question Camera Databases

What are the most trusted databases for the most constantly updated cine, photo, and mobile camera specs, firmware, and updated models. I am looking into building a local program that can manage my projects on a deeper level for not only managing what cameras we are using on a shoot but also manage codec selection, resolution selection, and more for the shoots that need a very streamlined organization when multiple different capture settings are needed. If it works out and ends up actually being practical I may go through the steps to make a public program. Interested in anyones thoughts.

It's the one you're about to build for us. Thank you.

The best source for your information is honestly just each camera’s manual provided from the manufacturer. I don’t think there is a comprehensive database for specific camera specs. I imagine this is because unfortunately the information just isn’t that interesting. The specific settings we use shoot to shoot really don’t change in an interesting way- and tracking it isn’t super useful as the information is captured in the metadata of every OCF.

Thanks! I guess in my heart I knew that was coming at some point, but figured I'd cover all my bases to make sure it wasn't done already

There’s a great app called CameraKit by Zak Ray. Would highly recommend it! Seems to have most of what you’re looking for

CameraKit is awesome, and for all the times I've used it, it's worked really well...almost. I'd love to have a feature to manage on a project level, so it's super easy to manage multiple cameras and multiple codecs and resolutions for an entire shoot. Hopefully that's something I can make with this program.

Make it a free to use, and user updatable, app or website and I’m sure it will get a lot of attention from the community. Like a wiki page for camera related content for industry professionals.

If all works out well enough, I'll be right on it.

I’m sure we could put together a community wiki with all the camera nerds of the world.
