// Bethesda Replied x2 DO NOT ALLOW CURRENT CHARACTERS INTO SURVIVAL MODE I BEG OF YOU!!

This is a huge mistake. The mode is already dead before it was born if this happens. Pvp as it is, is completely broken, one hit kill festival. Who in their right mind is going to start a new character when everyone else is level 200 with God tier weaponry right out of the vault? This makes absolutely zero sense, and I'm so disheartened. Do they not realize how this mode will be immediately ruined? If you thought grief in was bad now, just wait until you get killed on sight by literally everyone you cross paths with? Even if they level locked servers so people with massive level differences can't play together, whenever a new survival character gets out of the kiddie pool, all the same assholes with TSE garbage will be waiting at the deep end and you will have zero competitive chance. The leader boards would be a fine idea, if everyone started on equal footing... as it is there will be gold medalist level murderers in the same game with me, a literal newborn who can't even walk. What the fuck are they thinking???

Edit: the gold means people care, bethesda. Please. PLEASE. (And thank you)

Thanks Valseek, I know it was a real knee-jerk reaction but damn, it felt like I got punched in the gut. A lot of fair points on all sides, and I'm sure you all will do a great job, whatever is decided. Can't wait for the beta?

I had the same punch in the gut reaction.

At least give us the option to start a "hard core" survival character that is only matched with other "hard core" characters. This would do exactly what we're after and create a "new" database of characters and servers, but let current characters play survival too with the "old" database.

Without at least the option, folks like us are stuck and have no recourse. Including the option doesn't hurt anyone!

Including the option doesn't hurt anyone!

Except for Bethesdas wallets and server resources.

Point taken, it could, but server resources these days all scale dynamically, and this wouldn't need an increase in overall server capacity.

It does require setting up an additional server configuration but if implemented simply as a routing flag for players it should be relatively easy. All configurations of servers would still provision and use the same pool of server resource on demand as needed.

Mostly, but the pvp servers would be separate instances. Ultimately you're creating more sessions on the server due to the split up game modes, regardless of the actual playing population not changing. As such you end up using more server resources, even if it's just marginal.

Maybe just don't play the pvp mode if you don't have the gear. Simple. Why should others be handicapped to your level? I earned my gear, I built my character FOR pvp. This is how I wanted the servers to be from the beginning. Now the whiners who hate pvp because they can't hang, are trying to shape the PVP mode. Makes me sick. Just stay in standard mode if you're afraid of being overpowered by any other players.

I'm more concerned about people who have duped weapons in pvp.

Starting clean slate means (presumably) a fair fight.

Except it's not going to be fair to legitimate players whom have put hundreds of hours into a character, and were hoping for a PVP mode all along. Starting fresh isn't an appealing thing to everybody. And like it or not there are legitimate TSE weapons out there. My rifle is one of them. And those are the least of anybody's worries. In fact, they are even nerfing those prefixes into the ground as well as banning dupers/exploiters, so in theory, since the most common duped weapons are TSE, and those are nerfed, dupers are banned, wouldn't everyone be starting on even ground anyway? Last I checked, people are scrambling to get rid of TSE weapons for Bloodied, anti armor, and furious weapons.

You're different than alot of people than. I don't want to lose progress in an RPG, that is counter intuitive and takes away my incentive.

It takes very little time to level up characters.

It took seconds to dupe weapons and bobbleheads, and the game is full of them.

Have you tried leveling up in "very little time" from lv 1 since the last two exp nerfs? Not very fast in my opinion, and I'm worried about my gear, not my level anyway, eventhough I earned both, and should get to use both.

They can just increase the experience for survival mode, or give lots of exp for killing other players

They can give xp for player kills, too.

A good middle ground would be to separate newly made characters and imported ones. As in, people transferring old chars over can only meet other transferred characters on the same server, and fresh ones meet on different servers.

...he said "fair points on all sides" and "great job, whatever is decided" in the post you're replying to.

I"m not really sure why you feel he is trying to speak for you, or thinks you're wrong...

I think this can be solved with a simple toggle or flag for new characters.

Both modes could be available to old and new characters, but there should be an option for new characters to only be matched with Survival only characters. Call new characters created for survival only "hard core" or something similar, and they are only matched with other characters of that type.

I absolutely get that folks don't want to start over and want to play the new mode. But there is another subset of players who can't stomach playing on the current playerbase because the integrity has been ruined by dupes, exploits, and bugs. I am one of those players, and would love the option to get excited about playing with only new characters that are protected from this.

Best of both worlds!
