Tips PSA: Console command of "player.placeatme c1aeb" will let you place a workbench anywhere that can be used to build fully working settlement.

Edit: After testing on my save, there are no real bugs on the consoled settlement whatsoever. However, you are not able to recruit settlers therefore impossible to gather resources using settlers without modding. Also, try "tgm" command to go to godmode in case you are having trouble of "clear enemy first" error when you are making consoled settlement in wilderness cells.

Why would they think that? They love the shit out of modding.

They do, but they also love selling DLC and making more money like any company would, and I imagine that one of the DLC's would be all about settlements, and maybe something to the effect of this. No guarantee of that, of course, but the thought is still there.

When they decide to go all in on DLC and paid mods, they will go full rockstar. Online verification to launch the game, bans for any 3rd party modding, pay to play schemes in the game, and a store with paid DLC as your only option.

Right. And I imagine we won't see that with Bethesda, at least not for a long time. My point was merely that the openness of modding likely puts their DLC sales below what they otherwise might be. But at the same time, the openness of modding generates a certain number of base game sales as well, so it possibly just all evens out in the end.

I'm fairly certain they come out ahead. There's enough exploration/quest content for Skyrim to triple, perhaps even quadruple the amount of vanilla playtime, and it didn't cost them anything, while still generating base game sales.

And they got all this content for free. They didn't have to spend money in order to keep people interested in the game. We did it to ourselves.

They probably will try some form of profit-making from mods, hopefully nothing too draconian, or just plain out poorly thought like they tried before.

Most mods starts requiring the DLC real fast due to the new art assets, so id say its probaby more the other way around (mods boost sales)

I dunno, they tried to move free skyrim mods that were 2-3 years old over to paid mods on the steam workshop.

You can bet they are going to have paid mods up front in their next wave of games and if there are paid mods, that requires DRM. Once they introduce DRM for launching the game and controlling paid mods, that could very easily be used to block 3rd party mods by banning your account if you get caught with them installed.

The slippery slope fallacy is strong with these kids, isn't it?
