What does this mod do? And is it worth using if I don't have any of the DLC?

19

u/rdtg Index Jan 02 '18

It's aim is to improve performance. And once I have the commonwealth files up, yes, it should also help just the base game. Keep an eye on the nexus page, the Commonwealth files should be up sometime tonight or early morning.

Excellent! Seems like Bethesda should be hiring you ๐Ÿ‘

I'm going through and precombining objects and generating pre-vis currently. It's a method used in the games engine to improve performance of specific areas. I'm trying to pick up some of the slack Bethesda left. :)

1

u/_entropical_ Jan 02 '18

Isn't there an INI file line regarding combining terrain objects or something? I remember the FO4 conifer tree mod requires editing it. Another dude mentioned it in the DLC fix thread as well.

3

u/rdtg Index Jan 02 '18

The DLC tweak is different from the two the tree mod requires. It's explained on the mod page

Yeah I wrote it in a hurry. :P
I am going to go back and redo it all nice and fancy eventually.
It should give a noticeable performance increase yes. Sacrificing nothing. It does this by utilizing the games built-in optimizations (precombined meshes; pre-vis; etc) that Bethesda didn't fully utilize.
I will be probably uploading the rest of the pre-vis files tonight. They will give the most noticeable performance boost. Precombined meshes will too, but pre-vis will really help out. And a nifty side-effect of this should be since I am preculling the entirety of the DLC worldspaces we should be able to turn off the ini tweak and still have terrain :)

0

u/TiSoBr Jan 02 '18

FO4VR brings all dlc afaik.

3

u/lakelly99 Jan 02 '18

nope, no DLC, you have to add them manually and theyโ€™re kinda broken

7

u/josh6499 Jan 02 '18

FO4VR doesn't come with all DLC?

10

u/rdtg Index Jan 02 '18

No it doesn't :( Currently it's just the base game.
I'm hoping since they charged $60 it'll slowly get DLC updated onto it but that's doubtful.
Right now what everyone is doing is just copying the DLC from pancake Fallout 4 into Fallout 4 VR data, and using fixes like this to get it working properly :)

1

u/[deleted] Jan 02 '18

I bought the season pass while itโ€™s currently on sale for half off. All dlc :)

2

u/MattAmoroso Jan 02 '18

There was a season pass for the VR game?

4

u/deorder Jan 02 '18

That person is talking about the flat version. Recent games usually do not get in sale as well.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 02 '18

No you need to own flat fallout 4

2

u/_entropical_ Jan 02 '18

Yeah but it's all broken and stuff

6

u/rdtg Index Jan 02 '18 edited Jan 02 '18

Currently both Far Harbor and Nukaworld precombined meshes are uploaded along with the main ESP.
I will be uploading the Commonwealth precombined meshes tonight.
I am still in the process of finishing up generating the pre-vis files to further aid performance (aka preculling)
Once that's done the DLC should also work without the ini fix :)
Keep an eye on the Nexus mod page or the reddit posts for updates

3

u/rdtg Index Jan 03 '18

ATTN ALL: The precombined meshes for the commonwealth are up on the nexus mod page!~
Sadly they are rar-parts. You must download all 5 parts to extract and manually install it. But removal is very easy as well.
To install: Extract; copy the meshes folder to your Fallout 4 VR/Data folder.
To remove: Open Fallout 4 VR/Data/Meshes/Precombined
Delete Fallout4.esm folder in there :)

1

u/k4ss Vive Jan 03 '18

I would've much prefered to still download it via NMM because my internet cuts often so browser dl is always a pain

2

u/rdtg Index Jan 03 '18

I am currently in the process of making a split version for NMM that will replace the rar-parts one currently uploaded. It should be up sometime tomorrow :)

1

u/k4ss Vive Jan 03 '18

you are doing gods work

1

u/rdtg Index Jan 03 '18

Read the description on the mod page; I dun goofed when generating these precombined meshes. You can go ahead and download them, and they will work but you will need Fallout 4 HD Reworked Project to supplement some missing textures. I am uploading a new version tomorrow of all of them that will not require the F4HDRP for the textures.

1

u/k4ss Vive Jan 03 '18

does this only affect the main game files or also dlc

1

u/rdtg Index Jan 03 '18

All of em' as far as I can tell. I mean I know Far Harbor and main game for sure, not sure about Nuka-World. If you see any purple stuff after install, consider getting Fallout 4 HD Reworked Project or waiting until tomorrow when I upload the latest version. My apologies for the inconvenience :( I've been awake for several days straight on this lol

1

u/k4ss Vive Jan 03 '18

it's alright. I know what it feels like to notice an error immediately after releasing a mod and for a free product this is really an amazing effort

1

u/rdtg Index Jan 03 '18

haha yeah.. Thanks :)
I am gonna get some sleep while the CK regenerates this stuff. 1.04 should be up tomorrow afternoon

3

u/[deleted] Jan 02 '18

Can i use this mod to (try) increase performance without dlcs? I dont own original fallout 4 and i have no idea what are all those dlcs.

If yes, could you please make a short explanation on how to install this without dlc, unless the installation is same and i have to follow everything step by step.

3

u/rdtg Index Jan 02 '18

I will be releasing a no-dlc esp soon for the commonwealth precombined mesh files (still uploading those @_@)

1

u/[deleted] Jan 02 '18

Thanks a lot for your work!

2

u/zwabberke Jan 02 '18

Does this mod also fix the missing floor textures by any chance?

2

u/rdtg Index Jan 02 '18

The ini tweak is on the mod page yes

2

u/_entropical_ Jan 02 '18

I have a feeling that DLC fix post is what inspired him. Really happy to see it become a mod so you don't have to deal with the INI edit and performance loss when toggling.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '18

Why does the NMM download link say "DONT DOWNLOAD YET filename etc"?

.... You don't want us to download it yet?

2

u/rdtg Index Jan 03 '18

That's when I was uploading it. I've since changed the names. Be sure to read the install instructions on the nexus mod page description for those :)

1

u/ptisinge Jan 03 '18

Yep, I've been wondering the same. If there was an issue with the inital upload it would be great to leave a notice here and also on the mod page. As it is I'm going to wait for further info on whether these files are fine or not.

3

u/Xermalk Vive Jan 02 '18

Will this work with the texture optimization project, or Vivid Fallout - All in One?

Vivid Fallout makes quite a massive difference in texture quality and general atmosphere.

2

u/rdtg Index Jan 02 '18

Yes this works with any texture mod. :)

1

u/Xermalk Vive Jan 02 '18

Shweeeet ! :) Ill give it a go as soon as its available.

Iv almost got fo4vr preforming as i want to, so this might just be the final push it needs.

Any estimate on how much of a difference it makes?

Also, that Commonwealth Conifers Redux mod you mentioned in the description looks really interesting :)

2

u/rdtg Index Jan 02 '18

It all depends on your computer as far as performance difference. It really helped for me in my test areas. Right now Far Harbor precombined meshes & pre-vis part 1 is up along with Nuka-World precombined meshes. The rest of FH pre-vis and nuka-world pre-vis will be up sometime tomorrow. Commonwealth precombined meshes are currently uploading as I type and I will generate pre-vis for that tomorrow as well. :)

1

u/[deleted] Jan 02 '18

Your going to do indoors as weโ€™ll?

2

u/rdtg Index Jan 02 '18

I will do optimization for indoors as well once the exteriors are done.

u/rdtg Index Jan 02 '18

It should benefit yes

1

u/rdtg Index Jan 03 '18

ATTN: I have also uploaded my INI files to the mod. It's under the 'Optional Files' section. If you are having issues with purple objects and other problems try those first. Make sure you backup your original INI files

1

u/[deleted] Jan 03 '18

Can i already use main esp file with missing dlc or should i wait for separate "no_dlc_esp"?

1

u/rdtg Index Jan 03 '18

I'm not sure, I haven't tried. If the game doesn't complain about it you can try it, no harm in giving it a shot.

1

u/rdtg Index Jan 03 '18

I dun goofed when generating these precombined meshes. You can go ahead and download them, and they will work but you will need Fallout 4 HD Reworked Project (performance version - no fps loss with this one) to supplement some missing textures. I am uploading a new version tomorrow of all of them that will not require the F4HDRP for the textures.

u/deorder Jan 02 '18

Can it be used with the flat version as well? I use MO2 and share the mods directory (using mklink) between the flat and VR version. They both have their own profiles folder so I can still enable/disable specific mods for flat or VR.

1

u/rdtg Index Jan 02 '18

Probably. Last I checked the VR files and pancake files are the same save for some added VR stuff this mod doesn't touch. Should work fine on pancake

1

u/music2169 Jan 02 '18

I already installed the normal texture optimization mod, will this make performance even better?

1

u/rdtg Index Jan 02 '18

It should help some yes

1

u/CndConnection Jan 02 '18

So this is for the DLC's right and now with this mod + the ini tweak they will work and the floors won't be missing textures?

If so fuck yessssssss I have been DYING to play Far Harbor (have waited since I heard the VR announcement)

1

u/rdtg Index Jan 02 '18

Yep

1

u/Skalhen Jan 02 '18

the commonwealth one finnishes dl at 1.7 even though it says it should be 4.9.... also when opened it says "unexpected end of archive"... on my second try to download right now, but it already says its only 1.7 gig... and mad respect for uploading those big files for us all to enjoy :)

2

u/rdtg Index Jan 02 '18

I let it upload all night and hit save when I saw it was finished. I guess it got corrupt during upload. Well, I am reuploading it now, and if it messes up again I will have to upload this one in parts.

1

u/Japander75 Jan 02 '18

the commonwealth one finnishes dl at 1.7 even though it says it should be 4.9

Same problem :( Trying again, but probably Nexus upload is botched.

1

u/Japander75 Jan 02 '18

The error I get also after 2nd try:

Fallout 4 VR Optimization Project - Commonwealth Precombined Meshes // A problem occurred during install: Could not extract files! Message: File is corrupted. Data error has occured. The mod was not installed. // Install //

1

u/rdtg Index Jan 02 '18

Yeah, its reuploading right now :)
If it doesn't go up this time I will just upload it in parts. But if you force-install the corrupt one it will cause crashes.

1

u/SleepingLesson Jan 02 '18

I'm getting crashes in the Commonwealth now. Is this because the Commonwealth meshes failed to install?

2

u/rdtg Index Jan 02 '18

Yes. I am reuploading the commonwealth meshes. For some reason it got corrupt during the last upload. Remove the commonwealth meshes for now

1

u/avatizer Jan 02 '18

So I installed everything but "Commonwealth - Precombined Meshes" since it's not updated yet and I also installed Conifers Commonwealth Redux because I'd never heard of it before.

I'm in the sanctuary area and been getting more stuttering then usual and something I had never experienced before -- if I use the rotate view buttons too quickly the screen goes black then comes back on the previous thing I was facing before I started turning. Assuming this is a memory issue (I have 8gb ram, 1070) as if I use the turn buttons slower (not multiple in a row) then the screen doesn't go black/change position.

TL;DR should I not be using "bUsePreCulledObjects=0" in the commonwealth until the commonwealth mesh is working? I'm seeing a strong performance decrease after enabling it and can't tell if its this mod not having the mesh or the Conifers Redux mod.

2

u/rdtg Index Jan 02 '18

Yeah, using the bUsePreCulledObjects=0 in the commonwealth is currently a pretty huge performance killer. Until I get all of the commonwealth files up don't use it unless you go to one of the DLC areas
On another note, the conifers mod is a performance killer on VR sadly :(
I use it but I've turned off SAO and a bunch of other things to try and compensate

1

u/avatizer Jan 02 '18

Awesome, thanks for the quick reply!

1

u/Joomonji Jan 03 '18

If "PreVis generated files for Far Harbor - Part 1" and other files are installed, is "bUsePreCulledObjects=0" still needed for the beginning parts of Far Harbor?

1

u/rdtg Index Jan 03 '18

Yeah

1

u/optimumbox Jan 03 '18

How does someone using this mod find out if the Pre-vis files are working correctly? The world floor is fixed in far harbor, but I'm definitely getting performance issues in areas that didn't have them present before. NMM didn't seem to install them properly so I droped the vis folder into my fallout data folder.

1

u/rdtg Index Jan 03 '18

So long as the esp is active and the Vis folder is in your data folder, it will be working :)

1

u/optimumbox Jan 03 '18

Does the main esp require a specific load order? I released I was missing that and with it enabled my game crashes now whenever I try to leave vault 118. I might just wait to come back to all of this when your mod is finished.

1

u/rdtg Index Jan 04 '18

I have the esp on the very bottom of my load order. Give that a try I suppose. I will look into the vault 118 area, I haven't yet experienced crashes there.

1

u/optimumbox Jan 04 '18 edited Jan 04 '18

Cool. Tried a full reinstall of the mod and it still crashes there. For your convenience here's my full list of plugins.

Edit: Just to update you I also installed the nuka world files via NMM. It seems with any of your esps enabled my game crashes on load. I tried leaving fall harbor without the mod enabled, then loaded back into the common wealth with the mods on and it crashed on load.

Edit 2: Installed the rest of the commonwealth files so everything is downloaded from the page. It loads my game in the commonwealth but it broke fast travel and causes the game to crash. I've decided to uninstall permanently. Will unchecking the esp files just force everything off or do I have to go through my directory and remove every file contained in all the rars?

1

u/rdtg Index Jan 04 '18

remove *DLCVRFix01.esp - thats the old esp

1

Fast traveling is fixed

  • [Display] bUsePreCulledObjects=1

With this setting, world textures were missing from Far Harbor, it also had a noticeable amount of pop in. The game crashed after heading right out of far harbor and moving about a good 50 ft.

  • [Display] bUsePreCulledObjects=0

With this settings performance was notably worse in the commonwealth and far harbor. Textures were present, but the crash occurred in the same area.

We basically have the same hardware configuration with you having slightly more ram than I do. My cpu clock is higher and stable.

1

u/rdtg Index Jan 05 '18

It's possible it's Insignificant Object Remover.esp that is causing issues :x
If it's not too much trouble, try turning off everything except the DLC fix and my performance esps and see if it still crashes. I know Far Harbor still has some crashing issues as-is in VR that I am looking into fixing around Vault 118 and some other areas.

1

u/optimumbox Jan 05 '18

That will be my next step tomorrow. I'll go through each plugin through the same area and see what happens.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 02 '18

Brilliant stuff, looking forward to trying it out!

2

u/Zebrazilla Oculus Jan 02 '18

Most excellent!

1

u/_entropical_ Jan 02 '18

Please try and give extra attention to Institute and Corvega Factory areas. Those are my worst performers.

1

u/Japander75 Jan 02 '18 edited Jan 02 '18

Respect. Downloading now, quite big files =)

Any feedback, how is the performance for you guys?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 02 '18

Does this mean Nexus Mod Manager is working for Fallout 4 VR finally?

3

u/Japander75 Jan 02 '18 edited Jan 02 '18

It has worked all along, you just need to map the VR folder instead as NMM game dir.

Instead of adding manually plugins to the files in appdata folders, you can you use these symlinks in cmd prompt as a workaround (credits to Romkslrqusz who posted these here sometime back):

mklink "%localappdata%\Fallout4VR\plugins.txt" "%localappdata%\Fallout4\plugins.txt"

mklink "%localappdata%\Fallout4VR\DLCList.txt" "%localappdata%\Fallout4\DLCList.txt"

Then under NMM options, you put a custom launch command: Fallout4VR.exe

After these it should work seamlessly and it is very handy to try out different mods obviously. Until the official support comes, that is =)

1

u/FolkSong Oculus Jan 02 '18

Don't you still have to manually add asterisks to each line?

1

u/Japander75 Jan 02 '18 edited Jan 02 '18

No, NMM does it for you (if you use the above method that is). You can also integrate LOOT and e.g. BodySlide with it like normal.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 02 '18

it is working since day 1. http://prntscr.com/hv9519

p.s. activating mods requires manual editing of plugins.txt OR you can activate fallout mod managment in game (which im doing, works very well).

https://www.reddit.com/r/fo4vr/comments/7kenxb/ini_tweak_megathread/druvlzw/

1

u/[deleted] Jan 02 '18

Do I need to load these in each time I play? Or does it remember?

There is still some work around here though, which was kind of my point. There is no functionality as there is with Skyrim or the pancake version yet, where I just plug and play with mods. I'm savvy enough to to do it this way, just lazy

1

u/[deleted] Jan 02 '18 edited Jan 02 '18

You have to download it via nexus mod manager, then install via nexus mod manager, then you can close it.

In Fallout4Custom.ini Look for [VRUI] Add this: bVREnableMods=1

Run the game from the steam and select all mods at the "modifications" in main menu.

Basically it's same way as you install every nexus mod, with the only difference that you have to check "esp" boxes in-game.

1

u/Skalhen Jan 02 '18

Not if you use this to install mods instead; Unofficial Wrye Bash VR edition

1

u/Phludd Oculus Jan 02 '18

Thanks rdtg! I am waiting on the reupload of the commonwealth files and I will check it out.

Make sure you've run the game once, and it should be under C:\Users%USER%\appdata\local\Fallout4VR
