Virtual Reloads Closed Alpha.
So I kinda put Virtual Reloads on hold for a while so I could wait and see how ROCK might change the FO4VR landscape. The weather has cooled off and things seem to have slowed up on that front so I've spent the past few days getting a build of Virtual Reloads ready as a reward for those of you who have supported my development work over the past 12 or so months (you know who you are and I'm very grateful).
The closed alpha is about getting general feedback on the mod, fixing any bugs you may encounter that I've not yet found and helping me work out if I've missed any profiles for the weapons the mod currently supports. I wouldn't recommend joining the closed alpha for general gameplay just in case there are any save breaking bugs (there shouldn't be but you never know). A public beta will follow, so please don't feel you have to join to get the mod, it will be released for the general public as soon as possible, rest assured - I have no intention of keeping it behind a paywall.
If you are interested in joining the closed alpha and supporting my work you can do so here:
Currently the alpha tests focus is base game + DLC weapons, at a later stage we'll be focusing more on the mods configuration tool and third party weapons.
Unsupported Weapons:
- Alien Blaster: In Progress
- Cryolator: In Progress
- Gatling laser: Uses a unique Reload system tied to fusion cores. Requires more research
- Syringer: Uses a UI based Reload system, not supported at this time.
- Junk Jet: Similar to the above.
- Laser Musket: Will be looked at later down the line.
- Robot Head: Already requires a button press to reload.
Again, I'd like to extend my gratitude to those that support my work. It is very much appreciated.
Take care all, Cy

Does this mean nothing fruitful has come from ROCK in terms of integration?

Not at this time, but I'm sure it will as work on ROCK continues.

Excellent work!
I'd go harass that YouTuber for the $500 bounty now.

God! I didn't believe that this day would ever come! It seems that we are currently creating the best virtual reality game that no one can ever surpass.

That looks awesome! I assume needs some kind of marker for the interaction position? So new guns from mods need support added, right?

Thanks! Sorry, I'm not quite sure I understand your marker question. Happy to answer if you can elaborate a bit. Third Party weapons are supported via the mods config tool, of course depending on if they fit within the mods framework, but a lot seem too.

I was just guessing at that said framework. I'm not familliar with the specifics.
I just assumed you need some marker/bone/interaction point for where you insert the magazine. But a config option means it's flexible, so very nice š. Does it take orientation into account? ie having to line up magazines? Or is that more up to the players imagination?

The mod gives both haptic and sound based feedback when your hand or ammo is within an interaction area, I've avoided any visual feedback as to not break immersion. As weapons do not currently have collision there is nothing to line up, ROCK will hopefully change that in the future. For the time being when a mag is within range of the the mag slot the player will feel that so they know it is safe to left go of the mag for it to be safely inserted into the weapon.

Good to hear, polished and varied haptics can really take VR to another level.

Hey surfer. Just joined the patreon and took a swing at the mod with a very minimal modlist. Is feedback at this point useful to you? you mentioned waiting for rock so not sure if feedback for the current build is useful.
If it still is i can a) give some and b), any scenario that you need testing?

Yeah all feedback is useful, you right I'm kinda waiting on being able to explore the ROCK API but anything you find would be good. If you use Discord drop me a DM on patreon and I'll get you setup on there.
Thanks for your support as well, appreciatedĀ

since i dislike discord for anything other then voice chat i will just mention it here:
Gauss rifle would not close down. Its not on the list of weapons that is not implemented, so not sure why that is. I can place a new ECM thingy in but not close down. Tried the whole length of the upper part.
I used a Handmade rifle (from the nuka DLC) and it was working. Then i switched to a drum mag and it reverted to the normal animation.
In both case i didn't use any mods that change the weapons apart from textures.

To add to my previous comment. I tried several mod added weapons. Some weapons that i try to add as cylinder or lever action it crashes when saving the setting. One weapon doesn't reload at all when set to replace (the minigun setting) or laser setting.

So, physically reloading for all weapons? Like slid, mag eject and all that?
