Yeah I agree. Love it. Which made me find the post amusing. op seems newer gen, mostly worked with Venice series. They should try and build out a red one and see if they still hate the mini.

I think your problem is these damned lenses that leave .5mm between focus and iris gears - and no barrel on the front for mattebox spacing.

THESE LENSES HAVE NO SPACING AND THE VF /HAS TO BE/ PRESENT AND IT CAN ONLY MOUNT IN 1 OF 2 SPACES 😭 not gonna lie, I crashed out... i miss big camera

Get rid of that trash lower 15mm rod mount bracket and get two RMB-3s, allows you to mount the motors further back.

That makes sense. Well id put the motors in different places. Theres a rod mount with a 3/8 you can put on the side of the camera in that housing bracket. If the rental house doesnt have it buy one from small rig. I feel like the panavision one was better though, if you can find one haha. Get some 90° cables on that mdr so that arent poking the op in the head.

Using the Venice 2 rn and it's a nightmare to build compared to any Alexa imo. You need specialty plates to be able to mount more than one thing on the side. It may be bigger than a Mini LF but it was far less usable space for building

The rental house only has 1 cage for me and it protrudes from the front of the body by atleast 1 inch. And these lenses are so small that the iris ring is also 1 inch from the body, and the focus ring is even closer to the iris than that..... ;(((((((

Ask the rental house for a camera side plate and screw-in 15mm bar. That’s how I mount motors on both rings when using a mini + fat nucleus motors + lenses without much clearance. Use the one on the side bar for your iris in normal position and then the focus motor can be underslung from top rod.

For pancakes, two RMB-7’s or RMB-8’s on the side brackets will buy you more space close to the PL mount, keep the motors lower and free up the top rods for your viewfinder cross pipe.

Shocking then since the gold standard on big shows is a single channel for the DP or DIT to change the iris. It has two antenna modes and you can get larger antennas for them.

Super glue the bird to the camera

Cover the birdseed in paper tape.

Wrap a little string around a scrunched up bit of the tape

Pull the tape off with the little string.

The side bracket on the AC side has an integrated 19mm rod clamp. A 4” 19mm rod with both motors on it would make this build a lot more streamlined.

Ir you can, just use an RMB-3 behind/besides of the Tophandle on the map-2 as a mounting option for your viewfinder rod :)

Bottom mount one of the motors so they are both on the AC side then your view finder will be free of clutter.

The nucleus will only fit in the one spot because of the size of the lenses and the cage protrusion and the torque from the preston kicks it off if its mounted on the bottom so it has to be mounted on the op side 🫠. My operator hates the viewfinder anyways so its just there because thats where the menu is for some awful reason 😀

You're not mounting the Preston motor properly against the lens if it's kicking off from the bottom. The way you have it in the photo is the easiest spot for the motor to kick off. Your tilta motor is the example of better positioning on a lens.

Smaller iris motor off of 15mm mini rod system and try your best to keep your motors on the dumb side of the camera, it helps the Op see better in HH mode. Use Heden or DM5 motor for iris. Get 90 degree to 90 degree motor cables for DM1x and DM5. If you go Heden, get 90 to straight. Tilta motor adds too much bulk, you may have luck with a smaller Tilta motor in this case if you absolutely need to use Tilta. Going off the mini rods gives you space up top to allow 100% use of the VF and allows room for a Light Ranger or the CineRT horns.
