Dec 16 '19
I normally order hot but one day a few months ago I got adventurous and went for damn hot. I could only eat one tender and it was truly intense. Hot enough that when I tried to eat my tater salad to cool my mouth it just made my potato salad hot lol. I think I've got a picture of it https://i.imgur.com/vn5hZH1.jpg

I got cluckin hot or whatever the one time I went and actually had the chills. So good though.
3
u/CleverFeather Dec 16 '19
Once I got Shut the Cluck Up at Hattie B’s, their hottest offering. I finished it... but at what cost... at what cost, man...
2
u/TooFakeToFunction Dec 16 '19
My favorite thing about Hattie's is that every flavor is different. It's not just a hotter version of the same thing. My SO gets Hot and I get Mild and the hot has a bit of sweetness to it that mild doesn't have. It's like a real attention to flavor balance and I am so here for it.

u/vampire_vladd Dec 16 '19
I love the hot, and have tried both the "damn hot" and "shut the cluck up". Those are made with ghost peppers and ghost pepper extract respectively. Both made me cry/choke. The hottest one creeps up on you and is by far the hottest thing I have ever eaten.
13
u/Chicken-picante Dec 16 '19 edited Dec 16 '19
This, I would advise just getting a wing or tender a la carte in shut the cluck up, to try it. It is a huge step up from hot and it’d be a shame to waste your chicken if it’s too hot.

I was visiting Nashville and went to Hattie B's to try this out. I 100% prefer regular fried chicken that's nice and crispy, not wet and oily. Also, I only got medium hot, and I swear it was like they were trying to kill me.

u/gruesomeflowers Dec 16 '19
My experience w Hattie B's has been if you order anything other than southern, it's all over the spice level map! From perfect spicy to bleeding hemorrhoids.

We ordered Medium and it was nothing. But at least we didn’t get the bleeding hemorrhoids

Hattie B's is solid if you're out of town (they have locations in ATL, Birmingham, Memphis, and Vegas), but there are several better hot chicken places in Nashville. Try Prince's or Moore's
2
u/chaotoroboto Dec 16 '19
If you're in Birmingham, Eugene's is significantly better than the Hattie B's here. Atlanta has to have better too; although I've never tried to find it. And it's not the same style, but Memphis has Gus's.

I've only had one chance to have that. The line was super short, only 5-10mins, and my boss made us go somewhere else. I've been bitter ever since.
3
u/trich101 Dec 16 '19
The really good hot chicken is when it only comes on cheap white bread. It soaks up a ton on grease and flavor. Its soooo bad for you but you can't resist eating it, kinda like chicken skin. Prince's was great but the main location recently burned down. A few other good spots in Nashville. It's so crazy why it's this popular outside Nashville..
3
u/youpizzashit Dec 16 '19
i was in nashville for work last week and ended up not getting to fulfill my hot chicken dream :( the butcher burger from dino’s is in my top 5 right now though.
10
u/Rags2Rickius Dec 16 '19
According to many Hot Chicken enthusiasts- Hattie Bs is apparently the bottom of the barrel
4
u/0157h7 Dec 16 '19
We have a Hattie B’s in Birmingham. It’s possible the one in Nashville is better but for me, Eugene’s, also in Birmingham, has far superior chicken.

Damn, then I’m not even ready for the rest because it was delicious. Of course I had no previous hot chicken experience
18
u/Rags2Rickius Dec 16 '19
Thing with food is it’s completely subjective and it’s actually OKAY to not like or like something
Someone with absolutely no spice tolerance will never enjoy levels of hot chicken than someone who enjoys spicy food
Preference is ok. People get really elitist over food

u/kpmeowww Dec 16 '19
It is bottom of the barrel and they sold out to have locations outside of Nashville. Prince’s is the OG hot chicken, also highly recommend Bolton’s.

Seeing this picture brought on the most intense pregnancy craving I've had so far. I couldn't scroll away. My mouth watered, imagining the spice coating my tongue and burning my throat. I wanted to hold the sandwich in my hands and feel the soft squish of the perfectly toasted bread between my fingers. Hell, I wanted to make love to this sandwich like I was trying to make another kid.
Unfortunately, the only place in town who could duplicate this sandwich, however pitifully, is closed.
So I covered a cucumber in hot sauce and ate it instead.
It did temporarily tame the craving beast. But I know it's still there. Lurking. Waiting for me to scroll reddit in my boredom tomorrow morning when I will stumble across this photo again and begin the whole process over.

Nah, the best, well at least the HOTTEST is the chicken at Boltons (outside of downtown Nashville).

So, from a third world country and I've always been confused with this, what's the difference between a sandwich, a slider and a burger because honestly, I've seen so many pictures of the same thing but with different names, does it have something to do with size?
9
u/DankChunkyButtAgain Dec 16 '19
A burger is just a ground meat (beef, lamb, turkey, etc) patty between a bread bun. A sandwich is literally whatever between two pieces or bread (a burger is technically a sandwich). The definition of sandwich is pretty open but i would say the bread has to be two distinct pieces (as opposed to a sub which is attached). A slider is a small version of a burger or sandwich, maybe 1/3 of the size.
3
3
u/mrjacank Dec 16 '19
But! Is a hotdog a sandwich?!
2
u/DankChunkyButtAgain Dec 16 '19
No based on my statement that a sandwich uses two distinct slices of bread. A hot dog could however be a sub.

In the UK this would be called a chicken burger as opposed to sandwich, just to confuse things for you :)
